  1. I´m in New Town. What street was the crash? Been a few crashes in New Town lately; been a couple motor cycle accidents where blokes have died. Once in a while a see a honda civic´s around town, but I don´t take any notice whos driving them. The culprit could be from the northern suburbs area, like glenochy or chigwell; around that area.
  2. Well, I've asked around on corona country http://www.turbocreations.com/corona/ and they said the SUs aren't off a corona 1600S, since they don't have the fuel bowls off to the sides. I actually saw a set of twin SU carbs on ebay at the moment from a 76 corona, which had a 18R engine: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 They look similar to mine. I've took the air filters and manifold off:
  3. Got these Aisan Iso SU carbs. The guy that I got it off said they 1.5" SU's from a Datsun, but when I rubbed a bit of grease off they were Aisan instead of Hitachi's. I think they might be off a sports version of a corona, 1600S or mk2 or something. The code on them is HF40D. The bolt pattern per carb to the manifold is triangular (3 bolts, 2 upper 1 lower) The manifold looks like it is heated one. Maybe the SUs were taken off a corona and put in a Datsun. I've search the net and looked in books in the library but can't really find much about them. Does anyone one know what these came out of, and what they are like? Bruce
  4. I think there's things like ammi comprehensive car insurance or something. If the the incident wasn't your fault, and you can get the details from the other car, like number plate, and the persons name, the insurance company can fix your car for you, and you don't have to worry about chasing the other person for the money. The insurance company chases them, and you don't have to pay for excess. I had a mate who backed out of a carpark and hit a passing cars door (camry). It was only minor damage. He said that only a bit of paint from his car went on the other persons door. But the other driver got his details and went to ammi. ammi fixed it all up, and sent him the bill of over $700 labour=$240 paint=$520 The panel beater might of had to spray the whole door to get the colour right. If he does not pay, the debt collectors (tasmania collection service) will be on to him.
  5. I just changed my diff. I replace the whole rear axel (wasn't keen on setting the preload and all that). Had a winding noise in the diff before. When I took it out, it had grindy wheel bearings, and a rough noise coming from the crown wheel and pinon. The new one turns pretty smooth when I rotated it at the companion flang. But when I rotate it, it turns a bit before the axels starts to turn, like there is a little bit of slack. When driving its all fairly quiet, but there is a clunk sound when I start off, or when I'm changing through gears, and sometimes when deaccelerating. Seems like a minor thing, but it is noticeable. Does anyone know what this, and how to fix it? Bruce
  6. They are aftermarket, they say they are exact copies. Are they a pain in, like, you have to bend them a bit to fit, and drill the holes for the bolts etc.? And maybe they wouldn't be in proportion compared to the other panels? I'll keep looking for genuine guards, buts its a bit hard to get a good one
  7. On my visit out at Bridgewater wreckers, I asked if they had any front guards for KE3+ corollas. They didn't have any good ones, but they said they can get brand new steel ones; they have primer, and they are ready for painting. They want $110 for one. Does anyone know where to get brand new guards direct from the maker, locally or (even interstate)? Cutting out the middle man might more cheaper. :)
  8. I had an RACT approved machanic, Jackmans, out at Moonah to have a look at it, and he said that if I could find a diff for it, and him to put it in, it could cost $700. He told me to get a new car  I called up Bridgewater wreckers, and they will sell a KE30 diff for $150 dollars. Might talk him down to $100. Then put it in my self. Wouldn't be too hard do with home tools shouldn't it?
  9. Does anyone have a good quiet differential for a KE30? I've been putting up with a winding noise in the diff for a while. Had it stolen a while ago and they must of worked it hard. A mechanic told me it would cost me $700 to get it replaced (worth more than the car). So I want to find one and put one in my self.
  10. Hey dyzza, What other things are you going to do to make it quieter? Sound proofing by laying mats in the flooring etc. and sound deading the tire wells? I'm going to get my rear wheel bearings replaced this week. I've got a constant winding noise from the right, and a bit on the left.
  11. spose you could just say you did it on the race track. Geez, 200 km/h, how does it run at that speed? Does it cruise smooth, or does it gets the shakes?
  12. What condition are they? Does the passenger side guard have any signs of rust developing, or any dents?
  13. Put the tacho gauge in on the weekend. Put it in where the space is for the clock. I´ve got a 4 speed gearbox in my KE30. At 100 km/hr the rpm is at 4000. Like to put a 5 speed gear box into it to save a bit of fuel, and to have run quieter :P, (have to speak out loudly to hear conversations in the car). I did a plot of rpm versus speed for fun: The relationship is fairly linear, as expected. It will probably plateau out at higher speed. Did not want to go over 110 Km (heaps of speed cameras). :) Has anyone had their corolla flat to the floor to see what max speed it does? :
  14. Hey Rolla_Boy, where abouts do you get the brand new gaurds for KE30s from? Are they fibreglass, or are they pressed out steel? How much are they? :)
  15. G'day, Just made this topic for finding parts locally. Has anyone got a fender (side guard) on the passenger side for a KE30 2dr? Mine has rusted out down the bottom, it was too late when I noticed it because the rust was eating it away from the back. When I took it off the bolts snapped off; I'll have to borer them out. Been looking for one for a while around Hobart, but most wreckers don't have any corollas before 1980, and if they did they had rust and dents in them anyway. Looking for K50 gearbox for a 4K motor. Wreckers are asking over $200 for one. Also I'm looking for interior parts like side kick panels, instrument panel etc. Bruce
  16. I just bought a small tacho from super cheap. It was 50% off. Got it for $25.
  17. 1G-GTE KE70 Did you get your hazard lights fixed? I'm just wondering, mine has got the exactly the same problem, the indecators work but the hazard lights switch does nothing. Did you have to replace the whole indecator/headlights unit thing? Seems like the hazard light switch does not bridge both the indecators together. Its a bit hard to get at the switch to have a look.
  18. Hey Dyzza, I've got a KE30 2 door as well. I'm thinking of putting in a tacho. Did yours fit well in the space left of the speedo, where there is sometimes a clock on other corollas? What tacho do you have?
  19. G'day Rob, I looked on the Meridian Motorsports website for the flares. Are the small flares the copies of the TE27 flares, or are they the larger ones? Let me know if you come across a K50 gear box. I've asked a couple of wreckers and they want $300 or more. Bit too much I reckon.
  20. Saw a white KE25 coupe outside woolworths in sandybay last Saturday, with P-plates up. Had the newer toyota badge on the grill. Don't really see many KE25s around much.
  21. G'day, I'm from Hobart. I've got a 2dr KE30. It hasn't got any modifications. Its got a 4K engine with a K40 gear box. I'm thinking of putting a T50 gear box in it some time next year; save a bit of petrol on the open road with the extra gear. Then when I earn a bit more money, I want to put in a 4A-GE/4A-GZE engine.
