  1. Twincam.org.au is the place to go Twincam.org is now owned by an American f@$kwit who pissed off all the old members who then left to form the .org.au, thus leaving Twincam.org as a shell inhabited only by tumbleweeds and people who only want to flog-off shit.
  2. If you're worried about the suspension there are non-Superstut models around, in which case they essentially use the same suspension as the locally-delivered models (technically all Corollas after the AE102 are imported)
  3. Wouldn't surprise me at all, they've already done that with the rally formats with the Excel replacing the Gemini V8 Supertaxis run E85, and IndyCars run E100 (actually E98, replaced methanol after Paul Dana brought ethanol sponsorship to the series).
  4. I do realise it is legal, in the sense that they aren't technically breaking the law as they have entered the intersection, but I still don't believe that it is the right thing to do. As I also mentioned, they often end up stopping whilst still in the intersection because of the second half pair of traffic lights 20m down the road, and THAT is illegal (you can't stop in an intersection, ie you can only enter it if there is room for you to exit) - yes car drivers do it as well at the same intersection, but they don't block multiple lanes like a semi or b-double do. And my gripe is about one intersection in particular, because it happens to be a very busy one that I encounter every day to and from work. The argument about stop-start-stop-start doesn't really fly because these are one of the only set of traffic lights on Route 1 between Thornleigh and Buladelah, and is well out of any metro area.
  5. The problem with that is that supply would very quickly overwhelm demand - since a lot of people would be getting rid of the cars that the wreckers normally supply parts to, suddenly there will be a glut of shells in the yard just gathering rust which will never get touched, and eventually the wrecker will just scrap them anyway without ever selling a piece, thus the wrecker will lose out because you've added unnecessary steps which cost money. Imagine it this way (numbers are completely out of my arse, but you'll get the point) - there are 10,000 old KEs left in Australia, 9,000 on the road and 1,000 more in wrecker yards. Obviously there will be more on the road than in the yard, because not every car breaks down and needs parts, not every car that needs parts will source them from a wrecker, and not every car sold gets taken to the wreckers (a lot just get stripped and crushed straight away). Suddenly, a cash-for-clunkers scheme comes in and about half those KE owners decide to sell-up - if all those CfC cars go to wreckers you'll have 5,000 KEs on the road and 5,000 KEs in wreckers yards (that's like having a dedicated parts car for EVERY remaining KE owner in the country), a nightmare for those running the yards as they'll quickly run out of room for models which still have a strong demand for parts (newer model Falcons/Commodores etc). All those extra KEs being sent to the wreckers offer no real financial gain to the wrecker, so all the yard becomes is a holding yard before they get crushed, except now the car goes through extra handling steps for the same end result.
  6. I'm guessing you're thinking of Performance Superlights, they go 10x5 up to 16x8 Performance Superlights
  7. You'd be hard-pressed to find multi-stud one that would fit, as they tend to be 4x114.3/4x100, as those two sizes are much more common.
  8. But for most people driving old Corollas, the gauge doesn't work properly (or at all) and thus is useless, making the odometer and hence L/100km very relevant
  9. I know it's a pretty hard concept to understand, but maybe S13 springs fit into S13 shocks? It's not as if they're a rare model or anything, probably half the drift-boys in the country run S13s.
  10. Well mine didn't then, it was only an SE though.
  11. All KE55s or just the coupes? My late KE55 didn't have anything on the door cards apart from the handle and the window-winder
  12. It's a case of immediate versus long-term returns/gains. You tend to notice and appreciate a big lump sum being deposited in your account more than the same amount spread out over 26 individual pays (or whatever your pay period is). Most people who don't save tend to spend their pays almost entirely, so $100 extra a week mightn't really be noticed because it gets wasted on little things like the more expensive coffee or having Maccas every so often - give them $5200 once a year though and their eyes light up at the thought of the big-screen TV that they could buy, or the new car, or that holiday away - tangible things that get remembered, even if the financial situation is technically identical.
  13. They got TE3Xs too, not just 70s.
  14. How long have you owned the car? Sounds like it has had an overheating problem for a while and the previous owner removed the thermostat to try and get around it.
  15. The Morris Marina is almost universally despised though and widely recognised as one of the worst cars of all time. The Corolla isn't, even it's critics agree that it is good, just boring.
  16. Got my Gregorys and Yellow Book (Toyota engine manual) on eBay for probably a grand total of $40. The Gregorys come up all the time on eBay, and whilst they may skim over some things they are better than nothing. Yellow Books etc are a bit rarer though (but not unobtainable)
  17. I happen to find that terribly try-hard and cliched, but hey, that's my opinion. People might come up to you and ask if you're selling deodorant, for instance.
  18. Could have used a beat-up KE55 then, they were around in '79. And were ugly too, so no-one will miss them (round lights with massive chrome monobrow doesn't work in my books)
  19. What model 55 is it? SE, CS, XX? Can't go wrong with KE-55-SE or the like, simple yet clear, not ricey or try-hard in anyway.
  20. Deck-height increase would mean that he doesn't have a 3K block. I'm joining the "3k number on a 4k engine" crowd. In saying that though, I'm a big fan of the great Smokey Yunick, who ran by the philosophies "it's only cheating if you get caught" and "the other bastards are doing it 10-times worse"
  21. I fully understand the pressures on heavy-vehicle drivers though, this isn't as if they are hammering into the intersection at 80km/h and can't stop in time, this is during fairly heavy (~8am) traffic at which you'd be lucky to hit 30 going over the bridge, and most of the time it is just shuffling forwards. If a truck can't react to an amber light from 30km/h and pull up in time, I shudder to think of the consequences of how close they like to follow each other. Another issue that can compound it is a second set of lights immediately after the turn which (if they go red) will mean that the B-doubles (they tend to block in pairs, or mixed in with other traffic) will block traffic in both directions (5 lanes in total, used to be 6 until they took one out and replaced it with a cycle-lane). And the issue isn't so much the extra couple of seconds, it's the volume of traffic in 3 lanes (we're talking about the intersection of the New England and Pacific Highways here, arguably the two heaviest-trafficked roads in NSW north of Sydney) that tend to throw logic out the window and scatter every which-way to get around the slowly accelerating truck before the upcoming lane-merge - I've lost count the number of times I've been in the far left lane and had to hammer it up the inside beside at least 4 articulated trucks in the middle lane (there are two turning lanes off the bridge but the trucks always end up in the middle regardless of which one they come from) because there is no way in hell I'd be able to merge in behind them with the volume of traffic behind me. On the flip-side to the "it only holds you up for a few seconds" claim, it only adds about 2 minutes to total travel time for the truck for it to stop at the lights (and trust me, the ones that run the red can stop in time) - 90% of them would be heading south towards the F3 and Sydney so this intersection is the last set of traffic lights before Pennant Hills Road 150km away (they'll have one exit and a roundabout between the bridge and the freeway) - you're much more likely to get hit by slow traffic for longer on the F3 than you are waiting at one set of traffic lights for the next set.
  22. No offense, but I just threw up. The wheel is bad enough, but checkerplate belongs in silver in a ute-tray, not in blue on a dash.
  23. I'm on-and-off all my forums during the day at work, will tend to have them open in the background whilst I do the stuff that I get paid for and just take a peek every so often - on a slow or boring day it is the reverse and I'll spend much more time on forums and the occasional burst of work.
  24. WGMG - people who always finish sentences in the typed form with either a question mark or an exclamation mark. FFS, are you always excited? eg - "I just went to the toilet! We were out of toilet paper, so I had to go look for some! Did Dave get some more went he went shopping? I hope he did! After I flushed, I went outside! And checked the mail! A car drove past!" Also WGMG - trucks running red lights. Or more specifically, trucks that are so long that when the cab hits the line the light is still orange, but because it's a freaking B-double or whatever the lights are green for a solid 5 seconds before traffic in the cross direction can actually move. This happens almost every day to me on the drive to work, at the T-intersection at the end of the Hexham Bridge. There are always heaps of trucks turning right from the bridge to go up the highway to the F3, and invariably a truck is the last vehicle to cross the line. The lights go green for us, but there's still the big-arse truck blocking all 3 lanes as it slowly swings around the corner. Even when there is room to go, the truck will take up close to 2 lanes for a good 100m down the road as it eventually manages to fully straighten up, meanwhile cars are going every which-way around it to try and get past before the 3-2 lane merge up ahead.
