  1. Any other bottom end mods i should be looking at?? Picked up some 40thou pistons thanks to kickn5k. Motor is getting decked, bored/honed, balance pistons rods flywheel and gettin the crank spun up and balanced too. Anything else worthwhile to do to this bottom end?? Thanks
  2. i am running 2" reset lowered, extra leaf, and superpro bushes throughout. koni adjustables in the rear. still has tramp but its probably a touch too stiff. i guess you play around and see what works for you. depends on what your doing and driving, heaps of shock options, and I'm pretty sure 36-38 wagon helper springs can work for cheap but really depends what you want to do. i think i got away with about $250 for the leafs rebuilt. talk to a spring shop thats there job they know it inside out, they can give you the best option they know
  3. I just quoted one $62.95 need to order in but available. I asked for a km36 5k-c. Didnt get part number but aorry
  4. sounds good to me. would you recomend head studs also or are the 5k ones up to the task?, no boost just high compression and revs
  5. So call back from engine builder today, bottom of bores 20thou top 35thou. So were goin 40 over. Mains rods and cam bearings all good. Goin for a fully lightened bottom end and lightened flywheel. Any other things i should get done before i start assembly??! Hows the rods and pins hold up?? Is it worth looking at running head studs and will an acl monotorque head gasket be suitable for the build???? Still not sure about cam either. Thanks lads
  6. there was one 71 with xmember and 4ac auto, the other was boned out, didnt really look too hard into it. what u chasing u mught be able to get ther and have a quick look. purple ones pedal box is gone
  7. was at ipswich/blacksoil wreckers and saw a ke36 and a 55 coupe. both pretty empty and rusty but always some bits to grab. also went to oxley wreckers and saw 2 ae71 one wagon and a ke70. also a ep71??. anyways just thought id spread the word
  8. see ive always wanted to stay hydraulic but alot of people and tighe cams have also told me that solids is where its at. then you hear the likes of philby and coln72 and these lads swear by running hydraulic lifters. originally i wanted hydraulics for ease of operation but got nervous with tolerances with high lift cam and big compression. ive talked to my engine builder and hes encouraging solids also. i think about keeping hydraulics and giving them all a good cleanout, but when i gutted the 5k hydraulic lifter, put the top cup back in and measured the 3k lifter with it, it identical length as the 5k rod with hydraulic lifter measurement uncompressed. i don't know what to do
  9. measured my 5k hydro pushrods (ball and ball) they come in at 150.9mm. datsun a12 are 152mm according to google. ive just picked up some 3k cup and ball rods and am thinking of running the gutted hydraulic lifter with 4k adjustable rocker posts but am worried about loss of oil pressure. trying to get ahold of 3f lifters to run some measurements. any reason why you wanna run hydraulic cam and lifters??
  10. hey gjm how did you work that out?? just running off lifter lenght and 5k pushrod length? I'm still stumped to how to run 5k solid lifters, probably from a 3f cruiser, then I'm thinking 3k pushrods and 4k adjustable rockers. you think that will work?!! cheers
  11. i want to run solids i have all hydraulic gear
  12. shaved 5k with lugs under 1 &4 and d shaped pistons
  13. I'm in exactly same boat as you. i have a 5k bottom end. hydraulic lifters and hyraulic cam and a well ported 5k head. i will not change heads due to the porting already done. ill be using 4k adjustable rocker gear and i have measured the distances between 5k pushrod and lifter. and 5k gutted lifter with the cup back in and 3k pushrod and measurements are pretty close. i have been told there is oil pressure issues and grub screw is needed to block off oil. i can't get any concrete info on 5k head and block with what setup . it all seems to be use 4k head
  14. i would never fit a second hand wheel cylinder. they are about $25
  15. there is a theory that ta22 mounts on the 2t/3t/2tg will fit into a ke crossmemeber. I'm not really sure as the crossmember was designed to be built for a slant motor. google 2t in ke30 - 55 3t in ke30 55 i did months of research and came across a dude called johny rochester who did a heap of work to build up a te37 styled corolla, i had a 3t with t50 in my ke35 and it fit well with the xmember i modified and gearstick came thru where old 5spd sat and connected up to my tailshaft. u will need hydraulic clutch and pedal setup. gearbox xmember etc.. pm for more info
  16. wow!! dodgey!!! wht the ʞ©$ɟ is all that dog shit?!?! not a 5k head don't know why its running hyrdaulic lifters and adjustable pushrods with cuts and the ʞ©$ɟ with welding?? looks like youve got a little challenge on your hands
  17. it looks like a 5k head. does it have ally lugs under spark plug 1 & 4?? also whats goin on is that adjustable rocker gear and you said hydraulic lifters?? more photos would help. no idea bout the cam did you hear it run??. you could always cc the head
  18. money has been spent mate, larger vlaves and big porting, intake is huge and all sorted. i will have to get the head flow tested to determine lift at what flow to suit the cam. everything is match ported good info you've put up too bruce, cheers good stuff.
  19. no, the head was ported to suit the previos owner/builders want. i just pickdd it up and don't have the details. does that 28" mean anything in terms of lift to build a cam around or should i get it flow tested. i sold all my pus holden gear years ago and now have a sorry spot for corollas. toyotas all the way!!! just wanna build it righ first and enjoy it all. 5k head, bottom end. need good guidance on solid lifter setup/ good replacement valve springs and a guide on 40mm twin weber tuning
  20. yeah cool lads, any ideas are good, id be keen on seeing some pics phil if you have any and i might steal your idea of the baffles in the sump.i have 3 here to play around with if i ruin one wont be too much drama. just using for street then hopefully dirt/track
  21. has anyone thought about or mafe a windage tray or scraper for there k series engine??while ive got mine apart i can't see too many dramas and just after some ideas if there floating about. i think it would be eaiser for me to weld something to the sump than attach to mains. is it worth it or just over the top?? any info??
  22. ok so i sat down with verniers and measured the 5k gear and a 3k rod that i had, 5k rod is 151mm x 7 mm with a ball end both ends 5k lifter is 50.8mm length by 21.3mm diameter 3k rod is 186mm with a cup and ball setup. the cup end has a depth of 3.8mm to bottom out against the rocker post 5k lifter, with spring and piston inside removed, top cup inserted and 3k pushrod is 194mm 5k lifter with 5k rod is 194-195mm. only drama is figuring out how much adjustment i have between a set face on the 5k solid rocker arms, and the 4k adjustable rocker gear. i can wind the threads out but will have to see how much i have to play with. makes me think that felix's setup would work well, its just the 5k gutted lifter with insert in the bottom is really sloppy and doesnt sit well with me. Anyways its pretty bloody close and at the right price of free its a good start. Anyone know if the 202 valve springs will suit my 5k head and the benefit of running them/ or there coil bind pressure and at what lift?? cheers lads
  23. yeah thats the drama, its 5k head on 5k block, seems theres heaps out there for the other combos. just not the 5k one. ive read felix got away with using gutted ones so ill pm him
