timbo Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 cheers terry, will hit you and matt up once i get the car back. semi trailer story goes: i was travelling inbound on the centenary highway just after the centenary bridge where the bend at figtree pocket goes around to the right. i was in the right hand lane just on the approach to the start of the bend in the road when a semi with a three axle flatbed trailer snaked into my lane. as the concrete divider was to my right and the road was pretty wet from the constent rain we had before the floods, i had absolutely no where to go and not enough space to brake in time. the back end of the trailer collected the front LHS on my car and i got stuck between the two rear axles and was dragged along for roughly 20-25~ metres. just before the apex i somehow became unstuck, i guess as the trailer was straightening up, and realised it has smashed my steering rack so i had no other choice than to tap the brakes and let the car slide across both lanes into the gravel and armco on the left hand shoulder. luckily there wasn't anyone else directly behind me. worst part is the truck nor anyone else stopped. tow truck rocked up pretty quick (as they do...) and was towed to their holding yard at sumner park. the following monday the car was towed to crawford smash repairs where it has been since. almost a month later the parts have finally arrived and the car is on the mend. i made a police report and tried to get cctv footage from tmr but the camera which would have captured the whole thing was facing the other way... so i'm left with a $750 excess and the shit fight that is insurance and their half arse work ethic when it comes to import cars which they apparently specialise in. i spoke to the assessor at crawford yesterday (nice people) and discovered that there is a crack in the chassis rail which he believes was previously there, which could be true as the car had been involved in an incident previously (most likely track related). however i don't think ruling out the latest incident as the cause is completely fair, even though they are going to weld it up for me. he did make the comment that he thinks the wheel alignment will be difficult as a result, but here is where my luck starts to turn around, well sort of! if they can't align it then it will become their problem as i got an alignment done one day prior to the accident and have the copy on the specs infront of me, all quite aligned! B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Can't believe no one stopped. And I feel your pain about insurance people. Ay least your getting yours fixed. They looked at mine and said Nah, here's some money keep the car. Though I did get 400 more than I paid for it. Quote
KEhendo Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 even if they are having alignment problems surely there are enough ae86 specific adjustable suspension components to get everything straight again. welcome to the club btw. Quote
