This is my new beast. 1974 corolla, 1 owner, all books, no rust, dead straight, 3k engine. Picked up for $1500.

I have plans to put simmons rims on her but am needing some input to what needs to be done to get a 4age into it. Also what gearbox and what brake and suspension upgrade would be best for a track/road car.

 

Help would be apreciated, or even links to posts. I have money to play around and want to do things right the first time round.

dude you have to keep it standard, il buy it off ya for 3g, and you ship it to New Zealand. haha.

 

But really keep it standard, They are worth more with standard engine. Sack it on some good rims, do some head and carb work. Thats all.

I have to agree about keeping it original mate....

 

It is the cleanest KE20 i've seen around for a while.

 

My vote for 13"/14" rims, whitewalls, Polished hubcaps, venetians and engine/carb work......

 

And keep the Granny visor for sure.

 

It will only increase in value then

 

Thats just my 2 cents worth.....at the end of the day, it's your choice though

Yes it's a much easier conversion and plenty more options for upgrades (Brakes/Diff/Suspension)

Also there's a lot more KE70's left than KE20's

I get what everyone says. I am torn weather to leave her stock. The interior and exterior will remain. The interior has never been touched. I do want to get some venetians and would like to know where I can get them. At the same time I really love driving and using all my cars I have owned. My last car was a stock Mazda Familia GTX. A 100kW 4age in a 700kg car is just so so apealing. I'm not at all a hoon but the 3k is heavy on juice and pings all day long. Especially with a couple of big people in it. I def. want to upgrade the brakes and suspension. ANy help there would be handy. Such as what struts, rotors and calipers on the front? Adjustable? Stiff leaf springs on the back? DIff? Also anti roll bars? Engine if it hapens will come last but I will be dumping it lower on some simmons rims.

my 2c.....don't touch a thing on it.....whack it in the garage under a sheet and only bring it on sundays.....

when you convert to 4age you add a lot more weight. mine ended up being 850kg. if you go a w box and good diff upgrade you probably push it up towards 900kg.

 

its your car - do what YOU want. there is more to life than the resale value of a car

 

my car would be a lot easier to sell if i'd left it standard and i wouldn't have lost any money, BUT its a LOT more fun to drive around in an old school car which actually has balls.

Can you get much out of the 3k engine? It seems like a lost cause, tho I havent owned a car this old before. What sort of head and carb work is needed?

 

Where do I get vanetians?

 

I also need to source some badges for the sides as they have been ripped off.

Trav whats cracking. I been meaning to tell you to get some pics up on this site.

 

Drop a 4K in at least. There's a couple around, I can hook you up with, let me get the feelers out.

 

The reason no one saw it advertised it never got advertised. Bloke at work was telling me about it, I told him to call me if he ever wanted to sell it. His mum owned it from new, so trav is a legit 2nd owner.

 

It is in top nick, I nearly bought it for that reason, but hooked Trav up with it. It had a new topcoat (same colour) put on it 15 years ago, and apart from one small ding, minor pitting on the chrome, and the fact that someone pilfered the SE badges of the quarters, the body is unreal. Front seats are a bit torn and the dash is cracked and thats about it.

 

Don't butcher it man. And remember who gets first dibs on it when you get bored of it haha.
