  1. i have heard of people using a exedy organica plate, whish is the same as i have I'm me 4ac ke70. with lower power levels it grate, has copped a fair bit, a track day, drifting, hills driving traching someone to park with :no2: I'm more than happy with it and will buy another one when this wears out. i brought it with about 3500km's on it and I'm using it on my 2nd motor (blew the first one :P) and its still going well. it has more than enough bite to compression lock fairly agro and launch resonably hard if you drop it (havnt had it slip once yet) but it acts like a stock clutch just with a bit heavyer. you may want to go a little better than this on a car thats being driven quite hard alot as the forces are grater than in my application but i can vouch that I'm 100% happy with mine.
  2. to who ever edited my post, yes i know my spelling is not the best at times i do try and may even download fire fox with spell check on it some day. but i do not use sms speak or shortened versions of english. i don't use ghetto speak like 'ulleh'. yeah that makes more sence Andrew
  3. i was refuring referring to this^^ where you talking about another car? coilover converion conversion can be done to ke70 :P Spelling fairy's back from a lengthy holiday.
  4. replacement springs for coilovers? a mate of mine has just brough some 86 front coilies and the have 6kg springs.
  5. so are the kings custom? or do they make coilover springs? i asume thet they are the ones that use the shock mounts, how much did you have to renforce it?
  6. yes kyb is available in short stroke front and rear. yes it is a money thing when it comes to using kyb's, i would agree from reports that koni's are far superior to kyb. kyb in my opinion are a entry base lever into perfomance shocks, which for alot of people are enough for the street driving because they arnt that serious about it. i myself would love to try some high end shocks, koni yellows, bilsteins etc. i aim to have some very high quality shock such as these in the future. Andrew, do you know what sort of rate the kings are? also how much did the hight drop by? i love how low my car is wih the new springs but what i don't like is the total lack of stroke they have :no2: I'm beginning to think i may have to go coilovers to keep the stroke that i want. with i really wanted to keep standard type sprinter struts. another option i had in mind was to lower the spring perch but this also has the problem with safety (which is belive it ot not is very high on my list of priorities). it would require alot of reinforcing but it would allow me to keep my car low with stroke in the suspension :P
  7. HK? you will know when you see them :P
  8. nope not my car but a car that i drive about as much as my ow car, 6.5kg and 4.5kg new springs with new short stroke kyb excel-g shocks. i think this maybe a fractionaly stiff for a grip focused street setup. the car was fair on the road had had next to no body roll, grips very well. i was so impressed by this that I'm putting together a very simerla setup. as i have stated i have driven with many setups and this is the one i like the most. only thing that i ahvnt drievn with is one with the bushes all replaced. no i have not driven with fully replaced stock suspension as i have not met anyone how did not upgrade to better when replacing suspension components. os for the price diffrence it just makes sence to go a little better and have a better handeling car. when you buy springs alot of manufactors sell slightly stiffer than standard not tottaly standard for standard as i stated above i have driven with uber stiff s13 coilovers, 8&6, 6.5&4.5 all with new quality dampeners. so i think thats a bit of veriety and seeing as i was saying that stock ke70 gear is rubbish i would of had to experience better to form this kind of opinion. it dosent worry me if people do not agree with my suspension ideas, I'm going to keep on developing my suspension setup to find what works best for my car and whats best for street driving becasue thats where its going to sprend 99% of its time.
  9. i have TRD springs waiting to go in which are of the highest quality but at the end of the day i can't ring up TRD and say 'can you make them another 2cm lower please...' no i can't.
  10. rollaboy: being a machanic and doing some work at a perfomance focused garage i would expect you to understand and aprecate how modifiyed suspension can make the car safer. i can also understand that it can also make it worse, much worse if the wrong setup is performed IMO the standard suspension in a ke70 is not safe and that it should be replace with something lower and stiffer, maybe something like 4&3kg with some good quality shorter stroke shocks. that would be ideal for a daily that anyone could jump in and drive, mums dad grandpars etc. sbox: what you said sbox, shock absorbers do not play a lot of effect in controling body roll, if they arnt not working properly it will mess up the whole handeling not just body roll.
  11. slapper: i agree with you on almost every point you made. rollaboy have you even driven a ke or earlyer corolla...? i the only corollas i have are ke70, ae71 t-18 and sprinter. infact have you drievn a car before and after it has had a suspension upgrade? its more agile, grips better (if suspension is selected with this in mind) more controlable....... i can tell you now in standard form they suspension is far from safe. stiffer and lower suspension makes the car more stable, provides more grip and improves braking by distributing the weight more evenly. manufactors wouldnt make suspension so bad that it would casue instant death but they have comfot inmind more than safety. can you feel safety as you take a car for a test drive..? not particual but you can feel comfort. did you actualy read what i said? i said that you would only want to change the susy on a fazza if you where into some kind of serious motorsport and actually needed it. if i owned one i woulnt be touching the suspension becasue they have as you have confirmed, they have perfomance in mind not comfort
  12. eerrr, yes shock are a very very important part in a suspension setup. they are the diffrence between a a car handeling ok and sticking like glue. shocks do not play a large effect on supressing body roll. what i eman by this is with some correctly rated springs and kyb excel g shocks you should have a good handeling car, if you went to something like a beilstein or TRD ajustable shock there is a world of differance.
  13. i belive you only change the exhaust cam and just keep the standard cam with the vvt
  14. rollaboy, i don't know about hear say and the you would have to be the first person i have eaver heard to have a spring snap in half! perhaps you cut partway threw the next coil..? manufactors sepcialy of these cars really didnt care too much of the handeling of the car they more cared more about comfort. being that the car would be a daliy commuter it would not be practical or safe to put 8&6kg springs made very low spring into a car that being aim for such purpouses (i also think that 8&6 is too stiff for any grip focused street car). do you think a sports car would have the same type of suspension? i don't think they would put very high (off road spec) very veyr soft springs into a fazza now would they? no they wouldnt because it would handel like a boat as ke's do with stock standard suspension. I'm betting that ferrari would make a suspension setup thats firm but not spine crushing, matching shocks and swayars tuned together to give the whole car a good overall balance. you wouldnt want to change them unless you wher into some serious track only shit. i have driven with 8&6, 6.5&4.5 standard, cut standard, s13 coilovers etc...
  15. you usually have an electric fuel pump in the boot but to can be put in the engine bay i surpose. remember to put a gasket to stop oil pissing out too. because its still carby you don't haev to have a surge tank as you would for a 4ag conversion. it maybe a good idea to get a regulator so that you don't have too much presure. my ol man has a huge fule pump and he has had problems because of this. we are trialing on of my regulators to see if it fixes these problems. i may have some parts that intrest you, PM'd regarding these.
  16. i changed the oil today, has only done 3500kms since hte last service. i was thinking that it it may of been because it was running so rich that it may of been comtaminated.
  17. i hear what your saying and when you where on a smooth peice of road it would grip like all hell but if it started bouning it was like shit and slower than standard cutties would be. :D
  18. i recon they sit nice on a 7" wheel for the front. i don't use anything other than 175's so my car will turn properly due to average tyres on the front and poor suspension.
  19. shock do not have a lot of effect on body roll. the springs do most of the work with swaybars helping a little. coln72: the springs may of been a little stiff for what you want them for but your shocks wouldnt of matched the spring rate if they where just standard ones even if they are still working.
  20. handy ol Toyota's too much of a slacker, it was probably cheaper to make one loom than 2 (one for clock models and one for tacho)
  21. eeerrr yeah i would say that is a bit wide, unless you have a 3sgte. hell even alot of 4agte's wouldnt chew them off real easy. 13's for all out loss of traction. i used 175/14's on the rear always have since i put wheels on the car, they give fairly good control, alot better than and stock 13's. they are also over a 7" rim so that pulls the tyre tight not exactly strech but its a nice fit. also they are very common and easy to find use ones.
  22. yeah mate its been fairly good up until the past few days. when i put i in it instantly was better, the stronger spark is burning almost all the fuel (except on idle). i think my oil is farked because there are some strange sounding noises like the oil is shagged and not getting around where it should be due to heavy contamination by fuel. plenty of oil in there just noisy operation so ill change that before any more damage is done. went to get some of that heat sink silicon stuff and the slack bastards where closed. will try and get some today, hopefully that little board thing doesn't fry before hand.
  23. eeerrr, wolf has you driven a car with and without cut standard springs..?? its a basicly free way of making the handling slightly better. it should not been seen as a good set-up I personally hate standard springs for there complete lack of ability to suppress body roll. they are stupidly soft. say you cut 25% off the spring and that increases the rate by the same amount. standard springs are what 1.5kg? wow that makes then 1.9ish kg huge increase, not. i have managed to put some stupidly stiff springs in the front (just temporarily). i estimate they would be a minimum of 8kg's. i have cut standard springs in the back and it has made the car very unbalanced as you would expect from such radical differences. i have some TRD 6 and 4.7kg springs which should work reasonably well with some KYB (excel'g/agx) front shocks and my own (Kyouteki supplied) rear adjustable short stroke shocks. one thing i do not like about having a low car is the amount of travel you end up with, its not enough imo. i know stiffer springs tend not to have a lot of movement in them but for a street set-up I think its imperative that you do. the one on the left is a standard spring with 1.5-2coils cut off and the left is a king from another car that has been cut in half (currently in my car)
  24. more info..?? a car with a lower centre of gravity will handle better but if proper measures arnt taken it will casue bump steer.
  25. yeah thats why i only spoke of near accsedents.. where technicaly i wasnt braking any laws... none of the above was intentional
