Stixy Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 I don’t think I have ever been asked a question so many times when people ask me if I’m going to put a 4AGE or a 3SGE, “why would you put a Hilux donk in an AE71” Good point. So after hours of research and a few helpful words of wisdom I have come to the conclusion that a 3RZ-FE (2.7 ltr, 4cyl) Hilux motor is the one for my old girl. Plans: basically I will be aiming to make a quick, reliable streeter that will occasionally see the odd strip run an maybe a power cruse or two. Backing up to the 3RZ will be a W58 box with strengthened 1st 2nd 3rd so hopefully we don’t have too much stripping, Dog gears would have been nice but after talking to a few people it at various transmission specialists it seems it is very hard to get them for the w58. From the box to the diff I will be looking into getting an aftermarket tail shaft, as for the diff i am still undecided, I have been told to just go with the Tarago diff but I have also been told to go with a Hilux diff..... As for stoppage and handling I am really really unsure, I was going to go with the s13 Silvia front en gear but as it widens the front end track of your car I have opted out for this setup, I don’t really want to drift it so the Silvia gear is out the windy man. I have been thinking of maybe upgrading the front calipers and converting some AE86 struts to coilovers or then again I might just speak to the guys at AJPS....... Bushing will all be replaced and new superpro urethane bushes will be pressed back in place along with new wheel bearings. The 3rz will be getting all new internals with forged rods an pistons an while I'm down there the big end bearings will be replace too, valves and valve spring will all be upgraded as well, I will be looking at running a nice sized front mount intercooler (nothing wanky that says “look at me I have a turbo” and doesn’t attract too much heat). All my creature comforts/interior will stay the way with the addition of a couple of gauges an a nice pair of seats. Progress: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

SLW42 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 Very nice choice of engine mate, the 3rz's are very under rated for what they are, as curly has proved and many people before him i'd imagine have proved they are a very capable motor, best of luck with it all, i wouldn't mind coming to have a wee sticky beak at this when you have the motor in the car. Best of luck, oh and for a diff selection have you ever considered a ef/el falcon diff? That is what i will be using in my ca18det ke70, all you would need to do would be to shorten the diff, as they already have disk brakes and a handbrake cable so you have the best of both worlds all in one diff :) . From what i understand the 3rzfe is a 2.7L then + a turbo 3RZ-FE The 3RZ-FE is a 2.7 L (2693 cc) I4 version built in Japan. Bore is 95 mm and stroke is 95 mm. Output is 150 hp (112 kW) at 4800 RPM with 177 ft·lbf (240 N·m) of torque at 4000 RPM. This engine features twin, chain-driven balance shafts. It has four valves per cylinder and DOHC.
