  1. I think weather someone should undertake an import conversion depends on their knowledge and ability to do work themselves, the cost can be kept down if someone has logical thinking ability, and the ability to weld. This is the cost of my sr20 conversion. motor and box $800, computer $1400, radiator $580, tailshaft $120, tuning $50. TOTAL: $3000 running. 110hp@wheels(big diff). I have been, and driven a few twin webbered, worked L20 motors and i agree that my car felt slower, and alot less exciting, but over the quarter, my car was actually quicker. Each one to their own i guess. I think the main advantage in the efi is the ability to go faster later if desired, a turbo is way more fun! :lolcry:
  2. i don't know if you mentioned this but the inlet manifolds between twin and single cam are not interchangeable.
  3. An o2 sensor is only required while tuning the vehicle. Factory vehicles use them to anylize the tune of motor because of changing climate conditions. What most people do is go to their tuning shop where the mechanic bolts a wideband o2 sensor onto the end of their exhaust (which has nothing to do with the wolf), and tunes the car on the road or dyno till it is spot on. He then removes his anylizer, charges you, and unless you further modify your car, or australia freezes over, your car will stay in perfect tune. You donot need to purchase an o2 sensor.
  4. I cut a circle out of an ice-cream container lid, and bolted it under the wheel.
  5. My uncle made a torana ute,the approval alone was over $1500, and the test is VERY demanding of chasis strength. They tie # corners of your car down, then jack one up to a certain pressure, then measure flex! :hammer:
  6. I think it is a great idea, it only takes a few small things to get 3.8 type power out of one of these big berthas. I don't think it would handle all that bad either as long as you kept it against the firewall. The problemi beleive would be approval. In qld not possible. The 1ggte is legai in qld because the celica weighs more than 1100kg(correct me if I'm wrong on the weight). Your rola weighs 930kg approx, max na size in qld 2.6litres. I can't imagine that any other state would be that much different. :jamie:
  7. No its not likely that the stocko setup has one, you need to drill and tap. The sensor will come with the wolf. Live adjustments, i have read that it will, but you probably have to tell it to. I have never worried about it cos i get my car tuned after everything i do to it, which is extremely often.
  8. The wolf does have a provision for o2 sensor apparently. Depending on your mechanic, some will argue the computer will not respond to variables (air temp) properly without this hooked up, however, the wolf runs a intake air temp sensor, which you will have to use, which if the car is tuned properly in the first place will make neccesary adjustments. When you take your car in for RWC/mods approval, make sure you do 'dummy' connect the o2 sensor just in case the opinion of the inspector is different. If you have the books that come with the wolf have a good read, they are written in language even i can understand, i have found them extremely helpful.
  9. yeh, what he said. If you mount your motor in the correct position you will find that this new hole lands right on top of the seat rail that goes across your floor :hmm: don't worry about it yet though, just get a box and start to fit the motor.
  10. The spinning of bottomend bearings is usually due to detonation, which says nothing about the ca18, except there are more tossas out there who own ca18s that don't get them tuned, or overboost them.
  11. That order will do! :y: If your fuel tank is below your surge tank then the overflow must be on top. Also, if your fuel system is 'as above', you must be careful to buy a lift pump that will pull as well as push.Aftermarket Fuel pumps are usually designed to push only, so lift pump should be picking up from the bottom of tank, with pump mounted below your tank. Push and pull type pumps are available, but are harder to find. If the above setup does not have a push and pull type pump, then it is simply relying on a syphon effect, which i guess would work........ but do you really want to? :hmm:
  12. The return line can be returned to either your fuel tank or surge tank. The problem with returning to your surge tank is that the same fuel can pass through your fuel rail several times, because it is only getting mixed with a small amount of extra fuel from your surge tank, the fuel your car is receiving can actually get quite warm, this will effect overall power cos fuel burns better cold. The advantage of this however is that your lift pump can be small, almost any low pressure pump will do. The other option of running back to your fuel tank eliminates this problem, but also means you need a much better lift pump.Like a holley red for example(depending on pressure pump size). Remember also that your fuel return line should be as large as your pressure line.
  13. yep, what he said. Its legal in QLD but that means f-all to you. It is also almost a bolt-in, less the clutch bit. Do a search on here, try 2T.
  14. i went to dashboard restorations in brisbane, slacks creek from memory. As for taking it back, they offer no warranty on recolour, its ovious to me now why. The extra price was for the recolour as well. This was not my only problem however. The paint coverage was poor, and in places there was actually sand underneath the new vynal. Imagine how good that looks on a new dash. When i went back to complain they simply gave me a jar of paint. YAY! Talk them up all you want, you were just lucky so far. . . . . . .
  15. A t25 off a silvia is pretty much the same as a gt25, they have .63 housing, and you would get one for about $100. The main difference with the gt series is ball bearing, so i guess it depends on your budget.
  16. Dashboard restorations hey, Well, lets just say the result on mine was pathetic, and after 6 months the paint has millions of cracks through it. Hardly a $420 job. :abuse:
  17. celica box is definately a good idea. I think what ca18rola was trying to say about the speedo is that if put an old sender in the new box you can change back to a cable and your stocko rola cable will screw straight on, meaning you retain a standard dash and cable. This really doesnt matter to you anymore though i guess cos you have decided to go with the toyota box.
  18. 3t = boat anchor. if you want to do a conversion, update, don't waste your time.
  19. Or a bluebird sender, off an old L20 powered beast fits too ;)
  20. option A i suspect. The 18r is a 2litre.
  21. Licence, who needs a licence :) Yep, apparently my rolla went from 110 to 153kph in 130 metres, well thats what the police radar gun said anyway.... :(
  22. There are bellhousings available to bolt up supra and celica boxes to nissan motors, so you don't have to go and get one made. I can't remember who makes them though????? I think the changing gears in the backseat thing mostly applys to the ke2x models. Cos my stick is in the perfect spot. The toyota boxes are sooo much better though!
  23. Yep, lookin forward to that progress, it really is easier than you think, well i guess everything is easier in hindsight. . . . . and i secound what ca18rola said! don't get too carried away, or in a couple of yrs you will have a 15 grand 78 rola...whoops.
  24. Yeh, we have been very careful with the timing though, when i get my final tune we're gonna try advancing it a little more. Fingers crossed! KABOOM!
