We will be encouraging general public car parking on the horseshoe part of yarra bend rd. Interesting cars that don't quite make the cut for the grass will hopefully park on the entry rd to deep rock picnic area which I think is called deep rock rd but is unmarked on these maps.
  2. Membership has its benefits :) Could you PM me who it was.. might help us with some decisions we need to make about trophy winners in a few weeks.
  3. Thanks for all the thoughts people! I too reckon 5R would be the go. Save a fair bit of mucking around as the 18R is moderately different. I think there is a brake conversion early Crown guys do using early Hiace discs, we will have to look at that if we go down the "more power" route.
  4. Hi Drew I will send you a PM re meat.. that would be awesome. re the standard of cars - we are looking for cars that are show n shine quality generally speaking. We have asked a few cars along that might not meet that criteria if they meet a particular need on the day - eg a couple of club race cars and rally cars - but generally speaking, we want the best standard of cars we can get on the grass.. Bring the KE15 along regardless, we are hoping that we are oversubscribed to some extent and that the car park attached to the ground becomes a secondary show with just as many cool cars in it, so either way we would love to see it. I am expecting we have more than our 120 cars turn up, but not sure how many exactly. Cheers Adam
  5. Hi folks Decided it was high time I posted a thread of the little Tiara that has been living with me since earlier this year. Story goes that my brother is a bit of a car nut like me, and when I sent him a link for this on ebay, he fell in love and went hammer and tong to win it. Win it he did, and then asked me to go collect it for him since he lives in Sydney and it lived in Melbourne, just like me. It had a few months rego left on it which was handy, so I grabbed it, assured that nothing was wrong with it for a roady, and off I toddled. Here are some pics from the ad. G Complete with relatively gutless 'R' engine (note no numbers in front of that), 3 speed column shift, and drums all round. The drive home highlighted the brakes as not being flash, it didn't like cruising at more than about 90km/h and it appeared to drink like a fish, fuel that is. Deciding I had more than enough on my plate than to try and sort it out along with the rest of my fleet, so I dropped it off at my local old school Toyota mechanic and gave him the brief to make it ready for roadworthy and go right over the brakes. He faffed about a lot, but 6 weeks later he had all the wheel cylinders resleeved, new tyres (bye bye cool whitewalls - will put new ones on after RWC) and had sadly raised the ride height 4 inches to make it legal. The lowering blocks in the back were massive! He had also given it a tune of sorts, done the valve clearances and cleaned up a few oil leaks. This is how she looked when I picked her up There were still a few things left to do for roadworthy. Fix the steering wheel, which was massively cracked all over the place, and fix a couple of tiny spots of rust in the floor and replace the front indicators lenses. The first one was easy surprisingly as I found a guy who had repro ones on the shelf. Those last two have taken ages to sort out as I have been busy doing other shit. The steering wheel was a challenge to fix on minimal bucks. I could have gone the pearlcraft resto option, but neither my brother or I really like them. So i decided to keep an eye out for a replacement. It's a bit difficult to bang another wheel on, as the indicator mechanism is part of the horn ring - you push the ring to the right or left to indicate your intentions. Its cool, but makes it hard to find a replacement. Fortunately I worked out that early RT40 Coronas and early Crowns had a similar style mechanism, and thanks to the good hunting efforts of Dave we got one (after just missing another at the wreckers the day before). Slightly different dish, and in black, and with the corona logo, but not cracked and will get us the roadworthy. Thanks Dave! Last to do is the floor welding, which will hopefully be done this week or next. I ripped the interior out so it doesn't catch fire in the welding, and have taken the opportunity to drop it off at the trimmers. Its going back to the 60's, with some wine red vinyl replacing the apricot velour of the 80's. Sadly I think I am doing all this work for someone else's enjoyment. My brother has lost a great deal of enthusiasm for the project, particularly since he has got engaged and needs cash for a wedding. Hopefully when its all back together and roadworthy he may fall in love again, particularly once the interior is done and I dump it back on its ass again and whitewall the shit out of it! If he does sell it I will try to hold on to it.. though I will then be sorely tempted to replace the engine/gearbox combo with something that is a bit more practical. Would be great with a 4AGE in it I reckon, but would spoil the character I suspect. Any suggestions? Here is a more recent pic from its appearance at September Donuts
  6. Do your dog a favour and train it to not chase cars, or tie it up when you are pulling stunts like that in the back yard. Be pretty sad to hurt it because you wanted to pull a skid in your back yard no?
  7. it appeared there through the powers of the force...
  8. original with a 4 speed...farken two speed toyoglide is hard work in the cut and thrust of modern traffic!
  9. News just in that I also forgot about. We are in the front room of the restaurant, rather than our usual meeting spot. Still buy drinks and food at the bar.
  10. Oh I forgot to post a reminder... Club meeting tonight. No boring guest speakers tonight!!!!! Unless you count Frank ;)
  11. Planning is coming along nicely for Classic Japan, hope everyone is out with the polish getting their cars ready. It looks like we are going to have a massive turn out of cars which is great. Please bear in mind that we only have space for 120 cars on show on the grass, so we really are looking for top quality cars for this event. One other thing to note is that once the cars are in on the grass at 9am, there is to be no movement of them until 1pm. That is a condition of our use of the ground. So if you want to be in, you are in for the full 4 hours. In other news, we now have support from Shannons for the event, so thanks to them, and Chroma Canvas will be there taking photos on the day and are offering a special prize on the day. If you have any questions about the event, please email me - [email protected] or send me a PM
  12. Spotted white KE10 heading towards Eltham yesterday.. red interior.. original plates.. hubbies. Looked good. Wonder if same block Evan saw? Also spotted Sonja in hers.. looking mighty fine with the altitude drop and wheels :0
  13. Gave the DeTomato a thrashing at Sandown yesterday at the Cup Day Sprint. I replaced the front rotors after Winton, putting on some RDA slotted ones to get a little extra bite, and stuck with the same Project Mu pads, which continued to be awesome. Other than a wash, that was all the preparation she got before going to Sandown. It was a good day, I played with the front shocks, stiffening them up each session, and seeing an improvement in my time each session. Ultimately I bettered the best time I had done in the car by 2.5 seconds at Sandown, doing a 1.39.62. It was second in class, "pipped" by Pete in his green KE35 by a second in the last session. Here is some in-car video - I have hit fast forward on all the bits where I am by myself which aren't so interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10uJhCU3F_Q And a photo in the paddock
  14. Bueller.... Bueller.... anyone? Bueller.... Well the Celica has had a 5 minute detail and we are all ready for tomorrow. Perhaps we will see someone at the BP tomorrow! If not.. you missed out on a good day ;)
  15. carbonboy we could certainly use a hand between 8am and 9am directing cars in to the park :)
  16. www.otomoto.com.au is just one of many good suppliers of them
  17. Is this a manifold for a k engine? http://www.redlineauto.com.au/products/product/12-3062?category=BFLXHVLE& A bit more of a google says yes... so you can buy them new if you are so inclined

Its probably too early for most of you blokes ;) Was thinking we can cruise down there, meet point BP Little River (Avalon) at 9am. 19. No donuts... sausages instead!
  20. Just a note that since this is being held on the traditional "Donuts" weekend (third Sunday of the month), this event will take the place of Donuts.
  21. Not a lot of people today, but still good talking sh*t out in the sun, and great to see a few new faces as well Some pics here https://picasaweb.google.com/adamlaws1974/CarsCoffeeDonutsOctober2011?authuser=0&feat=directlink Didn't quite manage to get every one's car sorry.. I seemed to get distracted
  22. If any one is in the Eltham-ish area we usually meet 7.15ish for breakfast at Maccas before driving over to the meet point...
  23. Good thinking parrot.. I will have to measure my arms and see how they compare to the other Toyota ones that can be swapped in.
  24. Been a while since I updated this here.. so its a few updates in one again! Took her to TCCAV's dyno day and that stressed me out... Here is my dyno sheet ...massively lean. So much so I was stressing about getting it fixed so i could take it to Sydney on the folllowing weekend for Toyotafest. Shhheeeeitttttt! However by the middle of the week my panic had subsided.. haven't quite got to some of the little things I wanted to do before Toyotafest since I have been worrying about getting the mixtures right, but I had the lean issue sorted. We put a bung in the exhaust and have been running an o2 sensor for the last day or so and playing with jetting. Lean-ness was an issue but perhaps not as bad as they dyno suggested. I have ended up with 145 mains, 160 airs and it now pulls hard right through the rev range to 7000rpm, which is a nice change and kinda fun. AFR is abotu 14 while it is doing this, so could probably go a little richer still according to my old school carby guru, but I am going to leave it alone now for the trip to Sydney. Phewwwww... that is the sound of my sigh of relief! and... Update after the Melbourne - Toyotafest - South Coast NSW - Lakes Entrance - Melbourne road trip! Car performed very well across the whole week of my road trip. Temperature gauge was not as stable as I would have liked. Not entirely sure why it creeps up on the way up long hills on the freeway, but it quickly comes back down so I don't think its too significant. I managed to break the terminal off the coolant temp sender while I was fiddling, and couldn't for the life of me find one in a parts shop in Sydney on the long weekend. I did find one in a tiny parts shop in Ulladulla.. who would have thought! Some photos of the journey: Here it is with Matt's KE30 at our meet point for our drive up I got lots of good feedback at Toyotafest, here it is with Roscos RA65 on display under the TCCAV banner At Ulladulla having possibly the best fish and chips ever Here it is at an old favourite of mine from my childhood.. Lake Conjola Great view from the Merimbula Pub Eden Fishing Boats By Mallacootta we had collected a fair bit of road grime! And this is home again So things I learned on the trip.. 1. don't mess with old sensors as it will just bite you on the bum 2. The "Grand Pacific Drive" isn't that grand in places.. seriously... does a drive through northern suburbs and industrials estates of Wollongong count as "Grand"?! 3. A suspension set up that works well on Victorian roads doesn't work so well on NSW roads.. lots more crashing through potholes and being jolted about.. doesn't happen on the Vic roads. That's about it.. other than I no longer have any synchro on third gear.. I am debating whether I grab another second hand gearbox, or whip this one out and rebuild. I am thinking option b.. but option a sounds easier! I also reckon she needs some camber.. I don't want to go to the extremes of putting cusco solid camber tops in.. so am thinking some k-mac ones.. but would love to hear people's thoughts on them first. Any one used them?
