HRV-00S Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 (edited) Hey hey, whats up everyone This is a bit of a quick intro, names Dan been kickin around here for a bit since I got my new rolla. It was supposed to be a cheap daily that I could have some fun with. I sold my ute that I'd rebuilt over 3 years from the ground up for something a bit more family friendly and that doesn't need to be washed every couple of days, but it hasn't turned out that way, but for all the little and large problems i wouldn't swap it for the world, well maybe a large tropical island. :bash: This is what I ended up with 84 KE70 wagon 4agte & T50 5spd Cut & shut intake manifold/plenum Home made? exhaust manifold vl high flowed T3/T4 Turbo @ 15psi vl turbo front mount & radiator (was held in with zip ties ) GFB basic BOV Autronic ecu Lift pump, 1ltr surge tank, vl turbo pump, regulator & bigger fuel lines Full 3 inch exhaust from turbo back, resonator & straight through 3 inch muffler Tacho dash Boost gauge Lowered with flipped leaves in rear & cut springs in front? Ex owner claimed 200rwkw @ 20psi? we'll see Rest of the car will remain standard untill I can aford to upgrade stopping and turning Flew to Melbourne from Sydney and drove it home almost 10 hour's and it never missed a beat, until a week later when it started blowing smoke, The rest is down there VVVV Got stuck in to the wagon over the last few days got the engine out for a rebuild and started stripping it down, except for the fly wheel bolts only got three out with the rattle gun but the rest wouldn't budge, Have tried every thing but to no avail, doesn't help that the heads where in pretty poor shape to start with. So I'm going to leave that for the engineer to deal with. For now I've just tided up some of the dodge wiring in the engine bay and covered it up with the split conduit stuff. I also started pulling what i could off the motor and was surprised to find no cam bearings? I assume this is how it's supposed to be, I wont be going all out on the engine just what it needs plus maybe get the rods shot pend(spelling?), the bottom end balanced and a general tidy up of the ports/manifolds as well as a fresh coat of paint but can't decide on the colours. Should i play it safe with black and silver or add some colour? will have to put my beer cap umm i mean thinking cap on Started to remove some cancer to and decided to mould some custom all be it a bit ghetto fiber glass flares to accommodate some fat rubber later on. Any way that's all i can be stuffed typing for now Here's a few random pics of the progress so far Enjoy Harvo Edited December 28, 2007 by HRV-00S Quote
blacktopspirit Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Seems your pimping your self on as many forums as I do :bash: (I'm a member of 6 but only visit 3, I just now realized how much of a NERD i really am) When it comes to paint I am a firm believer in keeping the original color, you always get better results keeping the original color, unless you strip the body and interior and do it 110%. Looks good and good work so far P.S. I'll swap your Autronic with my EMS Stinger, yeah! good deal yeah!!! Quote
Jono Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 are you colour coding to that bit of silicone hose? Quote

The wagon is pretty pimpin :fuzz: I wish i was a nerd, cushy job behind a desk lookin at porn all day :bash: This car doesn't deserve 110% just the motor, will switch to a sedan one day but I hear what your saying, this was my first and last attempt at an engine bay P.S. Autotune FTW, the Autronic is awesome are you colour coding to that bit of silicone hose? Nah mate the TRD floor mats :y: and the rest of the interior is kinda blue Cheers Dan Quote
HRV-00S Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 Okay a bit of an up date Everything is ready to go engine wise I'm just waiting on Castle Hill Toyota to get back to me with prices for the bits I need to rebuild the engine. Other then that It's all been painted and polished so it looks the goods. Still need to find a clutch at the right price and replace the front and rear seals in the box, also need to run some wires to the box for the reverse lights, the intake manifold has a crack on one of the welds where it has been cut and shut. After taking the motor out After a couple tins of degrease and some pressure pack Quote
HRV-00S Posted July 15, 2007 Author Report Posted July 15, 2007 Ok, the motor's back from the machine shop it's been balanced, bored and honed. I assembled my rods and pistons today while the wife was out, could only imagine what she'd say if she seen me boiling the pistons in one of her sauce pans  also checked the oil clearance for the mains, all good so lubed up the crank and bolted it into place. I have a long weekend this week so should be able to get the bottom end back together along with all the other shit that hangs off the block. Should get the head back in a week or two ready to bolt on. So if all goes to plan I should be back on the road in no time :D A couple of things I've been playing with lately Quote
HRV-00S Posted August 5, 2007 Author Report Posted August 5, 2007 (edited) Motors going back together nicely but still waiting for the head :D also been busy fixing all the dodgy stuff and trying to make everything fit. Got my self a perma-cool remote oil filter kit, cause there's f@#k all room with the low mount turbo, I wouldn't want to even try getting the little bastard off. I'm not to sure about where to mount the new oil filter because it's about 4x the size of the original 4a filter. Thinking about putting it in behind the passenger side strut tower, will fit but only just and will need a bracket made up. Where does everyone else run there's? I did a search but no love. Someone has to have a better set up. mmm can't wait to have some fun with this :o Striped the thick black paint of the fmic, now it's to shiny. I'll give it a LIGHT coat of flat black :no2: Made some brackets to replace the zip ties to secure the radiator Not pretty, but it works :) ( :y: Flat black fixes all) Edited August 13, 2007 by HRV-00S Quote
HRV-00S Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 All righty, finally making some progress with this thing hope to have it running buy the end of next week, depending on how long it takes the local Toyota to get me a new CTS after mine broke on the way back in. It's like trying to put a sleeping bag back into it's cover, you know it fits but damn what a bitch to get in there :locked: does any one know if the number stamped on the CTS (coolant temp sensor) out of the housing on the back of the head the part No.? The guy's at the local Toyota are a bit dull and not to help full. Well here she is in all her glory Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Cool car, although its not a sleeper with a bonnet like that. Quote
HRV-00S Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 Yeah mate, not going to run with the bonnet scoop just put it on there cause I was bored one day Quote

If so did you pull the studs out and put bolts in. Quote

Why not? ;) Not sure if it's FWD or RWD I think it's the RWD bit longer are they? and are the studs in the block? cause mines bolted on, Don't recall seeing any studs, why do they need to be changed over anyway? clearance issues? My water pump Also took the radiator to get pressure tested and $150 bucks later it's not leaking like a sieve. Went to the local Toyota to get a new CTS after mine broke off when fitting the, they quoted me $130.00 and 6 weeks to get here from japan :D Got a new Bosch unit for $22 Quote

Yeah RWD is longer, Nah the studs are where the fan bolts to, I was thinkin of removing the studs from mine and getting some nice chrome dome nuts. RWD on the left. HRV-00S Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Yeah the pulley has bolts too, and with pulleys like those you'd want nice shiny button top bolts, pricey tho when I rebuilt my ute with the stainless steel allen key bolts they cost me a small fortune. Quote
