I like the way you think. I recently spent $4000 on my 82, which is how much I paid for it 3 years ago. Friends and family said I was mad spending that much on it and I would never get that money back. If I'd spent $20G on a new car I wasn't going to get that back either. :hmm:

Not really. It's around the 300 - 310 hp at the rears (on run in tune it made 300rwhp, and it's had more mods done since then). I think it's more to do with how much torque it put's out, that figure I don't know, clearly more than the TH700 can handle.

I can confirm what Trev is saying. And he's spot on the money. I replaced the A/C in my AE82 about 12 months ago. Total cost was just over $1200. It was converted to R134A refrigerant. I got a genuine compressor for about $700 (there are cheaper aftermarket ones available, I think they start about $550) the rest was labor, various fittings, cleaning out the system. Well worth it. My A/C system gets down to 2 degrees before switching off. Makes driving interesting when the windows are frosted over.

Yeah thought about TH350 or 400. But going to stick with the TH700. I use it on the highway a bit and I need an O/D. Just going to ease up on the concrete clog or learn to rebuild auto's every 30 thousand kays (more likely).

WGMG - Bloody Commodores and their glass gearboxes (Auto 4L60E). Oh well, there goes another $3G :sob: Like I didn't have anything better to spend that on...

An Airline With A Sense Of Humor
clubby2084 replied to clubby2084's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Yeah, I agree about the announcements. They've re-hashed a couple of oldies there I think. I know attendants who work for both Qantas (and Ansett for those who remember it). There's a couple in there I've heard before. An oldie was when greeting a flight attendant, say "Hi Jack". In today's climate, this is a major no-no. You will not be allowed on, if not dragged of to Guantanamo. -
Looks like we're both right. Up to current gen models use nickel metal. The new plug in hybrid used Lithium Ion.
-
I couldn't agree more beerhead. Although I am amazed at vehicles like the Prius (lets be honest it is clever), has anyone who ever bought a Prius ever seen a Lithium mine?. The amount of fuel and resources used to extract Lithium, from the mine, to shipping, to processing, to production in batteries is horrendous. And then what do you do with a toxic battery once it's dead ?. Ah hybrids, they just keep on giving...

Have a great day Ben. Happy Birthday.

I got the same crap from morons around me !. I tell em - because. A. It's cheaper than buying another car. B. My Corolla will last ANOTHER 24 years (their new S--tbox wont). C. I recycle. Better for the environment. D. CAUSE I CAN. I also get the same crap about my Clubsport as well. Pretty much the same answers there too.

Whats the chrome badge in the center ?. Looks like an Autotecnica symbol. Got a clearer pic of the center ?.

I'm not entirely up to speed with Ford engines, but, I think putting a 351 into a KE20 might be a bit of a hassle. Mainly due to the physical size of the 351. I think the 351, either Windsor or Cleveland are 90 degree V8's. To get one in your engine bay you may have to modify the strut towers (at the very least). Get a tape measure and see if you have the clearance. I'm sure Ford do a 60 degree V8 of some description. Although I'm not a Ford person, I will freely admit Ford V8 engines have that great V8 noise missing in new GM engines. There is a bloke on this site who has a KE20 with a LS1 in it (Johnno115). And it is registered. So I guess anything is possible. Have a look in Engine Conversions to find his thread. Maybe even send him a message about engineers and any tips?.

I need some help good people. My car has been left out in the elements and rain has stained the glass with spots (baked on by Darwin sun). Against black tinted windows it's very obvious and looks terrible. Window cleaner wont touch it. I've tried car polish, both cream and cleaner compounds. Polish kinda works but it's bloody hard work... There's got to be an easier way. Any suggestions, what have you used ?.

Kulula is a low cost airline in South Africa that doesn't take itself too seriously. Check out their new livery. And have a read about their customer relations. What a pity they don't fly internationally. We should support them if only for their humor. Kulula is an Airline with it's Head Office in Johannesburg Kulula airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight "safety lecture" and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported. 1. On a Kulula flight there is no allocated seating, you just sit where you want. Passengers were apparently having a hard time choosing, then a flight attendant announced, "People, people we are not picking out furniture here, find a seat and get in it !". 2.On another flight with a very senior flight attendant crew, the pilot said "Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached our cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights". "This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants". 3. On landing the stewardess said, "Please be sure to take all your belongings with you, If you are going to leave anything, please make sure it's something we'd like to have". 4. "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane" 5. "Thank you for flying Kulula. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride". 6. As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Durban Airport, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!" 7. After a particularly rough landing during thunder storms in Karoo, a flight attendant announced, "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure a hell everything has shifted". 8. "In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with more than one small child, pick your favorite". 9. From the pilot during his welcome message "Kulula Airlines is pleased to announce that we have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight ". 10.Another flight attendants comment on a less than perfect landing, "we ask you to please remain seated while Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal". 11. Heard on a Kulula flight " Ladies and Gentlemen, if you wish to smoke, the smoking section on this airplane is on the wing.. If you can light em, you can smoke em".

As an apprentice I was asked to get some "backdoor grease". And stripped paint. I once told an apprentice that using toothpaste as lube while masturbating was an unbelievable experience. Sure is.... :hmm: He wouldn't talk to me for weeks.

I've had a far too many cars over the years. Some of my favorites. In the late 80s I had a 1974 RX4 with BB 12a. ( my first car and the one I still miss the most ) 76 Chrysler Galant with Mitsubishi Starion engine (2.0 turbo). None of my mates in their Gemini's or 1600's had a chance. 84 Holden Camira modified with Calibra twin cam 2.0lt engine. Had some go in it. Was crap on the open highway, would almost shake itself apart above 140. 85 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo. Modified with larger turbo and FMI. It was a big handful being FWD. And my mates XB GT 351 Falcon couldn't catch it. 81 MX62 Cressida with mild 308. It did a 14 sec 400m. Loved it purely for the shock value and the sleeper look. And my current toy a 97 VS Clubsport. Off the clock abilities and a 13.7 400m.

Scammers - They Found Their Way Here
clubby2084 replied to mooseman426's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Yep, I get one of those almost every week. I work doing night shift in a 4 star hotel. Let me guess is it ?, " I need 3 rooms for 2 nights including transfers and breakfast, please charge this credit card for $10 thousand dollars and after you deduct the amount for the accommodation please transfer the balance to me in cash" (around 9 thousand dollars usually). This is a very vague example. I've seen some for much larger amounts. Glad your inlaws are on to it, I've seen plenty of hotels and their staff fall for it. -
Very nice Celica you've got. The wheels look much better that the standard steelies. Any plans ?.

I once left my dog in the car while I ran into the shop (I was gone less than 10 minutes). I left the two front windows about half down. My dog (a Beagle cross Blue Heeler) used to sit on the floor of the passenger side foot well. Came back to my car to find some bozo standing beside my car clutching his arm, bleeding everywhere. He started yelling for the Police. Anyway, cops show up (and ambulance). Bozo tells the cops he put his hand in to pat the dog (idiot!). But, cops figure out if he had done that the dog would have bit his hand, not the underside of his forearm. Bozo stuck his hand into the car to check the glovebox and didn't see the dog on the floor. Dog jumped up and BITE. Dog got a pat from Police for a good job, and got a big steak for dinner that night. Moral of the story, get a dog. One with BIG teeth. Not only protects the car, but the house and occupants too. RSPCA might have something to say about leaving a dog in the car all day while your at work though. They have no sense of humor that lot.

Droool... Just wonderful. What happens when a Commodore and Camry get busy ?. Now we know. And the number plates. So it can be registered ?.

Gears Crunching Going From 3rd To 2nd
clubby2084 replied to koolio1234's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
Although it's a different gearbox but, my old man's Hilux snags 3rd on the down shift. Just a mild crunch. He changed the oil in the trans and the problem went away. The manual trans in his Hilux only holds about 2 liters. That was about 4 thousand kilometers ago. It still seems to be OK. As you recently bought the car, do you know when it was last done, if ever ?. Can't hurt. -
There you go Trev, now you know what a 2 piece speedo cable looks like. Could be a later model thing (mines 12/87) ?. There is a bearing in this coupling that I think might be the offending part that's seized in Marti's.
-
Not sure if the Twin Cams are different but, on my 82 the speedo cable is actually 2 piece. From the gearbox the cable travels up to the top of the firewall where there is a connection in the cable. I used to have this faint annoying squeak behind the dash (behind the clock) at low speeds, and the speedo got the shakes at certain speeds. Undid connection and packed it with grease. Squeak gone, speedo is now steady. Might be worth trying if it's 2 piece. If you do replace it, replacing the half to gearbox is a 2 minute job rather than trying to get behind the dash.

Used to be one of these getting around Darwin years ago with a nitrous chewing Subaru WRX motor in it. Had been converted to rear wheel drive, and would pop a wicked wheelie. Don't want to put idea's in your head or anything :jamie:
