  1. Horsepower sells engines, Torque wins races.
  2. Makes sense to me. Just as long as we can remove this misconception that the spigot carrys the load. What an absolute load of tripe.
  3. I wouldn't pay any attention to that number. Maybe halve it and work on that. I know when I did stickers earlier in the year I had EOI for 50+ and less than half of those people actually came through when it came time to pay. Wasn't very nice being left hanging with $250 worth of left over stickers. Shame...
  4. Do you need full comprehensive (which IMO is kinda a waste of money for an old corolla) or just 3rd party (+fire/theft?)?
  5. Its not. I believe the wording is something to the effect of "No cutting, heating or welding".
  6. OK you guys need to stop and have a think for a moment. You're handing out advice for something which is clearly illegal (and for good reason). There was a guy who was involved in a fatality in Sydney some years ago. It was found his car had cut springs and he was subsequently charged with manslaughter. Now should this happen to someone who's read a thread supporting the cutting of springs on Rollaclub technically they could turn around and say "this guy advised me that it was ok and safe". You (and potentially I as the webmaster for not taking action) could subsequently be charged with accessory to manslaughter (ok I'm not a lawyer but there is a liability there). Now I dunno about you but I would rather not leave myself open for even the possibility of that happening. OK so even if it does happen and a lawyer could get you/I out of it that costs money to defend and thats money I don't have. "Sure" I hear you say "But there's lots of other advice we hand out that could turn out the same way". True, but the vast majority of those can be engineered to be legal and it's not our responsibility to ensure that people do in fact engineer their cars. Cut springs cannot be engineered. They cannot be made legal and therefore Rollaclub or any of its members should not be advising people that it is the right thing to do. I will be asking moderators to respond to any future cut spring threads stating Rollaclubs view on the subject, removing any posts supporting the idea and locking the thread. I really do hate to be the fun police but I think this is in everyone's best interest.
  7. Sorry to hear :)
  8. Vid so others don't have to go digging. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kWdmOmzmZHI
  9. Cause as much detonation as possible.... duhh!!
  10. I've been having good success with a P&W Wasp Major in factory trim if you're looking for something with a little more punch than the Merlin :) Best of both worlds, twin turbo and supercharged!
  11. In my opinion you don't want zero toe on a circuit. The idea behind toe is that it preloads the tyre so that when you turn the wheel you don't have to take up the slack in the tyre. You'll probably find the car wanders and doesn't turn in as sharp (then again with the other suspension changes it will probably feel better anyway). I'd be heading more for 1deg toe out but you're going to have to experiment with that.
  12. Refrigerated transport? Diesel for the refrigeration compressor. Great costume! Suits you down to the ground.
  13. Really Cam all the rings do is center the wheel when you do the nuts up, they take absolutely zero real load under normal operating conditions. I have plastic ones and they show no signs of any pressure deformation what so ever. If they were taking the load of a 1300kg car on each corner (358kg on each of the fronts using a 55/45 weight distribution) that <1cm wide strip of plastic would be absolute mince meat. I believe they provide relief from small vibrations to stop the nuts from undoing themselves along with locating the rim centrally (another vibration solution). I've seen hubcentric aftermarket rims snap studs off because the nuts weren't done up sufficiently tight. That guy was very lucky that the rims were hubcentric because it stopped one of two rims shearing ALL of the studs and flying off on its merry way. As for plastic vs metal, I like the plastics because I'm constantly changing rims and they're easier to get off. I don't really see any overwhelming positives that would make me want to use alloy rings. That said I am moving to factory hubcentric rims for track use.
  14. How about a month of Rollaclub members racing cars as a montage?
  15. LOL what an absolute nutter!
  16. I've only ever done it once...and I think it scared me more than anyone else :) It was one of those brain fart moments driving along bored and playing with things around the dash and without thinking switched the car off and on.
  17. A supra engine (1G, 1JZ, 2JZ) in a AE101....? sorry but LOL.
  18. Sooo..... whats wrong with this one...?
  19. lol that makes more sense :D
  20. Exhaust? Thats where I'd be looking. How do you mean effect the engine? As in running? You need the cam covers on to run the engine! I suppose you could run it without the cam covers if you like cleaning up oil and engine bay fires...
  21. You're better off leaving it there if it isn't causing you any real (i.e. non-cosmetic) problems. If its bothering you that much get some flashy coloured silicon hose and replace all the lines verbatim.

But if you get caught you're gonna get absolutely reamed and you'll probably have the car confiscated permanatly. Rebirthing, stolen property etc etc etc. Yes people do get caught.
  23. Dunno about legalities but the standard K40/50 wont work with a 4A. You'll need a T50. Price wise, it really depends how much you can do yourself. A full workshop conversion could be $5k+ but guys around here have done self conversions for as little as $2k. In your position I wouldn't expect to do it that cheaply (just to avoid nasty surprises). Do yourself up a little budget then double it and thats about how much you'll end up spending (worked for me!).
