olskool Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 I really am hoping so. Gonna take a couple days off work so I can get as much work as I can done to it. Quote
olskool Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, it has been a while since I have posted cause I have been flat out. As you should know the engine is in my car with gearbox and a custom gearbox crossmember, so just to quickly update here are some pics. And here is the gearbox crossmember powdercoated. Now considering I have been flat out, I have actually got a fair bit done. I have finally completed my custom inlet manifold and I have also organised all the parts for my diff. So again here are some pics for you all to see. I sourced out the flange which is 13mm thick, so while I weld the manifold to the flange there will be less warping in the plate. I began by making the runners and they started out like this, the exact same shape as the port size and shape. I just simply made two halves (and I made plenty of these for the other sections of the runners) and then welded them together. I then cut the single length into 4 equal pieces and ground back the weld and sanded it to fit inside the flange. My plan was to taper out the ends of the runners to allow air flow easier into the head. So using the other extra halves that I made, I cut angles on them to start the taper. This is what they ended up like. I then cut some more aluminium to fit inside the gap and welded that up to completely produce the taper. I then made a plate to suit the end of the runners and cut out the holes with a plasma and then welded them on the insides to make a smoother flow of air once die grinded back. I also welded on the outside of the runners to ensure a whole seal and no leaks. Then I began making the inlet plenum, again with a taper which was smaller towards the back few cylinders. The reason behind this was because the throttle body is at the front of the plenum, which means the first two cylinders will be getting the air quicker than the back two, which therefore leads to the front two cylinders lean out. By tapering the plenum smaller towards the back the pressure increases at the back and evening out the amount of air going to all cylinders. Edited August 8, 2008 by olskool Quote

Johnjimo Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 The worst part about this conversion, is that I have to hear about it every day at TAFE, and see everything, which sucks, because I WANT A COROLLA. I actually called some guy yesterday, and am going to look at a car with Wayne next weekend. Or he could just give me his. HAHA. Wayne does weld well too. He pretty much does my welding at TAFE, that's why I get such awesome marks. Cheers Quote
