  8. The government, under various names different in each state. Basically, if you're going to do a conversion, you contact an approved engineer FIRST, then go through with them what you intend to do. He will then tell you what you HAVE to do during the course of the build to get it all approved and legit. Stuff like bigger brakes, chassis strengthening etc etc. The engineer will quite often need to inspect the project at certain points during the build to make sure you're doing it all properly. So once its all done (to his standards) you then get your modification plate(s) and attach them to the car... I think you guys have a similar plate system over there but yours is better... because whilst we have to get 7 million bloody plates for each mod, you just get one with all the mods etched on it
  9. The glass is half FULL, Teddy.... Full.
  10. Our rules vary state to state... in QLD at least you only have to get the car inspected (roadworthy/safety certificate) when the vehicle changes owners. And yes that does mean that there are datsuns that grandad bought new in 1975 still getting around that have never been inspected...
  11. *ahem* In my salad days... accumulated 27 points in 6 months. Walked out of that courtroom with my licence intact, an extortionate fine, and a $2500 invoice from the lawyer. Mind you, my hefty list of infringements was limited to speeding and defects. No DUI, no dangerous driving, seatbelt, etc... Live and learn.... been squeaky clean ever since.
  12. Bwahahaha Shit son, go the liquid nails!
  13. Sunday was a good day. I woke up next to an absolute stunner, same one I do every day... she still makes me smile. Went to the kitchen made a DAMN good cup of freshly ground organic coffee from the Kuranda highlands... that made me smile. Strolled outside into a clear and perfect day, 20deg, not a cloud to be seen, gentle breeze... that made me smile. Look to my right, nice shiny JZX100 in the carport. That gave me wood. That made me smile. Made myself presentable, likewise aforementioned sexy little strumpet. Fired up the Chaser and cruised up one of the most beautiful stretches of road in the country to Port Douglas, for a massive cholesterol laden brekky (cooked by some other poor sod) right on the beach. Life ain't so bad.
  14. That looks like soooo much fun... Look what I found in the gallery pics :) ooh... and.... value adding :)
  15. No idea on the bonnet laws... but I assume they're not permitted either. Probably something to do with a pedestrian hazard. Yes, the laws are draconian and possibly a little over regulated... however, its still possible to build a stupidly quick AND completely legal street car, you just have to do the mods properly and get your engineer to tick them off one by one through the process of the build. Basically, no dodgy ghetto shit. At the end of the day, there's nothing better than being pulled over by some smart arse cop, expecting to issue you a nice pile of tickets and a defect notice... then you pull all your certificates out of the glovebox and shove them in his smarmy, shiteating face as you drive off.
  16. GVM : CC Kerb weight x 3 for n/a motor, x 2.5 for forced induction, will give you the maximum cc engine you can install into the vehicle. For example Max cubic capacity for a KE70 (with engineer's approval, subject to other upgrades like brakes in accordance with the uprated engine output) 910kg x 3 = 2730cc n/a 910kg x 2.5 = 2275cc turbo/supercharged And since rotary engines are calculated by doubling the actual cc (for instance a 13B is treated as a 2.6 Litre engine) the 13BT is not permitted. Also, the engine you convert to must have been made in the same year or newer than the car you're putting it into. There's a lot more to it, but thats the nutshell version.
  17. Don't drop the soap Desmond... (same joke, twice.. booyah :) )
  18. Looking at that bit of alloy and the amount of damage, my guess is a curtainside pantech... a ute would have bounced off once it hit the door. Not that it matters now! She's in good nick mate... good luck fixing her up. My suggestion, find yourself a complete donor vehicle for panels. J
