  1. holy crap, he blew it up without forced induction? That is an acheivement! The last burnout comp i went in i held mine at 8000 for 2 minutes, 2 minutes, and 3 minutes, in secound gear, and it didnt pop. Your mate has done well!!!!!
  2. Nah man sorry, i havnt got anything complete enough to do a dummy fit, ive got parts laying around but you will definately need something with a gearbox and at least the inlet manifold. i think the best way to go would be to get a non-turbo like i had, and do the fit and get it running like that, then the changeover later is easy as.... :y: A freind of mine picked up a complete srde motor with gearbox for $400 a few months back, and its in good nick. On ebay ive seen them go for as little as $200, if you can find one local enough to pick up. :D good luck man!
  3. Thanks james! the color is definately different, and people either love it or hate it, so you will always get alot of opinions if you do paint your ke20 this colour. The paint code is TOYOTA AJ the color name is 'bright green'.
  4. Its not about the revs, its about the head design.... An L20 head is a peice of junk, just a bad design, they have a tendency to detonate even when standard with low compression. The L18 head on the other hand is an awesome design and it is possible to run some pretty high compression ratio. Most people put the 1800 head on the 2L, but if you can't be bothered go the 1800. Also according to factory figures the 1800 had more power anyway, less torque though.... :D
  5. I don't think you will have much drama getting your 100rwhp, with 10 pound you may even pull a bit more, the tune would have to be perfect though, cos ya don't want it ta pop! I was thinking though, that would be gettin to be a pretty quick car. my car runs a 14.9 with 110rwhp, so if you can get that(which is likely), your car may run mid14s, because of your lighter weight (motor, diff,g'box, ect). To put that into perspective, an r32 or r33 both run 15.2 in standard form. an early WRX runs 14.4, and the newer shape runs 15.3, WRX EATER!!! :jamie:
  6. :paw: lol, i guess that was stereotyping I guess this means that because i drive a skyline I'm one of those rice racer boys with a massive bodykit, and a bov. and every time i pass a car i feel compelled to back off the throttle just so everyone can hear my bov go 'ptssss'. :jamie:
  7. Awesome story man! i love commo drivers, all reclined back in their seats :jamie: damn funny! As for those skyline drivers............whoops, that would be me. Oh well, no shame in getting smoked by a rola, id be cheerin you on! :paw: Why only 4 pound?? are ya gonna re-pully it?
  8. Thanks man! I am laughin' but these things can never stay the same, the engine is copping a whole lot of attention at the moment, who knows whats next, :lolcry: , I'm havin fun! :(
  9. nah, we all build our cars for our own enjoyment, its all subject to opinion, your car rocks, and i love the wheelz, i draw inspiration and ideas from cars like yours. jamie would have me return my car to standard, and put a set of 13s on it, but that is just his opinion
  10. hey man. At the rate that youre building your machine you'll be keen for a race soon. :( i better get my ass movin'. mmmmm scary.......i hope so.......... :D
  11. Hey man, I'm glad you like the color, i jus done it cos its somethin different. :P with the exterior styling, it is under reveiw, an entire chrome grill is actually a possibility, :D the front end is now graced with a subtle, 780x300 intercooler. As for the lack of det, thats just a money thing. i started building the car as a first yr apprentice, as i slowly got richer, i added more good bits. i i am at the moment chuckin a T3 onto the srde motor for a bit of fun, but in the meantime i am building a full forged/ h beam motor that will put out approx 230kw at the treads. Once i get that motor finished, i might just find out how much boost the srde can handle! :( :(
  12. The mazda 1000 utes have full chassis, in QLD this means it fits into a completely different catagory for its weight, as compared to a mono-constructed corolla. mono construction under 1100kgs is weight times 2.5 for turbo motor capacity. chassis is weight times approx 4.5, (id have to look it up), much more fun!
  13. Welding of diffs is something that is not as easy as it should be, apparently something to do with the hardened gears, or some crap. I have done a few, with both the stick and mig and one lasted a record of 2wks :D maybe a pro job is the go? I don't recomend welding an already broken diff though, it has proved to be very dangerous. A mate of mine who had also broken his spider gears, welded the diff up so that he could get back to his place (a 40 minute drive on the highway), he got about 20 min along with no dramas, then the thing locked up at 100ks, :D , that was the end of that car.
  14. After driving it for about a yr on my Ls and Ps, my old man finally decided to let me put a bigger motor in it. Unluckily enough it turned out to be a 3T celica motor. About 6 months after that i wrote the car off again, this time was a much worse write off , because the entire front of the car was very bent. After many hours on the stretcher, we then cut the front off at the firewall, and welded back on a donar 80 model front end. This took about a month of arvos with the grinder and chisel and hammer. The car now has an sr20 in it and I still need to learn to drive. Today in moloollabah i felt the need to go sideways and, hitting secound around a corner, i lost more traction than anticipated and veered across the road to hit a very square gutter. Luckily i washed off most of my speed before the gutter, but, the car once again needs to visit the stretcher for minor surgery. THE ROLLA WITH NINE LIVES! Due to this little mishap i will now miss the QLD powercruise next weekend, as the car will not be fixed in time =) ] spewin'
  15. my turn! This is how i purchased my rolla back in 98 at the huge age of 16. i purchased it from the auctions for $125. It needed a new radiator support panel, new front gaurds and bonnet and a bit of rust repair.
  16. That is very cool! Yes, the wheels are the ultimate! It is a shame u didnt use a 90+ model four runner shell but, that would be just that tiny bit cooler. =)
  17. I agree with jamie on this one. Not only that silvias are excessively gay, but the price of a nissan motor vs toyota motor.Nissan motors are cheaper and sometimes even an easier fit. It doesnt end there though, the real decider for me was the price of aftermarket parts! A highmount, high grade stainless manifold for an sr was $230..... Unbreakable conrods $500......forged pistons $700......, not to mention every possible turbo combo has been tried and proven :D
  18. I am running falcon EL shocks in mine, same length and travel. I had to change the botton spring plate though, cos they have the other type of end on the bottom. KYB fully adjustable are 220 each for these. :D
  19. 70hp is a fair bit from your 1500 :D , but when you do the maths with the cubes, i am still up on you by 7rwhp....bwahahahaha.......completely unmodified in any way, running stocko low compression. As for the L20, those motors rock, ive spent a fair bit of time watching my bro play with an L20 with twin 45s, 140+ definately!
  20. Indicator flashers don't work if the voltage on the battery is even slightly low. The two places i have had a rub-through on my tail light loom are under the rear seat, and where the plugs go through the body for the number plate lights.. The under seat short was due to my poor installation of the seat though......GOOD LUCK!
  21. On my ke30 the earth point for the lights is in the engine bay on the DS just infront of the strut down near the structural rail-- hope that helps... It is also possible to have no earth due to a bit of rust or something being in between the surfaces. :D
  22. I just took the rola to the drags yesterday, and I'm excited! It ran a 14.9 at 91 mph, crossing the line in third at 8000rpm, so the gearing was perfect. I also had it on a dyno a few weeks back and it put out 110hp at the treads, beating a whole heap of worked dattos, sigmas, and geminis. except for one gemini which ran an injected 2.6 extremely worked. It put out 140hp! na....HOLY CRAP!.......so i got secound in the 4cyl class. :D
  23. 2T and 3T motors...Noooooooooooo!!!!!!! I personally hate these motors... I dedicated a yr of my life and spent thousands attempting to make a 3T fast. This was my first conversion into my ke30 and i highly recomend against it. These are an ancient, low tolerance motor, that is sure to disapoint. And best of all, they have bumpy top pistons, yep, mt everest on top of your piston! yay! Admittedly, i never played with the twin cams, but i would definately go for some thing newer! The fact that the twin cams have twin plugs suggests that they still have bumpy top pistons...Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
