How To Improve My Corollas Power?

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, i am very new to this forum stuff, so please help me out along the way.

I have a 1991 toyota corolla hatch AE94. The engine for my car is a 4A-FE. The problem is I'm starting to get a little bored  so i would like to know how to increase the power of my car, even if its just a little. Hopefully getting the extra power with out putting a new engine (e.g. 4A-GE) or a turbo set up in my car. I am very happy with my car, just want a little more power. I don't have very deep pocket either :D still a student and work part time. All your input will be very appreciated. thanks

theres not mutch you can do really

pod filter and like 1.75 or 2 inch exhaust

yep thats about it, my girlfriend has an immaculate ae92 with a 4afe just has 2 inch sports system into a 4 inch cannon

by the way don't bother with a pod filter unless you wana make some crazy sort of carbie cold air induction pipe.... just get a high flow circular one to sit in the standard air box on top of the carby... if you can find one

4age conversions are so easy in these anyway so save a few grand and put some work into it, youl be happy

yep efi. what u guys think bout putting a custom air induction in. i was thinking bout geting big pipes and run it from the front bodykit and connect it stratight to the air box. it'dd be a cheap way to get a lil more power, all i gota do is buy the pipe. also how much extra power do u think id get.

thats the problem man, can't drive turbo or supercharged for anothr 2yrs. so jus tryin to find a little more power a different way. thanks for all da replys by the way

Getting bored eh. Do some suspension work and go around corners faster, Its more rewarding catching cars on the corners than on the straight when they know your car has less power.

Play with adjustable sway bars and wheel alignment settings too, Makes a huge difference but be careful.

i agree susp mods are the key, would be a good way for a new driver like yourself to pick up some more driving skill too..

If you decide to go 4age i would sell the car and buy a twinky or sx, they are so cheap these days

I don't think the car will require a mod plate or engineers report if you do go for a 4age. Its still efi, the same capacity, and a 4a series engine. The department of transport should allow you to just change the number. Thus avoiding the non-modified clause for new P-Platers.

I know you said you do not want to go 4age but honestly, in your situation, I certainly wouldn't ask you to mod the 4afe. 4ages are a nice fun revvy drivers motor. They also have a massive selection of cams, head accessories, extractors, and just plainly more you can do with them. There is a huuuuuuuuuuuge aftermarket, and if you do cams in one then it will not even look modified.

yeh true. i was actually thinkin bout conversion now that ive got all this info from everyone. I was asking bout getting a silver top conversion done but quite a few people just told me to get a 4age small port instead. they said there will be less cost and headaches as well and not very much power difference between the two. what do you guys think.
