  1. Update us with the results if you can Jip. I've seen the Narva aftermarket ones, but I'd rather something a bit less clunky.
  2. Spell check wont fix that, the word was still correct!
  3. Called you blokes in Norwood, no love. Welding - not a bad idea....
  4. Thats what I said to em. Turkeys.
  5. Cut down my swearing.
  6. Yeh, unbrako's are the go.
  7. The one at the back of the camshaft. The others are 35 and 45mm, most of the "experts" at the parts joints keep telling me it must be imperial! I can't believe how hard it's been. Sprints, Motormate, Coventry (2 different stores including Norwood Raven), Repco and Supergay all give me the same story, they only carry standard 5mm increment sizes. In the end I bashed one out of an old block and its in good condition and fits snugly so I'm taking a gamble. Its not under pressure like the others so I should be alright.
  8. So I went to put in my 46.5mm welsh plug that I got from Sprints. Damn bastards gave me the wrong one, so I rang them and they said "nah we've never sold one that size" No kidding. Has anyone else had the same issues getting hold of a new one of these welsh plugs? Only Toyota can get one, they're not sure which is which so I just got them to order both back ones...... Now I have an unknown period to wait and it will hold up the engine install! I fly back to work monday so it'll be another 3 weeks before I get the damn car going....
  9. Hi guys, Torqued the head up on my 5k and slapped all the rocker gear in. OH OH valves hit pistons first go. Bugger. I pulled the rods out, they were about 156mm long, so I dug around a bit and found some 150.5 long items and they went in perfect. I'm guessing the longer ones are off an early K engine? (Kangaroosa, you might be looking for some longer rods I think they're the ones I got from you with the cam!) Anyway, the shorter rods gave me lifter preloads from 1.1-1.6mm as best I can measure. For you other 5K builders does this sound about right? I originally measured one at about 2mm but I redid it and got it about 1.6. The longer lengths are on the inlets as well. cheers Tom.
  10. You talk to a weber guy, and he'll tell you it's the SU's you always have to tune. Trav once my wags is on the road (should be dropping the engine in today) we should catch up for a beer. Done any more to the little rocket?
  11. I chased the ARP items from Sprints and they apparently don't make them any more.
  12. nah, we decided they weren't , but the conclusion for me was that 4AG ones are cheap and easy to get hold of (and fit)
  13. hahaha, you are a mess. I paid 1300 for: -Acid dip -New cam bearings, fitted -40 thou overbore plus new ACL pistons -Balance -Head rebuild -Full set of rings, seals, gaskets, bearings, etc. Had to build it myself. Your talking about a 6mm (240thou) overbore. I'd be impressed if you could get away with that.
  14. Similar discussion was had by a few of us a couple of weeks back when I posted pics of stretched bolts off my 3k. In the end, I just went to Cornes Toyota on Belair road and bought 6x 4AG bolts for ~25 bucks. Replace the whole set.
  15. Spend the money and get a good set of Unbrako allen keys as well.
  16. I don't dig the fact that they haven't radiused the corners at the base of those lugs..... I'd be getting that crack tested before I stick it in any of my cars!
  17. I usually just hit up U-pull-it to get engine and driveline gear. Went to Toyoland to get a new sump though, saves me the pain in the arse of pulling it out. Those guys are alright, I buy a fair bit off them when I can't be bothered wasting time at the self serve joints.
  18. Yeh, I'm after some passenger side panels, what have you got available? sorry, couldn't resist. I'd recommend anyone with good tidy old corolla insures it with Shannons, my wagon is for 5 grand. In the case that it get written off, I get the car back free of charge!
  19. VDO and Stewart Warner all make gauges that have a functional, understated and neat look. I hate all this silver face, enormous bezel crap that everyone sells these days.
  20. Yeh that was tops, got in after a 13 hour day at work, cooked a steak, sat down and watched him take 4 wickets in no time at all! Good end to a long day!
  21. all the brands of pump and regulator usually state - not suitable for Alchohol. They don't discern if thats methanol or Ethanol, so I might be alright with Ethanol. Suck it and see. You'll find that a number of modern car manufacturers allow a certain amount of Ethanol in the fuel with their warranties, usually up to 10 or 15 percent. Thats if you have a new car though.
  22. Sounds good Toyocharged. My main concerns aren't with the tune etc, I'm more worried about the compatibility issues with my soon to be 40 year old car. I'm probably getting a bit anal though.... MY fuel pressure reg (holley) isn't compatible, but I reckon I'll just throw it in anyway. Anyone got a manual for a Carter fuel pump, I can't find info on the web at all to determine if they'll run with Ethanol.
  23. I forgot all about that - Methanol is a bit more damaging than Ethanol I think, and tuning wise probably has similar issues! Wicked. I'll be running quite high Comp anyway, in the 11s.
  24. API Engines lonsdale. TW engineering in St Agnes. Adelaide isn't that big I'm sure you can get off your arse and drive to one of these.
  25. Yeh, definitely leave bad feedback, I always read through (the bad ones) to get an idea before I Buy.
