hey guys,

recently i have been having this rather nut case idea of stuffing the M42 engine out of my BMW that i am wrecking into my ke11.. now i think it is a wierd combination and didnt think it would fit but took to it with a measuring tape the other week and all seemed like it would fit in..

now the engine itself is a 1.8ltr Dohc 16V bmw engine which would give the old 11 a bit of poke to it and from intial enquiries it would be a legal conversion..

now i generally am not one to go for different engine outside the toyota family but this engine has some decent power and is just sitting there at my place and it powered my 1300 odd Kg Bmw quite well and I'm sure it would be alot better in the corolla..

Now the question is would this be a stupid conversion to undertake and should i just stuff in a 5k and be done with it or as my original plan was to get a 4age in there..

Cheers

Matt

id do it, sounds good

well my main concern with it was not the fitting of it as thats the simple part but more to the fact that people may view it as ruining a classic.. but more or less it would be the only thing non- original in my ke-11 build up as i have already got the interior re-trimmed to OEM standard etc:

i just thought i would think outside the square as it is an engine i already have (don't need to buy another engine) and it would out perform the 4age on any day really IMHO (preparing to be flamed by 4age lovers).

Cheers

matt stop caring what other people are gonna think

once its done all the haters will be impressed no matter what, and ull be happy with it. some people just like living in the dark ages, nothing wrong with putting a nice new motor in a classic :y:

It'd be different, thats for sure. Although remember parts will probably be uber-expensive (use of German deliberate). BMW-heads used to throw them in 2002s all the time, which is a car of similar age and weight to a KE1x, although a bit bigger.

Hey, as long as it goes quick and puts a smile on your dial, that's all us true modifiers care about... I'd go for it... if you got it there, it'd be a waste not to try it and see...

As long as you tell us all how much fun you're having with it.

Sounds like a lethal combination.........

I say Go for it Matt...Should make for a FUN drive

Make sure you let us know how you're going with it...

What does the engine weigh? Sometimes a huge engine might appear attractive, but taking into consideration the extra weight up front etc could be wise before you get too far down the track. Burnouts/drifting etc might be a bit different, but if you like the way your ke corners now, adding extra weight may not improve that, but hey, it would be different and the sound would keep people guessing, for sure!!!!!

Its not like the ke1xs are that rare, just do it.... Sure, they're not a common occurence like an XD, but hell theres been reasonable ones on ebay every second week, as well as multiple for sale on here and ausrotary.

Do it, and do it well, and noone will care. But, if you went and chopped up a ke17 SL Sprinter and did this, we'd probably shoot you! haha.

Keen to see how it pans out.

Sounds interesting, go for it.

You will probably need to open up the trans tunnel. Also you'll most likely need to fit bigger brakes and bigger wheels to fit over them to get it engineered. Then you'll need to look into the suspension as the car will be even more front heavy than normal. The weight distribution on a ke1x is 53/47 F/R in standard form.

still going to look into this and figure out what i may need to do to fit it and research it alot before i attempt anything on it..

also does anybody know the weight of a standard ke11??

cheers
