coln72 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Loved it when I was holidaying in SA in 2000 and our toyota hire car looked like it still had a carby. Quote
Spencer[RL] Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Up on the reef you loose %15-20 of your power , unless it's forced induction . Quote
Teddy Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 That is Fantastic =D I LOVE reading about other variant car clubs similar to ours from around the globe ! Would be grand to travel around the world and meet you all someday ! Â Looks like you guys have quite a following, epic ! Â After spending several years working on the problem-riddled south african built ZZE122/3 corolla's, i thought it would be a fantastic trip to see the build factory and explore the town of Durban. Mind you, any excuse to visit South Africa is a good one : ) Â Cheers for joining RC, glad to have you here : ) ! Â T Quote
Spencer[RL] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) The best selling toyota in South Africa would have to be a model called the "tazz" Â For about R80000 ( $10000 ) you can pick them up brand new, they are bulletproof ! Edited January 11, 2012 by Spencer Quote
kickn5k Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) Ah South Africa. Have only seen footage of the country from downhill MTB vids. Definatly somewhere I'd love to visit. Looks amazing. Go Greg Minnar!!! BTW welcome to Rollaclub!!! Stu. Edited January 11, 2012 by kickn5k Quote

Still a good effort tho  Let me cast your eyes onto this bit of german meat Its called the City Golf (miniature golf) Same price range as the Tazz , Its the south african most common rice burner. 7shades Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 I love this about Africa. Â If people are still buying it, keep building it. Â A certain Peugeot springs to mind :P Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 They've given up the Datsun 1400 bakkie, which was a shame. Do they still make the Mk1 Golf? Â They have some great local variants of cars. The V8 Sierra was a SAF classic, as was the Capri V8. Quote
coln72 Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 There was also the Chevrolete Firenza Can Am.   Looky  Think very early Torana with a 5Lt V8 :blinks: Quote
20V Screeamer Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 thanks for the welcome guys... Â @ spencer... yeah man, guys at the reef think toyo's are a joke but get the shock of their lives when they see a lower powered toyo taking out turbo cars on the coast. Â We were also denied alot of performance model toyo's in SA. No AE86, supras, celica, levins,mk1 and 2 MR2 and import laws prohibit " importing second hand vehicles" . There are a few loop holes but will cost you an arm and a leg , theres also alot of conmen so its not worth the hassle. Â only performance engines introduced to SA were the 2T trd ke70, series1,2,3 twincam 16V, 20V BT, 2zzge. oh and the Auris TRD was just launched in SA, 1600 supercharged but still not enough to play with the VAG cars. 20V Screeamer Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 mk1 golf ceased production in 2008. thank goodness. i hate that car. But the power capabilties are endless on the mk 1 golf. common street conversions are 2lt 8V, 2lt 16V, 1.8lt 20v. no matter how fast your car is, there always a faster golf. a friend of mine has got a 2lt 16v turbo 1 and it makes 363 wkw. best time of 11.2 on the 400m. fully street legal, not gutted or anything. Spencer[RL] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 1 of the most notorious cars to rome the streets back there is no doubt the Fiat Uno Turbo ,rarely seen ( all been writin off) but known for smashing M3's , AMG's , WRX , Evo's :laff: Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FZch7SEfIA Quote
20V Screeamer Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 this is the corolla RSi produced between 1997-1998 20V BT 5 fwd c56 box, a/c, power steering, abs. NO central locking, elec windows, leather etc. Quote
