So I have a few Corolla projects at the moment:
KE36
KE55
But this is about the KE38 that I've decided to build for one of my younger brothers, who is learning to drive.
This is basically what I started with. I had removed some front end pieces, the grill had been broken, there is a little rust around the usual places, it only had a block sitting in the engine bay, but overall it looked too good to scrap, and worthy of being restored.
Engine bay to begin with
Engine remainder and 4 speed removed
After a quick brush down
Ever get the feeling you're being watched?
No point respraying the entire car without doing the engine bay. Engine bay sanded
Etch primed and prepped
State of the interior. Front seats were torn and worn completely.
Carpets removed. Original underlay will be replaced, but I've kept it in for the time being to use as a template for the new stuff
Trial fit of ZZ Celica seats, picked up cheap, and a lot nicer than the originals.
Replacement 4k. Also have a KE70 5 speed box to sling back in, will have to cut the shifter hole back to suit.
Plans are to:
- Remove rust, weld in new metal
- Respray in similar colour blue
- New suspension bushes / shocks / springs etc
- Install 4k and K50
- Install ZZ Celica front seats, new carpet, fix up / clean / dye the rest of the interior
- Rego
