  1. Oh, I'm particularly impressed with the inverted flare on the back wheel arch. Niiiice :2thumbs: Careful you trendsetter you. :laff:
  2. Me too. Last time I went to Toyota for parts I was after a temperature sensor for the 4 speed auto in my AE82 (It stops the gearbox from using 4th until the gearbox/engine is up to temp). Yes, they could get it, ex Japan, and that will be $740.00. WTF, I don't want the whole bloody gearbox, just a temp sensor. To hell with that!. Imagine my surprise at a cheap part from Toyota. STILL chuffed...
  3. 2nd on the Hi-Lux. My old man has had a few of them now. Brilliant. A mate of mine has a petrol Navara, and it's a pretty good gadget too. It's got just over 500thousand kays on it and still going strong. Not too sure about the Subaru, I've always liked the Liberty wagons, my boss has a sweet one. But apparently it goes through a bit of juice. And it's comment I've heard before about the Subaru flat 4, bit thirsty.
  4. I had a win today. It started off with the loss of the CS-X badge on the hatch of my 82. Got to work and noticed the badge gone. Bugger. Looked on fleabay, plenty of expensive Toyota badges but no CS-X badges. Went to the wreckers and could only find one busted up, faded thing. Not worth saving. So I went to Toyota just for laughs. Scuse me mate, do you have a CS-X badge for the hatch lid on a 87 AE82. (I was expecting him to say "a WHAT!") "Yes, we have them in stock". :blinks: Bulls**t, REALLY?!, fantastic, how many hundreds of dollars do you need for one of those?, I ask. "$6.45" Your F**kin with me!. Did you read that right, did you miss a zero there somewhere?. "Nah mate, $6.45". I asked him to repeat that twice more before he ordered me the badge. I must of come off as some complete whack job, "Dah, how much was that again mista". I didn't think they'd still have one, let alone for $6.45!. Chuffed...
  5. Have a look at a website, streetcommodores.com . Good site, they have a forum there as well. They also have Tech tips section and what you can do yourself to your VT. A good mod is to remove the plastic sleeve between the throttle body and intake manifold. It requires nothing more than a reset of the cars ECU after, and gives the Buick/Ecotec V6 MUCH MUCH better throttle response. There is a step by step guide how to do this on the site (I've done it to a mates Ecotec VS, so easy and woohoo, what a difference). Just remember, it doesn't give you any more power, just better throttle response.
  6. Yep LJ Torrie for the win.
  7. Great Wall. To keep the rabbits out ?. I would also have to agree with OrangeLJ. VR, VS, VT, VX V6 Commodore. Sedan & wags would be in your price range (ute's are overpriced). Cheap to run and repair. Love long distance cruises. And you'd be surprised how economical the V6's are on a highway run.
  8. Oh boy do I have problems when it comes to cars. Sending a 74 RX4 on a truck to Sydney to a particular rotary sepcialist, to have the engine rebuilt/modified, then sent back to Darwin. Having that engine last 3 months then being expected to send it back to Sydney for warrantee. :bash: Cost of putting a Holden Calibra motor (2.0l twin cam turbo) into a JD Holden Camira (to stunning effect! :laff: ) and the cost of constantly replacing driveshafts. Cost of putting a worked 5.0 Holden V8 into an 81 Cressida. Cressida $2500. 308 V8 = $3000. Cost of engineers, certificates and making it fit = $25000. :blinks: A dodgy car salesman who wouldn't do a deal on a VX Clubsport. Offended and pissed off I went across the road to the Brock Shop and spent $30grand doing my VS up. Made sure the salesman was aware too. :doublebird: And my favorite, my AE82. Engine was a bit smokey so I thought a refresh was in order. Reco the motor, carby rebuild (AGAIN!!)new A/C, front and rear struts, other bits and bobs, total $8grand. On a two and a half grand car!. It better last another 25 years. This is getting expensive.
  9. Great topic. And I'm with Stu, 356 is just the best and at the top of my list. Others I like... Love is a Karmann Ghia (cheap mans 356!). Convertable or hard top, it's all good. In 1969 this was a good looking car, still is. The Mazda 1500. This is Japan doing Italian style, but reliable. This is my bias showing. I just love the shape of the RX4. The wrap around dash, roof mounted centre console with warning lights, inside and out, my favorite.
  10. 4ag makes better music at 7500rpm. 4ag for the win...
  11. It's a 97 VS.
  12. Had a couple of teenagers a few weeks ago show interest in my Clubby at the local servo. I was happy to discuss a few bits about it but, didn't give too much away. One got all cranky cause I wouldn't open the bonnet. He asked me if I'd consider selling it. I said no. If I gave him my address he'd come around with his dad and discuss a deal if I changed my mind. Honestly!. I'm not as stupid as you look. Sometimes I just don't want to open the bonnet and show every T D or H what it's got. Particularly if I don't like the look of you. Yes, I'm putting you into a stereotype - TOUGH S**T!. I wouldn't worry to much. F**K EM!. To hell with ettiquette, sometimes you just have to trust your gut feeling.
  13. Tis the season for it. Mine's playing the same game. After I've been driving and stop somewhere, get back in, insert key and NOTHING. Although I have power (windows, radio, warning lights on dash), there's just no response from the starter. Mine's got fairly new starter in it (18 months), so I don't think that's the issue. After 30 to 60 seconds of trying to start it, it will. Seems odd that it's a heat thing too. First start from cold is fine. It doesn't happen all the time, some days are better than others. I've tried the lock and unlock the car ritual like you but, for me that doesn't make a difference. Can't say about the idle, mine ALWAYS idles rough, bloody big cam :laff: Like Irokin said, sounds like an immobiliser issue. Mine being a HSV and having 2 immobilisers, just kill me and take my wallet... I'm going to see a mechanic mate next week, see what he thinks, I'll let you know.
  14. Very nice. Bit of a fan of the VK's. I've had 2. An EFI 202 and an ex Alice Springs cop car with HDT fiddled 5.0. Much of a hassle to get the LS1 in there?. I think I've seen that number plate somewhere, has Dor1E been in Street Commodores ?.
  15. Credit where it's due. Well done. It's kinda nice to see the "powers that be" in VIC are interested in giving someone a pat on the back for being responsible (well for not getting caught anyway :P ). Just check your wallet is still in your back pocket after that pat on the back...
  16. Same happened to me a few years ago in Brisbane. I owned at the time a 100kw AE82. At a set of traffic lights I heard a douch bag in a BMW Z4 roadster yell out "Corolla's are SH*T!". Then he started revvin up the BM, so I took the bait. And promptly sh*t all over his Z4. By a good car lenth. At the next set of traffic lights I smugly hung out the window and told this idiot my car cost $1500, and asked, "how much did that sh*tbox cost?". He didn't look at me so, I guess he didn't hear me...
  17. Moan... Conspiracy theory's. I've seen this video, and, I've seen another that picks apart this video and proves it as pure propaganda. I just comes down to what the individual wants to believe.
  18. 40kph over, hmmm. Accidently speeding is 5 to 10 over, maybe 15. But 40!. OK, OK, I wont lecture (as much as I want to!). I've heard of summonds taking up to 8 weeks to arrive, depending on the backlog. Tickets, generally 2 weeks sometimes 3. Like Spencer said, you might be lucky. If so, don't buy a lotto ticket, you've used up all your luck.
  19. ^^^ Too funny. Pissed moose. That was me last week end!!!.
  20. As much as I love my friend, she really pushes my buttons at times. For the last 3 years I've managed to stay clear of her car. I've not been in it, don't want to be seen in it. I make her park it infront of the neighbours house when she comes to visit. She is currently holidaying OS and has trusted me with looking after her "baby". It's at the back of the house with a car cover over it (don't want the neighbours to see and get the wrong idea!). OK, it's not my thing. But for a chicks car she love's it, and the looks, thumbs up and smiles this thing generates. Priceless. When my friend bought this thing 4 years ago, it was a rusted out Yellow S**T box. She did this all by herself.
  21. Agree, a tourist staying at my hotel was charged $50 for a trip from the Airport to the hotel. At most this is a $30 fare in heavy traffic. Person was smart enough to get a receipt. I got $25 back and a free return fare to the airport for the guest. 90% are hard working enough, and it's a crap job. Particularly dangerous is picking up the agro drunks on a Friday/Saturday night. But like all professions, there's shonkies everywhere.

  23. http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=jaguar+jet+powered+car&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=827&tbm=isch&tbnid=P6A5fZCfPfKqsM:&imgrefurl=http://wallpapers-diq.com/wp/17__Jaguar_C-X75_Jet-Powered_Supercar_2010.html&docid=WVOic2os3c1NwM&w=1920&h=1200&ei=qoFOTp_sKI7jmAW209TnBg&zoom=1 http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=jaguar+jet+powered+car&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1280&bih=827&tbm=isch&tbnid=JRe1pA2X7C5wCM:&imgrefurl=http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx%253Fcp-documentid%253D1164254&docid=k39z0tR_tvqDKM&w=425&h=255&ei=P7lOTsm8C-jXmAWj4ODhBg&zoom=1 Have a look at what Jaguar are doing with their C-X75. It was initially a concept but Jag reckon their going to build it. 2 x tiny turbine engines (that run on duck farts) powering electric motors. The Chrysler turbine car was interesting, so were the "brakes" apparently, drums trying to haul up a HEAVY Chrysler with a jet engine (no engine braking), it took a while for the jet engine to wind down enough for the brakes to have any effect. Yikes!.
  24. With incresing emission laws (particularly Europe, and Aust blindly following) diesels are on the way out. How Mazda are going to clean up a rotary to run on diesel is a bit of a head scratcher. Considering how dirty they are on regular fuel. But, they are persisting with the rotary because it is a very flexable engine regarding what fuel it will run on.
  25. Quite interesting Honda did this 36 years ago. Sounds like what Mazda are now doing with their "SkyG" petrol and "SkyD" diesel engines. Huge compression on the petrol engine (around 14 or 15:1), and it's an NA engine too. From what I've read it's similar principle. Big benifits in fuel consumption and emmissions. Their achiving fuel comsumption numbers similar to hybrids and the (new trend) tiny turbo 4's. No kidding, their working on a way to adapt this tech to the rotary engine to keep it viable. Including adapting it to run on diesel (true).
