  1. please, on a public forum. makes me feel so much better about my own relationships :)
  2. ahhh i see, that would have been fun then, nothing better then fixing other peoples shit :)
  3. what was so bad about getting the rear screen out?
  4. just enough so i will know you'll be coming back :P
  5. yeah mate, its a foldable trade tools one. pretty sure its the same as what mungi mods rents out. if you do borrow it, don't be offended if i take a bit of collateral, incase it doesnt come back home? and how long would you want it for? cheers, andy
  6. just don't trust advice from ajps, always do your own research :) glad you worked the problem out, its something i will ahve to remember :)
  7. towe, did they not get a little confused when they realised the suspension was a little different to that of a torana? :blinks:
  8. hey mate, ive got an engine hoist, but might be a bit of a trek for ya down here. maybe someone further up can help you out? you really should have put this in members rides, maybe someone will move it soon, mods are usually pretty good on these sorta things... good luck with it all, don't rush and you will end up with a nice little car, just know what you want, and how your gonna do it, before you do anything you can undo easily :) and might be a bit late, but all those different nuts bolts and screws, try collect a bunch of containers, like old bean tins or soup tins etc, and keep all the bolts from each thing seperate, so much easier to put shit back then :) cheers, andy
  9. so thats sorta how anything in the car came out, alternators, starters, cams, seats, etc then i pulled the motor down, apart from the cams everything was good, and the cams were not too bad in this motor, definately salvagable, but theyre babies, HKS 248, 7.3 and 256 8.1 before putting anything away it got degreased and pressure cleaned, then what needed to not rust was wd40'd so should make a nice clean reassembly. then i did the gearbox, which even though had a bunch of water in it, the gearsets had stayed dry, so they were good. and i think i said thats been rebuilt? :) then it was the diffs turn, which too has been rebuilt, but there was no water in it, which made me rather happy, considering its a near new crownwheel and pinion. so just needed pinion bearings and the limo reset this is how the cams looked when they came out the car one of them still wrapped from where it had been sent to wade cams and reground, due to a couple of pitted lobes. as you can see, pretty poor looking, but the mechanic reckoned he could fix it on the lathe with some emory paper, so i had to find out for myself, before taking them to him. so i got some emory paper and had a little go they cleaned up alright, surprisingly, so i took them to him, and he will finish them, and hopefully they hold out just fine :) bought all new headlights yesterday, might get to fit them this afternoon :)
  10. haha I'm leaving my car LHD and one of the main reasons is so i can get powersteering and a quick rack power steering is a god send imo
  11. nah, not really much said still stands to his guns saying you moved the car out. not my problem at the end of the day, the buck stops with him. when i saw the car once and it was uncovered he said the cover had blown off and was going to recover it, but that never happened. so it was his carelessness really. but we all do silly things when we are busy etc, so I'm not gonna hold a grudge. so long as the cams come up good. and the flood was almost a blessing. i now have the cars home, and i can run the project and make shit happen, its more legwork for me, but i don't mind, and i get to do most of the assembly, basically how it all started then deviated away once the car got to the workshop and nothing happened, not this time though. its getting done right, and on my timeframe. the heavens above permitting that is, and theyre not helping i tell ya :lolcry:
  12. tomorrow i wil get the pics up, maybe... theres really not much to show lol
  13. ok, update time. its been too long between updates. theres too much to tell. theres also pictures, but they will have to wait :P engine has been stripped. measured up as 77mm pistons and 81mm stroke. crank is undamagaed from flood water, assembly lube from when i put it back together 2 or 3 years ago after getting crank crack tested saved the day on that one. cams that were in the motor are not too bad, will linish up alright. the 272* hks cams i bought seperately, i discovered sitting in the car, which has been outside in the elements for about a year. but amazingly i had them on the lathe last night, and any pitting under the surface rust is very slight. took all the cams back to the mechanic this arvo and he will get them blasted tomorrow and then will linish them for me. i also opened the gearbox and cleaned the water out of that, same with the diff. have taken them both to diff and gearbox industries, i think thats what theyre called, blokes called steve, absolute top guy, no bullshit and wont do the job if he doesnt think it will work. hides nothing from me. he has rebuilt the box, and the diff he has reset the lsd as before i de-rego'd the car it had become super unpredictable, when before it was always sideways, never one wheeling. so he had a look at that, and said it might of had 5lb on it when he opened, has got it at around 160-170 now, and said it should be pretty f@$kin tight. couldnt say how long it will stay like that, as the lsd design isnt that great, but not that uncommon. he agreed the bearings were still good, as theyd been done in the 4K i had the car on the road, just the pinion bearing was a bit shitty, looked like something had gone through it, and thats exactly what id thought from listening that the pinion bearings needed doing and the rest were good, so a rebuilt box and diff will be ready soon. on the actual car front, new seatbelts have gone in. inside has been put back together. have spoken to qld transport about what i need to do for rego, found a work shop to do the LO1 blue plate. which is the ADR equivant sorta thing, saying it does comply to the standards of the year of manufacture for a australian complied car. so i need to change all the headlights, cause apparently they dip to the left or the right, and obvious these will be the wrong way. so ill swap all the lights, sealed beam, so just buy new ones off the shelf. swap parker lights to clear rather than amber. and then take it down and see what happens from there. once i get my car trailer. which almost needs a thread to itself :glare: questions? :P
  14. lol beerhead, bit worked up mate? merchants make the product available to you to buy, its not parasitic, they provide a service and that is to deliver the goods to the market. all the rest, well yeah, while i don't think i have the same amount of passion as you, it is a gear grind the way the corporations and governments work
  15. as was said, you need to lubricate the under side of the head bolts with copper slip or anti sieze or whatever its called in your town, and i would always go max torque, or a bit over. did you get the head skimmed? if not its likely to let go again in a short period of time, in my opinion, people will argue on this though... you want a set of pushrods? i could pull a set from a motor if you want, just PM me an offer including post :) i know you only spent 7 hours doing it, but maybe in future slow down a bit and you wont end up with bent pushrods, missing thermostats etc cheers, andy
  16. yes yes i do maybe you could PM me? what you can supply etc seal kits off ebay, as you said, shitty malaysian etc copies, made with genuine moulds but terrible materials, and I'm yet to see the 2 door rear quarter window seals.
  17. interested, full seal kit for a 2 door ke70 (te72) would be rather handy ;)
  18. you just wish you could ride a breast
  19. breaking a rocker when doing valve clearances, cause the one time you get a mechanic to do them, the nuts are so tight its ridiculous, then as you re-tighten them, the rocker breaks down the cast join. thanks mechanic... off to fix it now, did it on sunday, nissan got one in ex melbourne by lunch yesterday. atleast thats an upside...
  20. weee :) now you really have my attention, not like i wasnt loving this already :D keep up the awesome progress guys :) cheers, andy :)
  21. mmm i have a pano with a bar on it, has been painted black. no idea what its like underneath. i might look and check the end caps, see if they suit the bar ive got. ill have to do some searching and work out whats what, ive never looked into them cause i never planned on getting chrome bars :lolcry:
  22. i don't have any end caps, i imported brand new bars from denmark or somewhere, but no end caps... if you have a source for good end caps that would rock.
  23. how good are your end caps? or wheres a place to get good end caps? i need some for the bars on my 2 door :)
  24. it was in the workshop, i couldnt get the motor out on saturday when i went there as there were too many cars in the way, and the mechanic wasnt there. both the shells are just about ruins, they had been outside in the open for several months, with sides cut out of them etc, i was a bit pissed to discover the seats and everything were still in the good one, the good seats that is, alternators, flywheels etc, but that doesnt matter. they have apparently drained the motors and flushed them with diesel, but i still wanna get it home, clean the crank and the cams and does the rest with a can of wd40, maybe ill be able to get it on monday. thanks for your offer of helping, but as you said, its just gonna be a salvage job on the shells and then getting rid of them, not much more i can do :) hopefully ill get some form of insurance pay out, but we are not holding our breathe at the moment
  25. yeah, what you said :P driving a modified turbo diesel i learnt very quickly heat = boost seeings as they run what all the time, so i would hate to imagine how laggy this setup would be
