What are the options that we have to upgrade a KE20/25 front suspension.

 

1. Which crossmembers can we use, KE30 or KE70 or KP61??

2. What are the shortest LCAs that can be used on a KE20?? Are there any shorter than KE70??

 

I am busy designing a rack & pinion setup for my car. I have installed a starlet rack in but as it is wider therefore bumpsteer issues

 

Temporary fix - Drop the car as much as possible - Less movement less bumpsteer. Currently drives excellent on flat roads with small bumps.

Out of all the crossmembers I have seen, the ke30 looks the easiest swap.

 

My current track width is

 

R LCA + L LCA + Inter LCA distance = 320mm + 320mm + 493mm = 1133mm

 

 

If I use a KE30 crossmember with KE70 LCAs

 

300+300+520 = 1120mm (1.3 cm Narrower)

 

OR

 

If I use a KE30 crossmember with KE30 LCAs

 

310+310+520 = 1140mm (0.7 cm wider)

 

Would any of these be a better start in rack and pinion conversion??

What is the distance between the inner LCA pivot points on a KE30??

 

I think 520mm is incorrect??

My ke25 has ke30 crossmember LCAs and balljoints. Works out pretty nice with 40mm RCAs, ae86 struts and ae86 power steering arms. From memory some very minimal tweaking of the crossmember mounting holes was all that was required.

There really is no need to go ke30 crossmember. It's too wide and has zero advantage over the ke20/25 crossmember..

 

Just use standard crossmember and Lca's, Ke70 rack with rack ends shortened and that's all you'll really need to do. Rack position can fix bump steer as can rca's. You more need to be aware of its position in or out and its potential effect on binding.

You can also redrill the cross member to reposition the the lca's
