  1. For that price I would be shortening a r31 8 3/4" can get drum or disc rear. Mini spools are about $100 on ebay. Easily get the diff/shortened/spool for 600. Also early hilux rn41??? Are close to corolla width I'm pretty sure. I wouldnt bother with ta22 youd still have to weld leaf perches and play around with it. Prety sure some older vans fit and are an upgrade also
  2. Sick good work man
  3. Probably just been rebuilt at some stage. Common to stamp them in areas with the 7s
  4. Hit up Surecam. can't fault him and he knows his shit. Research is king
  5. Youll find alot of cam grinders will want you to run adjustable rockers due to being able to set a greater gap to allow exhaust cooling, heard that it can cause dramas. Man hit up coln72. Hes a wealth of knowledge and ran a 5k to 8grand. Really youve built the wrong motor if you want to be hitting those revs all time anyways. I used phill duggan from Surecam. He built my 5k cam but went solid and its big. Get my 40mm twins back end of next month ill let u know how she goes
  6. Happend to me years ago. Just cold chisel/punch it. Hit it round to undo it and replaced with high tensile bolts. Stuff having loose steering
  7. Yeah with that sort of power and setup I wouldnt consider a stock diff. 9" 8 3/4" hilux diff all options
  8. Looks great mate. don't mind those wheels either they look alright. You musta worked quick looks like you you got it all together pretty easy. Whts the plans for it? Just a cruiser
  9. lowered my 82. Started with all corner superpro bush kit from ranko87 at citysuspension. Big ups!! Anyone chasing gear do yourself a favour. So I picked up some second hand lowered struts and went to out them in. Didnt look when I bought them but was told will fit twinky. Put rear bushes in and rear struts and the car was cutting my tyres. Way too low. Looks fat. can't have anyone in the car but me, scrubs everywhere. This is after I rolled every guard. Put new rear wheel bearings in while I was at it so rear is sussed bar struts. I have to get new rear struts sooner than later. Front I picked up some kyb excel gs as I was needing to drive the car and couldnt have it not being my daily. Perfect with kingys for drivi g. Still waiting for adjustable/fatter rear swaybar so let me know if anhone has one!!! Getting wheel alignment tomorrow so hopefully sort the scrubbing out a bit. Handles well so be interested to see with the alignment. Picked up e58 lsd today and it was bombed on its nuts. Had a heap of parts and was a steady scrubby drive home. Ill put a few posts up down the track but just enjoying it as a daily. Got some front bigger brakes off ae93 s2 so ill get them on with new pads. Using no oil since I fixed the dizzy seal! Go the 4a. Cheers
  10. Youll never hit the plug the valves will go first. Another old school trick is to face the spark to the exhaust port
  11. So been a bit slack because I was trying to organise shit and sell another car but ive just picked up a 4agze and e58lsd. Its only very early days and intend on the bigport to get me around as a daily until its time to drop her in. Its a ae101 MAP 4agze with full loom. Unsure of whether to turbo or remain supercharged. Thinking of turboing as I have a s14 t28 here. I have heard that the gze ecu will deal with a turbo and some say it wont. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/ opinions/ issues that may arise with the conversion?? I want reliability and drive ability. I would rather a responsive motor over boost coming on like a light switch. Should try and install the 2" lowered struts/springs this weekend but will be pushing to at least get superpro bushes for the control arms so I can do it all at once But hey any ideas or suggestions on the conversion I'm all ears. Its gonna be a learning curve. Cheers
  12. Sounds like the starter would be the next thing to look at. Try see if you can throw the starter with leads/wires or clutch start it
  13. spent a bit of time on her last week, flushed radiator, ran mukowt thru the motor for 20mins, dropped mix and replaced thermostat. the gauge gets to about half way before the thermo fan kicks on but the car runs just under a quarter while on cruise. I'm going to look at the thermo fan switch but I'm happy with how the cooling systems going. checked the resistance on the trd spark plug leads, all for show, ill be replacing them as some where pretty bad and must have some age about them. i picked up some monroe gt and lowered springs a few days ago so ill be chasing up some superpro bushes and change it all out at once. ive been reading about castor in the front struts, so i just turn the top 90 degrees and it will give me more castor is that right...?? got round to giving it a really deep cut and the paint lost alot of its chalkyness. its got some nice wax on it now and looks much better. sorted out some tint also so I'm pretty happy with how its all looking and going. any other suggestions for the car? I'm thinking of returning standard air box and getting rid of the pod, need to tidy up a few interior pieces, wanting to chase up a rear swaybar and probably tweek the exhaust system a bit, maybe better cat. put some photos up soon!
  14. 40 million corollas made. thats a lot of cars. ive owned a 55,35, 2 36s, 2 ke70s and now have another ke35. i see them go for silly money but i don't know if they sell for that. my old 35 i sold for 3200 in absolute granny spec with a rebuilt motor, no rust to a collector who tried to get 7000 for it. needless to say it sat on the market. ive picked some of my cars up for 300-500. there a really easy car to work on and theres heaps of parts if you float round on forums/ebay/gumtree/facebook buy swap sells. you'l always get some good deals. good platform to learn on and to build/modify/restore and enjoy. great base to learn flaws with motors and to fix on the side of the road and keep goin, so yes pretty reliable i say look at a few around and get an idea of what your price buys you. tyres, soggy suspension, paint, condition of engine, panel damage all make things more expensive and more dramas to fix but depends on what you want. the more you look the more you will realise what is worth your money. i think if you want a car thats worth more down the track look for the likes of the rarer models, - ke30 2door, coupes etc.. but then parts can become an issue. if your interested in tinkering buy a nice good clean example, clean it inside and out, polish it, get it back to granny spec and drive it round and enjoy it. bushes are cheap as are brakes and suspension, k motors run for centuries, be nice to it and itl be nice to you, they have personalities!! but what ever you do don't hold back on this forum. theres a wealth of knowledge and alot of great people willing to help you through jobs on the car. good luck
  15. Coulda gone hydro but he wanted more valve adjustment. Set at 12thou. 505lift 28x duration. Need 181mm rods to be exact but will sus out the 4k. Cheers
  16. hey well thats embarrasing!! ive been using 3k rods cut down and tapped to make adjustables, never occured to me that length, or the fact i never had any here to measure to 4k. off to the wreckers for some 4k rods by the look of it. hopefully i can get away with the adjustment, and if not ill get some customs. cheers
  17. Smack bang on it! Running 3f solid landcruiser lifters. 4k rocker gear. 5k worked head o/s valves and 40thou over 5k block. Needed adjustable rockers for solid grind cam
  18. Hey guys. Got a 5k ive almost finished and am looking for some custom made ball cup 182mm pushrods. Has anyone had any luck with some idea of where I can get them made. Ive heard heaps of suggestions like diy/ put in adjustable. Ive been told crower or jet engineering but hoping someone on here might know a good source?? Cheers
  19. Hey yeah the car did have black lights and a big dirty cannon. Got rid of that quick smart. Actually drives pretty good with the 15's. Needs some decent grippy tyres and suspension sorted soon. Yeah parrot ill give the whole system a flush. Has a near new radiator and green coolant but that doesnt mean anything. Ill spend sometime on her tomorrow and get the cooling system sorted. I started with a cut and polish but gave up when it looked the same. Awesome runabout but. 400km downcwith over a quarter of a tank to go
  20. so i picked her up, not a bad little runner, changed the plugs as soon as i got it, changed the complete power of the car, i thought they were gone, obviously. Opened the dizzy to find it full of oil, so have just picked up a few seals and bearing for it and should be good to go. shocks need replacing but other than that not a bad ride. 195/50/16 on it and they scrub a bit so I'm looking at either folding the guards or some smaller tyres. pretty impressed but
  21. ohh its ridiculous when i drove it with those 16's. i was waiting to be impressed but kept telling myself it needs a tune. should be good for fuel and feel better with the right rim/tyre. i gotta keep telling myself its only a daily when i still have 3 projects and don't need another!!! . all for the love of it i guess. and yeah no intentions of bombing it up with cams and such, maybe a computer if one comes up cheap enough but yeah, ive found a cheap gze, but like i said, enough projects. i think it just needs some lovin
  22. hey guys thanks for the responses, Parrot- yeah ill chase some plugs up, as for airbox does the twinky and say ae92 airbox fit, or did ae82 come with 4afe? and would that fit?. thanks for the suggestion about the heat shield, it still has it on mine but the dizzy seal is leaking so it may have gotten the oring hot and created a hard seal. i did a compression test on purchase and it had 150,140,150,150. so steady and pretty consistant. i have been researching mods and all, i have found a cheap bigport and am thinking of recoing the head and swapping them down the track, but then i may as well do the bottom end and swap them over, but then going to the extent of a engine swap i may as well go 4agze. ill just run the motor and see how it performs/lasts and make arrangements to suit. and altezza - i hadnt thought of that but until you said it - make it comfortable to drive, ill chase some gear up and some tint to keep it cool, will definately get the suspension sorted to make the drive nice and some decent tyres. all something to learn about and play around with, cheers ill do a bit of a rides thread, and yeah if anyone has handling tips I'm all ears thanks
  23. Hey lads, just picked up my new daily AE82 twinky. goes alright, got it for cheap, don't know a great deal about the 4a motors but keen on learning, and advice would be good. looking at going mechanical freshen up straight away, are platinums plugs worth it? toyota or ryco filter? will do fuel filter and all oils, coolant etc. going to get superpros full suspension bush kit in it asap. its running 16's with what feels like stiff suspension. what ive been researching is nice set of 15's 195/50/15 not sure on offset if anyone has some good advice on what sits flush, i have a guard roller. the motor has high k's on it, but has been well looked after, i need it too pull around 1000ks a fortnight so economy/reliability is up there as priority. its running extractors/2", shocking cannon that will be off immediately and a pod in the engine bay. I'm thinking of CAI the pod into the inner guard, clean up everything in general, ditching cannon asap, bush kit, what spark plugs are suited to motor, what oil is best to run with higher kms and amount? anything anyone else can think of to help me would be awesome, its a trick little car i look forward to getting it tidy and using as a daily. also all up for any additional mods anyone can think of, bit more poke would be nice but ill see how it goes after the tune up. thanks very much
  24. been along time between drinks, not for me but for this update. man that last ones a bit sketchy.... anyways dropped off the twin 40s for complete rebuild, all looked the goods and got quoted a really good price for the build, engine is half assembled but still looking for time to get the head on and sort out pushrods. really my only hold back is carbs, got some 32mm chokes, right pushrod length and the end of assembly. ive been really slack and wanted the cool weather and e85 but ill see how quick i can get it sorted when i have carbs sitting there ready for me. rego is due in december and honestly its my deadline to have it completely sorted and hopefully painted. time to clear out everything around it ive made to get some room for the poor old girl. looking forward to starting it and a bit of a tune and run it in. can't wait to put some k's on it and meet up for some cruises. wait for some pictures....:) cheers ..
