Rolla__Boy Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 You have the same grill in yours as my KE35...they are hard to find. I like them alot better. You do good work. I am still going ahead with the commodore radiator like you did, hopefully THAT will keep my shit heap cool. Love this thread and all the pics and info in it. :D Keep up the good work Quote
NickZ Posted April 19, 2006 Author Report Posted April 19, 2006 Did the compression test this morning, Thankgod its all good #1,2,3 are 230 and #4 is 225. But the #4 plug was clean nice and white but #1,2,3 Where black from being rich, Now why didnt the tuner check the plugs if it was pinging to see if it was running lean. This is also the cause of the back fire iut the throttlebody as the poor plug would have been glowing after a hard rev and and fuel igniting when the valve opend for the fuel intake. so out with the injectors and another $135 for a clean and not a flow test beacuse Tassie is backward and nobody has the adapters for the side feed injectors for a toyota, So after work i fitted the injectors and it is now running ok'ish and thats because the fuel and timing map has been messed with so much it runs bad. i drove it around the block and it didnt seem to be pinging now. Ive got a map coming from another 20V that will get me back on the way soon i hope. Quote
eviltwin Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 thats crap man, give it to a suposed pro and they cause more issues. Quote

anastasios Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 hey man i was wondering if you had any pics of the rear ride height with the current setup?? Quote
NickZ Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 Ok here is a update, I usualy tune these things myself and i had it going nice before i took it there it was just the 6000-8000rpm end i wanted done. But when i got the car back all the setting had been changed, i thought i had them all back the way they where but i still run like shit, wouldnt idle smooth and pinged bad. Well today i went to do some checking, someone had asked if maybe it had jumped a tooth on the timing, I couldnrt get any less than about 25 deg at idle when i checked the timing today, he was right, Infact it had jumped 2 teeth on the crank, both cams where in the right places. I noticed the the induction noise was alot louder, i just thought it was me having to put the boot into it a bit harder. No wonder the poor thing was running shit. Now i have fixed the timing and its running sweet again, i still have to do the 6000-8000rpm and I'm taking it to another tuner tomorrow for that. But how hard did the dickhead that was dyno tuning it rev the engine to make it jump 2 teeth. So thanks to the people that tried to help and may we all learnt something. if your 20V starts running like shit for no real reason you know of, check the timing belt. Quote
NickZ Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 anastasios : no i havent got any pics, but its not that low there would be 20mm between the tire and the guard now as I'm after a handling car Quote
Tiger Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 Jumped 2 teeth on the crank? WTF??? Poor 20V... life hasnt been easy on it! Well, seeing this thread is good to see that it ain't always roses on conversions and that you will be subject to headaches as such. Hang in there dude... just keep up the progress... and remember (rubs earlobes) WOOSAAAAH!!! :P Quote
Fraggle Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Good luck with it all nickz and you are right about Tassie no good tuners thats why I still have a stock XR6 Turbo :lmao: Quote
NickZ Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 My car is now fully tuned and running well. its reving well to 7500rpm and the VVT gomes on like hitting 7 psi boost at 4100rpm. But the fuel pump now seems to be a problem. I think thats why its having a little trouble getting the full 8000rpm, sometimes it will pull hard to 7500 in first and second and to about 7000 in third and it just goes flat, it just doesnt flow enough. Ive got my eye on a bosch 910 efi pump should fix that problem. Oh and second gear in the box is almost unselectable, i need to be letting out the clutch as i select 2nd for it to pop in. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Good to hear its almost sorted :P If my conversion skills were as good as yours, my sprinter would already be running. But such is life, sometimes you have to learn the hard way ;) Quote
NickZ Posted May 21, 2006 Author Report Posted May 21, 2006 (edited) Just thought id add some pictures. I fitted a rear sway bar. Some air cleaners. and some advertising :) Edited July 17, 2006 by NickZ Quote
NickZ Posted May 21, 2006 Author Report Posted May 21, 2006 I belive its the stock diff, one axle makes a small bearing noise but other than that it handles the power ok for now. But I'm still struggling with the gearbox, i had trouble down changing back to second gear after i put oil in, i found that i had overfilled it and that was the problem. But at 8000rpm it wont go up any gears now with less oil, i just can't win. and after today putting in the new bosch 910 fuel pump also as the old one couldnt flow enough fuel, at 7880rpm (thats when i changed gear according to the Microtech) in 3rd gear is 140kmh, when i was racing at simmonsplanes with the old motor i was pushing 170kmh up the back straight in 5th, Now I'm sure i can easy go over that now, still got 2 more gears to make 30kmh+ :) :) so next sunday night ill give you all a update or that day i could be a father for the second time as the 28th was the due date for my son. I wonder if he will have anything to do with cars. :D :( :P :P (my 6 year old daughter loves the cars too, Always wants to go fast) Quote
