Yup, one tough little unit! Its not built to handle or to be a sleeper, it was built to do burnouts and grab attention.... I think it succeeds :D Plus, cast iron LS2, forged internals, 8/71 and old style mechanical injection.... *drooling*

Thanks man. you can sort of see how poor the run of the mill extractors are at the port (departure angle out of the head) in this photo with my old pipes- obviously most manifolds (especially single carby, and short triple manifolds) don't leave head of clearance hence the shitty angles of off the shelf- "one size fits all" type pipes. I can't wait to finish them, file finish them, linish, then eventually ceramic coat them! going to look ʞ©$ɟing awesome! I'm getting the inlet manifolds ceramic coated in black (same theme as before, but the old ones were only painted)

Got stuck back into this on the weekend. Started off by dragging the rusty 4 door from my backyard onto the trailer. It still has a running 186 in the bay, so I stripped the inlet and extractors off, re--fitted the front stubs and wheels, put some air in the tyres and winched it onto the trailer. As my dad doesnt have his workshop anymore, and no 3 phase at his house or mine to run the tube bender, we have been using a friends workshop to do a few things here and there. In good company though- 5 "production car" style V8 racecars, a sprintcar or two and a wingless, plus every tool, bolt, fastener and metal machining gear you can need, complemented by our pipe bender! haha. The old boy has been friends with them for 20+ years and built all the cages in the racecars as well as the exhaust and extractors for those and the sprintcars. They are basically like family! so when they asked if we wanted somewhere to do this sort of stuff we were over the moon! anyway, not many photos of the early bits, but this is with the primaries almost complete- The main idea was to take the layout of HM9c pipes (widely regarded as the best off the shelf pipes availalbe), improve the angle out of the head, go one step larger on the primary size than the HM9s (slightly less "race" version of the HM9cs) (what we have already) and improve their fitment in LC/LJ (no floor bashing or clearancing) We spent about 4-5 hours yesterday (including lunch break, repairing the chain on the bender and general farting about) Got as far as the 2>1 collectors for the primary pipes. That last shot is after I pulled them off, took them home and trialed them on my car. Its VERY surprising how different things are from car to car. They fit, but are further away from some things and closer to others, nothing has to change though (which is a relief!) Surprisingly, these will give MORE starter clearance than the old, very restrictive pipes! at this stage I'm contemplating making them multi-piece (slip joins for the secondaries) to make removal and refit easier. I'll put it together with them uncoated, have the tune etc done, get a few heat cycles through them, and then send them off to be ceramic chrome coated :)

Agreed! Its such a "look at my intercooler" thing, or pure laziness to find a way to fit a cooler without having it hangning in the middle of freaking everything.

Ive got a few pictures on my phone that Ill throw up later, but this thing is now regoed and in the hands of my father in law (god help me) Thinking we will just let him pay us off now for the car and not worry about taking it back after 12 months... Spent the weekend fixing little things for rego, used some VS commodore number plate light globe holders in the PS corner light (just re-wired it) Then used a VS V6 airbox and std filter (bit of cutting to the bottom of the box, but thats it) and a flexi rubber coupling. ended up repairing the AC bracket with some 5mm steeel and turned a spacer up in the lathe to get it all sitting right. Muffler was just a poxy 2" chambered, sorry about that.
-
I had one of these things traded in a couple weeks ago. biggest slug in history, thing was soooo ʞ©$ɟing slow, seating position was very awkard (non adjustable steering colum doesnt help) I can't see why they were worth so much coin off the showroom floor lol.
-
nope! They are for sale! Tyres are all good, one rim has been repaired (have the receipt for $180 odd) and one centre cap is missing. $300 ono for them As for the rear muffler, I'll see what turns up, if it a standard style I will take some photos and grab the part number, its more than likely going to be a single 2" chambered muffler though

Rolla Bus Ae82 W/rebuilt 4agze (yet To Be Started)!
orangeLJ replied to RollaBus_4agze's topic in Rollaclub Rides
I was actually thinking about this car the other day for some reason! don't remember why, but I was! haha. p.s. you should put up a build thread on twincam.org.au, I remember you had the whole thing on tc.org as well as here before and I think thered be some folks interested at the new TC -
they are a 205/40/17 From what I can see, the fronts used to scrub at the front on the inner wheel well, and the rear had 5mm spacers to clear the struts. Its now rolling on dealer option AE92 ROH 5 spokes (14")
-
Rego next week if all goes well. Will take some more photos tonight, but its now on the 14" wheels, interior is clean and Ive rust converted and painted the rust around the screen. Ordered a new rear muffler today (family used to have an exhaust shop, so still order at cost price) will hack the cannon off with the oxy and fit it on the weekend. Need an Airbox pretty badly though its the main hold up at this stage.

Also, I'm working my toosh off on this thing because I'm in the middle of rebuilding my LJ too! and to be honest, I miss the shit out of it! :(

Getting closer to having the panel work all done, drivers door gap is basically spot on passengers (to be expected) is slightly wonky, it was 9pm when I was done fitting up, so will leave stuffing around with panel gaps till its back together and registered. Need to bolt the front bar up (just sitting on atm) Then some inner guard plastics can go in. I still need to paint the mirrors and the front grille, but aside from that and soem minor brush touch-ups I want to do, the outside is done (obviously the rear half needs a buff and polish too) Air con bracket and exhaust this weekend... what great fun I'm in for!

BAAAAAH! my post was in the middle of that! In regards to P plates on fully licenced drivers cars, I think the issue is QLD specific, in NSW I couldnt find a single bit of anything to say it was illegal. I hadnt looked for a long while (its been a fairly long time since anyone in our family was on P plates) but back when I was, I remember it not being an issue (I had vinyl sign cut P plates stuck on my cars, my parents would drive them occasionally) and confirming that with the coppers. I did however get a warning for having both red and green P plates on the back of my ex-missus car, I was on greens, she was on reds, I couldnt pull the sticker off, so slapped a green one behind the number plate. lol

you sir, are a GENIUS.

I have no idea hey! I'm guessing too much pot/meth and some of those dragon statues that stoners always seem to have around their houses? haha the dragon was reasonably well done (little bit dodgy, but showed some skill) the flames were just terrible though. If you like box dog.... well... you'll love LASER DOG! Mirrors will probably go black, but definitely not staying like they are! haha, the grille is the same too!

haha, small world. Its basically all back together as of last night. Missing a few small things (couple specific screws, indicator/parker corner light globe holders, bumper bar bolts) But aside from that, its been a piece of piss. Still searching for a stock airbox to beg/borrow/buy to get it through the blue slip (would worry me if I was taking it to a friend, but I'm not using any more of my favours up on this car! haha) Fartcan is on the chopping block this weekend, as is the broken bracket.
-
The different states could explain it, I'm in NSW. that said, I havent looked at any laws for a while (since I was on Ps myself). Might go have a look.

Well, hope you are all sitting down, this one will make you queezy.... Picked this up reasonably cheap just before christmas, has a few issues and had a small bump in the PS front (nothing major, all superficial) The story that came with it, was that the blokes GF had found out he was cheating on her, so she took to his airbrushing with her car keys, resulting in this- Then it was sold onto the person we bought it from, who's "friend" told her he would have a look at getting it running for her and proceeded to take all the panels off, bars off, lights out etc etc. So she was stuck with a pulled apart car and NFI what to do. (hence the first photo with no front end) soooo long story short, I was on the look out for a cheap car for my father in-law (In a hard spot financially, so trying to help him out, needed a car etc) so this fits the bill. The car needed- front bar Headlight indicator Strut bolts Standard airbox (K&N is for sale) aircon tensioner and mount bracket standard steering wheel (momo is for sale, same with gearknob) Legal sized wheels ($300 for the 17" chrome ones, have good tyres) So far Ive fixed the front suspension (someone had put a set of wreckers struts in it, presumably when the original owner on-sold the car, he took the decent springs and struts out) but the wally/ies didnt put all the bolts back in, so the strut was basically free to wobble around as it was not fully fixed to the hub assembly.... The SX front bar was trashed, its too bent to even pull the bathtub trick on, so I made the decision to bin it. I originally belted the PS front guard out and got it resonably straight with the dolly, however found a sedan fron guard for $30 at the wreckers, which is cheap enough that it made panel beating the gaurd anymore look like a bad idea. So after flicking around looking for someone wrecking a hatch, I came up with nothing, but did find a twincam.org.au member (meadan) selling seca bits. So I made the hour long trip out to his joint and picked up a seca front bar (green) and a set of seca headlights (wasnt too sure if they would fit but was willing to give it a go) Anyway, pictures do most of the talking from there on in, seca headlights didnt work out (lesson learnt) and the last pics are as it sits ATM. Broken aircon bracket and missing tensioner wheels- interior- Flames... New guard no go on the seca headlight- Paint stripped the bonnet (key scratches were bare metal, so no choice) dog in a box- some minor filler work (replacing what was already there basically) Originally I was planning to just blow some paint over in the yard (done it before, not perfect, but it works) however the wind came up pretty bad, so I towed it home and sat it under the carport for a week My mate generally paints all his shit in acrylic, he asked if he could have a go with 2pack, I said why not! haha. and the results (obviously guards are not on! haha) Should have it back together this weekend, doing the aircon bracket and replacing the cast headers (ʞ©$ɟed flange) with another set and bolting the guards on this satdy. Should have rego by the end of next week if everything goes to plan. Father in law is getting it free of charge for 12 months, after that its back to me to either sell off or keep and have a bit of fun with.

You don't happen to know of anyone in NSW with a very early model civic in reasonably standard condition? I need one for a display at our Honda dealership in North Sydney for the first week or two of March. Can sort out some form of payment?? for the right car. :D shame you are in Victoria
-
Officers are not required to have P plates displayed on duty vehicles (I believe its actually a rule that they can't, and they must be atleast a P2 licence holder to be eligible to drive) As far as I was aware, it is not against the law to drive while on an open licence while displaying P plates. L plates, yes, P plates, no.

I had one! :D

Those who remove their track cars from the trailers for the inspection are stupid themselves. The police can't legally make them ;) They can search the vehicle, but AFAIK they cannot legally make you remove the car from the trailer. And if they did ask, people should be smart enough to say "this is a roadway/road related area, I can't legally do that sir" Also, a "track car" shouldnt be regoed and would therefore not be defectable........ We unfortunately/fortunately (depending on the situation) don't have entrapment laws in Aus (well not like they do in the USA anyway) Cops geeing people up is bullshit, but honestly, dumb enough to get caught? you deserve it.

I bought a guard roller the same as this- http://www.dinan540.com/SPECS/Fender-roller.jpg for $120 through my brothers work (Bursons) So id definitely say your chances of hiring it for more than $20 would be basically nill.

I reckon wheelstands a plenty for that thing! saw it at the nats and had to do a a double take! I reckon there is space for a Terra charger, low blower on there! haha

My mother in law works for centrelink, knows her shit about most things. PM me if you want a hand.
