  1. I guess it depends on who you see. I've called in to my local toyota dealer in toowoomba looking for KE10 parts and had two very different reactions from two different people. The first guy was very helpful, he dug out the microfiche and checked in japan etc etc. The second guy just gave me a flat out, 'no and no i can't check in japan, its just not possible'.... apparently...
  2. A mate of mine is a painter and i've heard him say many times not to mix brands. If you are using glas paint use their hardener primer etc. Maybe thats not your problem though... In all seriousness, you're worried about pin holes and you're painting outside? My mate whinges about the amount of crap he gets in his jobs and he sprays in a booth thats cleaned regularly...
  3. Personally i like nothing better than whitewalls and hubbies. The vanetian is neither here nor there for me, i guess it depends what mood i'm in. Definitely no tint on old school cars under any circumstances...
  4. Agreed. Hubbies and whitewalls would set them off....
  5. Meh, the race lacks variety. I think variety is a good thing and it is after all the spice of life...
  6. I'm gonna go with Richards in the GTR. Oh that's right, it turned gay and i havent watched it since. Sorry, i'm still upset. I cry myself to sleep when i can...
  7. Not $395 keen for a plate containing all letters? You should think yourself lucky, we pay $2200 for that privilege in Queensland. I've always had a soft spot for rotors but i don't think i could hack up my KE10 to do it. Good luck with it... This is my brothers weekender running a ported 12A turbo....
  8. Yeah it is a good deal. He is a little unmotivated but we'll get there. The other room mate is an auto electrician so i think i've done well, haha.....
  9. Here is a slight update. I've really done bugger all to the KE10 since i bought it. I've fitted new konis in the front and had the leaves reset at the back as well as fitting the discs to the front and started stripping her ready for panel and paint. I recently installed the 5 speed box only to find the tailshaft wont match up. So i hunted down an early model KE10 for $100 just for the diff. It has a few decent bits on it, though it has had a front ender. I'm told the motor runs, the doors are good as is the rear bumper, plus some good glass and a few little interior bits and pieces. It also came with 3 centreline style mags and 1 odd 1. Over the course of my searching i picked up 2 sets of brand new tail light lenses, new side blinker lenses, new front blinker lenses and new fender mirrors. I've since sold the celsior and bought an R33 skyline 4 door sedan series 2, turbo and 5 speed of course. One main reason i haven't done much to the corolla is due to the fact i've recently bought my first home. I now have a decent shed to work in as opposed to the grass i had before. The previous owner of the house was an electrician and went stupid putting 22 power points and 16 fluoros in. 1 of my friends i've had move in to help pay off the house is a spray painter so hopefully soon enough the 10 will be painted and ready to go...
  10. In my opinion nothing looks better than white. Sure there are plenty of white ones but how often do you see another KE10 on the road? Going with newish type metallic makes the car look crap unless everything single thing on that car is in overrated condition. I planned to go something new and metallic, i've got 2 sets of brand new tail light lenses, side blinkers, fender mirrors etc but there are still things i can't get new, so i'm going with white as it will make the car look best...
  11. Yeah philbey they are the same size. I should have posted up when i got it in the post but didnt think about it. A list of wire swaps required would be tops if you could do it for me mate. I don't think i'll be fitting it for a little while yet. Just bought a house so the 10 might be on the back burner for a bit. Kinda sucks cause now i have a 3 bay garage (with 22 power points in it) instead of having to work on the grass...
  12. I'm with coln72, steer clear of the bigger companies for that sort of thing. Another good reson to steer clear of star track is that they like to lose things. I have to deal with them quite a bit through work.
  13. Hmm thats a good question haha.... The one i quickly, and i mean quickly, looked at when i pulled him up for a chat looked neat. Didnt look cut to me. If it comes down to it i guess i can cut some metal or just sell it on ebay. Anyone know what it takes to fit one, ie. any cutting or anything?
  14. I'm talking about the dash cluster. I acquired a KE1X tacho dash on ebay just under a week ago and its brown. Being fairly rare i was wondering if anyone thought it would be bad to paint it black? The actual dash pad i am going to send to brisbane to be reskinned...
  15. A mate of mine who is a spraypainter recommends nothing but gravity fed guns. He also told me that you can get a very good finish with acrylic but it just wont last compared with 2pac. I've talked with him at length about when he'll be sparying my car and he has recommended a 22 line white, no clear. Above where somebody mentioned clear was cheaper than colour i guess while technically possible probably isnt a good idea. My mate told me a paint job with clear is only as good the clear used so don't skimp on that. I watched him paint a mates silvia on the weekend, black with zerelic pearl. I was amazed to watch him run his finger through brand new paint work to remove a dust particle. I asked him about it later and he said just wait and see. It turned out perfect after two more coats. I've also seen him get a run on another car and he just loaded the paint on and ran the run off the car. I guess they are the tricks of the trade you learn after doing the job for a few years. Personally i would never attempt panel and paint on one of my own cars. I guess it comes down to previous experience and the finish you hope to achieve. I figure if your forking out cash on the paint and materials you might as well go that bit extra and have a pro complete it. Perhaps you could even complete the majority of the panel work and have them fine tune it and spray it. I guess it makes it that little bit easier for me having mates in the business with boothes and such...
  16. Does anyone here think it would be sacrilege to paint my newly acquired dash black? If i did, it would be done by a mate who is a professional spray painter...
  17. Sure is mate...
  18. Thanks for the info mate. I guess i'll find out about fitting the tacho dash in about a week. Just scored one off ebay...
  19. I didnt really know where this should go but i figured this might be the best place. I met a guy in town driving a KE11 some months ago. He had a tacho dash in it and he said he had two sprinters at home. He was telling me you can't install a tacho dash into a car that didnt come factory with one unless you get the whole wiring loom as well. I find that slightly hard to believe as i imagine the tacho takes its reading from the coil? If i was to obtain a KE10 tacho dash would it be as easy as running a wire to the coil? Can anyone shed any light on that one? Also while i'm here, my stock heater box is a little shot. I can pick up a brand new one with hoses for $350 plus freight from japan, but thats a little high for my liking. Does anyone know if its terribly difficult to adapt a later model, KE20/30/50 etc heater box into my car? I just want to know if anyone has done it, before i waste my time and money at a wrecker on a useless endeavour.... Any help is greatly appreciated, Matt....
  20. Yes the van rims are 4.5' wide. My brother had two widened for $60 each. He runs 225 semi slicks on them for drag racing his 12AT mazda 1300 wagon... KE11 restorer i thought they came in 15' only as well. Recently i was at my mates work and 2 of their vans were early mazdas. One had 13' front runners and the other had 14'. While i was at the wrecker picking up my 15's i spotted a van there with 14's on it.....
  21. KE11 restorer, mazda make a 14' steelie which came out on mazda E1600 E1800 and E2000 vans from the mid 70's to the early 80's. They came out in 13' 14' and 15' 110pcd so you may have to do a little searching. I believe the rims look decent painted up and wont require a hub cap. Also, if your gonna fit mazda rims take Felix's advice and file out the inner hub, they are a real pain to get off....
  22. Croc - PM'd Felix - Can you tell me if that whole list is available in a whitewall? Maybe the 185/65R15T would be a goer but i guess i wont know till i fit them, unless of course somebody has already done it. The wrecker had a van with the same rims in a 14' and my mate has a van at work with the same 14' rims. Maybe the 14's would be a better choice. Ahh just saw the last column 'side wall' i imagine 'b' is for black and 'w' for white....ohh well....
  23. I'm not terribly interested in the speedo being out as i can either have my speedo calibrated or compensate in my head. Really i'm just after some real world experience if the above mentioned white wall 15' sizes would fit, some white wall dealers or some info on redrilling rims....
  24. I'm having a little trouble with some knowledge on wheel and tyre choices for my KE10 (still 110pcd). Since buying my KE10 i've been looking for hubcaps and wheels to suit my car. I have found an immaculate set of 5 never fitted RT40 hubcaps and planned to fit them on a set of mazda 13' steelies i have also acquired. Problem is that the hubcaps are the small inner ring type and mazda must have decided to go with some weird sized inner lugs cause they wont fit. Next i found a set of 15' mazda van rims (the rotor/mazda boys love), as pictured. My drama with these is that i've been told white walls will be basically impossible to fit. Having just looked through a few tyre sites i have figured the general 15' sizes are, P185/70R15, P175/75R15, P155/75R15. Can anyone give me some thoughts on weather those profiles will be too large for my 10 on a 15' rim? Somebody on here once mentioned to me that if wanted to fit my hubcaps to the RT40 wheels they came off to get some and have them redrilled. Is that a safe and accepted process? Also if anyone can give me some tyre sites selling white walls that would be appreciated. Any feedback is most welcome...
  25. Very nice indeed. I'll second my love for the galant though i do like the older shape.....
