March 2, 200917 yr comment_323878 as above. from what i understand water to air is a lot better and more compact than air to air. if this is the case then why????? are air to air the more common? Report
March 2, 200917 yr comment_323882 Less weight in an air to air setup. Water to air can be complex and has more to go wrong. Report
March 2, 200917 yr Author comment_323889 well air to air is more simple but you have a larger pressure drop also they are huge!! so this = cutting? water air is more compact. although yes more to go wrong. but no more things to go wrong than your radiator? miniture rad with mini thermo plumbed into a little barrel which you air passes through. any other reasons?? cost about the same. March 2, 200917 yr comment_323923 Both of my brothers cars are running water to air systems. They are much more expensive once you factor in electric water pump custom radiator intercooler itself water pipes, hoses ect. One of my brothers setups had no change from $1500, the other cost closer to $1000. They are often physically very large in an engine bay, a lot of 4 cyl cars probably don't have the room. Report
March 2, 200917 yr comment_323928 The PWR inline water to air intercoolers work very well and are compact. Report
March 2, 200917 yr comment_323952 I guy i do work for has water to air on his van. It's set up a bit ghetto but probably would have been cheap. The cooler itself came with the motor (1G-GTE) and it has the water pushed round with a cheap 12v bilge pump through a transmission cooler out the front. It works ok but whether it would be better than an air to air i don't know.. Report
March 3, 200917 yr Author comment_324170 yeah the barrel type ones i've been looking at are quite compact! and also the radiators are quite small. mount in front of your normal one. with the thermo on front and a thermo on the rear. soo yeah i never looked at price but 1000 seems worth it. a good intercooler would cost 500+ then you've got your plumbing. also the cutting away on grills and valences etc wouldn't be needed. sooo main issues are price and complexity? so if price isn't an issue which would be the better one to go with... bearing in mind about cutting away at things and ninja spec? March 3, 200917 yr Author comment_324172 http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.ph...21f38675548b096 here add the better water pump and a better cooler.. the barrel type and the filler neck etc. and for under $500 you've got a full kit! Report
March 4, 200917 yr comment_324415 The heat soak of the water to air will be too much. If you have to put a radiator up from you may aswell put a FMIC. Doesnt have to be big. 300 x 300 (or close to) would be fine Report
March 4, 200917 yr comment_324583 I reckon water to air is the go for drag and drifting where the vehicle is subject to fairly extreme punishment for short periods. Air to air is the go for circuit racing where air flow is more consistent and duration of abuse is longer. Report
March 4, 200917 yr comment_324589 You can decrease lag dramatically with a water to air system and the pwr kit we just fitted to a car at work is good enough for 600hp :| Report
March 5, 200917 yr Author comment_324790 right! thats what i've started to realise. water to air better for quick burst sorta cars. but for an everyday sorta application the air to air will be better. 300x300 will be ok you reckon cuzzo? thats pretty small! Report
March 10, 200917 yr comment_326397 http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic139640-0-0-asc-.php theres some serious reading for you. quite interesting prospect and some big names getting behind it. Report
March 11, 200917 yr comment_326781 Your on the money. A track car will need an air to air for it's light weight setup and thermal efficiency at speed, but they suffer heat soak at low speed and sitting at the traffic lights. A water to air is a drag racers best friend, use pure ethyl glycol and store a 5L drum of it in your freezer. Keep it in the esky in the back seat and the radiator for the intercooler empty. Fill it up in the pits before your 1/4 mile pass :) You really should have a map tuned for it though. Almost no heatsoak if you run an aftermarket ecu to trigger the coolant pump at a set speed. right! thats what i've started to realise.water to air better for quick burst sorta cars. but for an everyday sorta application the air to air will be better. 300x300 will be ok you reckon cuzzo? thats pretty small!
