OMG, the Datto1200 ute lives on!!!

Nissan Bakkie

Not many cars can boast the indestructibility that the Nissan 1400 bakkie can. With a 47kW engine linked to an economical 5-speed gear box, as well as, the maximum torque of 97 Nm, this car just never dies.

Rear wheel drive distributes power where it is needed so you can load it up and cruise along for hours and still have enough petrol to do it again.

LOL :n:

Rolln: Yup, brand new ute. Except, like, it's pretty much a Datsun 1200 ute. They've just "kept with the times" and updated it, and they're still selling it as a "new model" over there. I wonder what other cars they sell over there?

I wonder what engine it does run? I'd be guessing maybe it's an EFI version of the A14? Much like the way Toyota put EFI on the 7K?

Had a look around, it appears the Nissan Bakkie (B140) is powered by an A14. No idea if it's EFI or not though. The Datsun 1200's over there got the facelift and bigger engine in 1982.

They currently come with 5 speed gearbox, 3.9:1 diff, higher roof, bucket seats, etc. Sales figures are approx 2500 a month. Shite, that's a popular ute!!!

Apparently, the Datsun 1200 ute was also sold in New Zealand up until about 1988, badged "Roadstar". They apparently came with an A15 and a 5 speed box, gawd that thing must have hauled!!!

Had a Corolla hire car in South Africa 5 years ago and it had a carbed 1300 engine (and no it wasn't a 4K). Emmission standards, speed laws, drink driving, seat belts etc are a lot more relaxed over there.

Its actually freaky driving as it is the responsability of the slow car to get out of the way of the car behind. Makes for some interesting moments :n:

Nick, that wasn't the 1/4 mile time, it was the 0-100km/h time. way slow.

Uh huh... And scarily enough, it appears to have more power than Pinky had! Pinky was dynoed at 32hp at the wheels, which I suppose would maybe roughly equate to about 32kW at the fly... The Bakkie has 47kW!!! :n:
