  1. It covers any spectators or non-competing people that you might injure while competing. For example if for some reason you lost control of your car and went through a crowd of spectators. The normal CTP in Queensland (which stands for Compulsory Third Party) covers injuries to people you injure, but NOT if you are competing in a competition. Hence you need an extension (which doesn't really make any sense to me, it's a stupid idea), so that the CTP will cover you while you are competing. Without this, if you injure anyone while competing, YOU are liable for their injuries. As you can probably imagine, this can turn to very large suckiness very quickly. And then if this did happen to you, then you'd probably try to sue the car club because they didn't tell you, and then the car club would try to sue CAMS for not enforcing it etc etc, after all we know that here in Australia everyone gets sued by everybody else for all sorts of absolutely obscure reasons. Hence CAMS cover themselves by insisting that car clubs have to ensure that competitors have the CTP extension. That way the government covers you, and so the car clubs and CAMS are not involved, and kept happy. If however you are injured while in competion, CAMS will cover you, this is part of the cost of getting a CAMS licence. Well, that's my understanding anyway.
  2. Because the normal CTP in Queensland doesn't cover cars in competition. Hence the need for an extension. It's a stupid system, I know, but that's the way it works and I don't see the point in continuously venting on and on about it. You always make it sound like it's the end of the world and you have to jump through hoops of fire and pay your lifes savings and that it's the most stressful thing in the world, when it's really not. It's not like it's hard to get or anything. I don't think it's even caused by CAMS itself, since CAMS doesn't control how the CTP in Queensland works. And FYI, you don't need a special to be exempt from CTP extensions. You just need a car that doesn't have CTP to begin with (ie non registered car). At least CAMS is nice enough to cover unregistered cars without additional fee. /rant.
  3. Mel: old? Pfft! You'll always be young to me :P
  4. Mel: No, not paid you yet. Had no change, haven't seen you since...
  5. You did a 540??? That's umm... rather impressive. $40 of fuel is so friggin good. How many k's is that? Camry does about 550k's on $60 of fuel (approx 11km/L), bike does about 150k's on $6 of fuel (approx 30km/L).
  6. Hehe, cool! More publicity to raise more funds for Bothgirls to go to Tassie :P For the first time ever, I see the resemblance between Mel and Jasmine :)
  7. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I was planning on going to rally but really wasn't feeling super and still on sort of soft food diet, didn't end up going...
  8. Mmm Porsche. If I won a lottery, I could so see myself buying a Porsche...
  9. That looks really good. All the tyre places here in Ipswich want to charge $25 per wheel too, WTF? 2 or 3 years ago they were charging like $10...
  10. Probably because: a) There aren't really many places in the CBD left to build large scale parking spots. b) That would require money, and the people up there don't want to spend money, they want to make money. c) Giving free parking spots will probably encourage more people to drive into the city, since they don't need to worry about parking I believe Singapore already has something similar with the old car thing, that's why you don't find many old cars in Singapore, it's economically more viable to keep buying newer cars than to keep old cars. I also think Japan has a similar thing? I like the bicycle idea. I think they should also encourage more motorcycles, as motorcycles don't cause as much traffic jams, and it's easier to cater for more motorcycle parking than it is for more car parking. I also think they should expand and improve on Park & Ride, which is already around but on a fairly small scale. Have more, and more secure, Park & Ride stations for both buses as well as trains. And instead of increasing tax etc on parking in the city, how about reducing costs of public transport? That will encourage yet more people to use public transport. At the moment, it is cheaper for me to ride my motorcycle to work, than it is to buy a bulk train ticket (3 monthly). In fact, it costs me less than half than it is to buy a daily ticket. It costs me marginally more to drive my car in to work by myself. Car pool with 1 other person, and voila, it's cheaper for me to drive in. Apart from the inconvenience and hassle of having to sit in traffic and concentrate for the entire duration of travelling, why wouldn't I just drive or ride in every day?
  11. Based on the fact that 7" wheels are even a bit wide on a KE3x, I would think that 7" wheels would be rather wide on a KE1x. For a start, you wouldn't want to put anything smaller than a 185 tyre on a 7" rim, in fact a 195 would probably be about the smallest recommended size for a 7" rim... Big wide tyres on small light car, + water, is not a good thing. Unless it's a drag car, I probably wouldn't go any wider than maybe 6.5". In fact I'd probably stick with 6".
  12. I agree with doug, I think the jellybeans suit the KE1x better.
  13. fayt: mmm, contach :hmm: That said, it wouldn't go, handle or stop as well as a porky. After seeing that crash, the Sherrin Hire crash and several others, I doubt ANY other car is as safe as a porky.
  14. Not necessarily. Not many people buy cars that they can just "replace" on the spot if they completely and totally write it off... That said, I'm sure they'll be able to replace it. It's just a matter of "when". And "if". The driver appears to be fairly shaken up by the whole thing (unsurprisingly).
  15. This is probably a dumb question, but do the panels actually bolt on???
  16. Holy cow. Definately not something I intend to try anytime in this lifetime... Porsche attempts to fly at Targa NZ
  17. No, I ended up using a Celica diff...
  18. Oh hey look that page has more codes than the 4AGE book. 52 is knock sensor. For some reason my engine is knocking above 4000RPM? Hmm. How to diagnose further??? Ah. Helps to have knock sensor plugged in :D Must have knocked it off when fixing alternator yesterday...
  19. I've got a small port 4AGE (MAP sensor), and yesterday broke the alternator mounting bolt and so had no charge for a bit. Anyway, fixed that, and now the check engine light keeps coming up. It only comes up when I rev the engine above about 4000RPM (and then stays on until I kill the ignition again). I've reset the ECU, but it comes up again, so I guess there is something wrong. First of all, after resetting the ECU, the light blinks rapidly (like how it describes it in the 4AGE book as an AFM 4AGE). Umm... Why would it do this? Secondly, after getting the check engine light to come on, the diagnostic code says 5, 2. What on earth is 5, 2? There is no code like this in the 4AGE book...
  20. chunky-itl: yes, I do live there. please remind me again, why I should be ashamed for being spotted there?
