  1. Found other pics on the camera. This is my "just get it started" setup. Note the fuel pressure regulator zip tied to a rad hose, thats temporary until I get time to make a little bracket for it. Just going to mount on the front of the manifold. Very little room around the place. Tach is wired onto the scuttle as well so I can set idle's and so on without jumping in and out of the cockpit. The whole engine bay looks filthy but I can't be bothered painting it all up. The motor is a bit of a diamond in the rough, especially when I get the high gloss blue rocker cover on there as well! I just whacked a crappy one on there because I've already had to repaint the good one after I scratched it up getting throttle cables sorted....
  2. So I juiced it up and connected the battery terminals and let out the smoke! Alternator wire had split slightly and earthed on the crossmember. See pic. Fixed that and had issues getting low voltage to the starter. After rooting around for a while I realised it was the Kill switch from the old automatic shifter... :yak: The car is cranking fine now... with the plugs out (Read This). Only just turns over with the plugs in though! For interest, I stuck a comp tester on it, looking at around 200psi, although I don't have much faith in Dad's calibrated instruments. I'll chase a 5k reduction starter this week, buy one brand new if I have to and jam that in. Just want to hear it fire up!
  3. You guys have confirmed my exact thoughts. I'm running a lot of comp so it's no surprise really. I'll go for a tinker and make up some new earth cables, but I doubt I'll see much success. Sucks because I should have seen it coming, now I fly out for work tomorrow and it's another 10 days before she fires up!
  4. Yeh I'll give those items a good going over tomorrow, if that fails me then I'll get on the blower to a few wreckers.
  5. Got my 5K built and in and when I tried to crank it today she turned over very very slowly. Spins fine with the plugs out though. Fairly certain its due to my high Compression Ratio (11:1ish). I'll check the earths again tomorrow and if I still can't get it to run then I will chase up a 5k Reduction starter next week. It has a 4k motor on it at the moment. Just wanted to check other peoples thoughts as well TP
  6. Wouldnt have thought it would be an issue to find one at a wreckers if its a reasonably common car (probably wont find one if its and RS4 audi or something) Maybe not your usualy pinch-a-part ke30 wrecker, but there's plenty with accident smashed new stuff. Let us know how it goes, I've thought about this before.
  7. That thread is just another one typical of the shit you see on boostcruising.
  8. 45 might be alright, considering you can run twin 40's on a (worked) 4k. Jets for dellortos are hard to find, I've had a little difficulty.
  9. Yeh the drama wouldn't be so prevalent if I had just straight swapped a running motor! Or if I were able to just cut corners and do things dodgy, I'd be done by now too. I made sure I did everything on the build properly, the next motor I want to dabble with is a Porsche 3 Litre so I want to get some practise first! Plus I came off night shift on thursday night, had 3 hours sleep, got on a plane home and worked on the car.... Brain Fade. More pics soon.
  10. The 58 HP was probably based on SAE horsepower, a theoretical calculation on a using engine parameters to determine HP Was used in the late 70s in the states when cars were taxed based on horsepower as it usually came up with lower figures. I doubt the 3K has more grunt than a 4k, anecdotally most people seem to find them gruntier.
  11. Pic with the motor in, went to my mate Jimmy's and got myself a nice correct size pulley. Lovely..... Also scored a clutch cable and another window seal to replace my crappy aftermarket one that just wont sit right. The sandwich plate between the box was off my Auto 3K, so I had to drill a clutch hole In Situ.... Damn. Pic of the extractors over the cross member as well. Beautiful fit. These HM's are a treat.
  12. Nah keep it high then when you go to sell it I'll buy it and SLAM it. haha Seriously. When you want to sell one day....
  13. Anytime. I remember the first time I got quoted too - i read the quote and thought haha that's funny who wrote that..... Oh it was me!
  14. kangaroosa for the info on DHLA's and selling me all his goodies Slo030 for the starter strommy swap, sorry I took so long to get up there mate! haha. PMP020 for the random bit's he's left for me behind his letterbox to collect
  15. Yes, call Regency, this time have a note pad handy to jot down what they tell you. I spoke to them about a 5k into my KE10 and they were very helpful, basically it needed a brake upgrade to Disc fronts. If you want a conclusive list, you will have to take it in and pay the 200 bucks and they will tell you what you need. Tom
  16. the Road Safety Centre on Oaklands Road has a Skidpan. Not sure of the accessibility of it though. I went to a drivers day at DECA in Shepparton, out of Melbourne in my sprinter years ago. I was having a ball, they wet the track down. This nice well spoken old dude wandered up and said "you seem to be enjoying yourself, would you mind If I come for a ride" So, I took him out, after plenty of drift and a few good spinouts, he was laughing his head off. Turns out when I asked what he drives, he had his E36 M3 there, and his other car was a 355 Ferrari! He took me for a lap in his M3, and promised to take me out in the 355 next time he had it there, but he passed away unfortunately. Just goes to show, you don't need 300k cars to have fun.
  17. Those pics are a tad old. Motor is in the car now. Went in easy enough. I painted the rocker, same blue as the block. Lovely. Scratched the crap out of it getting the throttle cables sorted though.... Repaint time! Cables worked perfectly, the idle screw setup is a bit dodgy but will suffice. BUT - I had the worst thing ever happened. Took the dizzy off, dropped the screw, heard a clang of it falling on sheetmetal.... Hmm. Did it land on the crossmember? No. Did it land on the car stand base?.... Still no..... Sounded like thin sheet metal....... hmmm. Like the same gauge sheet they make sumps out of! Damn thing went straight down the dizzy hole and past the drive gear and landed in the bloody sump. Didnt actually take long to pull it off, just jack the engine up. I ripped out my baffle as well, one of the silver solder joints cracked off, and I decided I don't like the design. When I get a Mig welder, I'll try a different design with a vertical baffle on the spare sump I've got. Also tried mounting my Fuel Reg, pain in the arse. I think I'll just zip tie it in to get a test fire happening!
  18. Ryan, I'm going to call you right now, after I write this post! My KE10 starter fitted under my headers so I forgot all about it. Solenoid is close though and will probably get fried, so yeh, I'm keen. Plus that strommy is rattling around in my car and pissing me off! haha. Here's 2 pics from a few weeks back, motor is actually in now. Do I look excited haha.
  19. So the body was nice and stiff then! banana car.
  20. It could be on backwards, thats an interesting point. That would change the offset of the pulley though so I don't think that's the case. Wasn't going to run a thermo, had a nice plastic blade fan and just scored a shrouded KE20 rad that I was going to fit in. Might be time to whack in a thermo....
  21. So the motor is in the car, just got to bolt on the last bits, juice her up and give it a test run.
  22. Yeh by the way shaun, yes this is bad. Don't drive it until you've determined the problem. If your motor doesn't go bang, you might do some damage thanks to the new lubrication properties of the oil haha.
  23. Its adelaide mate, last suspension (ie height) defect I saw had to go over the pits, then it's fine tooth comb time. IE fix every little piss and issue on the car if you expect it to get off defect.
  24. Lets stop talking about accidents it's freaking me out. Hey, that green sunny, did a chick called chloe drive that once upon a time?
  25. Do you mind me asking what that interior retrim cost you? Looks the ducks nuts.
