  1. Beef jerky of some description has taken my fancy lately! The drier and saltier the better. When I was a lad working as a roustabout at my local, I used to dig these sketchy Grilla Dogs (hot dog) with Cheese Sauce oooooh yeah.
  2. Is a 4AC an easy swap over? Would have thought it aint too hard.
  3. Chemewelded it yesterday, haven't driven it much though. I'll try for work tomorrow. Driving the 911 aint a bitch - Its the primo price on fuel that is the bitch hahah! And Its on club rego, so its chewing up the 90 days a year I get to drive it hahaha. Least I don't have stupid coolant leaking issues with it - AIR COOLED all the way!
  4. It ends when you sell all your cars and buy a bike. And then you need chain oil, light batteries, fancy tight clothing, bearing grease, new handgrips......
  5. Shit I forgot chemiweld. I reckon the old man has a bottle of it too. To the shed I go!
  6. Yeh, thats what I thought given that I'll have a totally fresh unit. Cam isn't included and I'll still need to spend money on ignition and a new clutch, but its all good. Once i get this puppy honking, I can spend up on my other car...
  7. Ok they have done the head first, all finished. Probably a bit early, I still wanted to work out what to do with it first. 250 for all new valves fitted to the head which I thought was reasonable. I might still get some matchporting done though. I'll bring it home and pull it down and have a look and see. Got a total price, looking at $1300. Thats balanced with all new bearings, pistons (40 thou over) gaskets, chromoly rings, seals, dipped etc etc. Bring it home and bolt it up and its going. Oh, except the cam grind and dizzy recurve. I could have saved money on various things, but I'm getting all good ACL bits, and it'll be fresh as! don't want to try skimp, save 200 bucks and end up needing another rebuild 3 months later.
  8. So I cut every corner, dropped a 6 buck ebay special gasket in, got it going... purred nicely. Let her warm for 10 minutes.... Dad points out some dripping water from the overflow..... Cold water.... Pop the cap, tepid water goes everywhere. Damn. Combustion pressure leak, pressurising my water jacket = A Crack.... But, I went hunting in the shed and found another head! CBF swapping it, i'll drive the 911 to work until I get my 5K finished (Head is done, block work starting!)
  9. a 4 door wagon too..... 4age turbo gets my vote....
  10. Figured it only served to stiffen the "beam" that is the engine and gearbox, so just made sure the bolts were tight hahaha.
  11. I dunno about the Astron, but the saturn is a 4G32. I had a rebuilt Saturn 1600 in my old Galant and my George Foreman grill had more power than that thing. I'd put a 4AC in over a saturn any day.
  12. damn. Just dial the boost on it and trailer it to a few track days!
  13. Cool, a finnish Sprinter! Good stuff, hope to see it get cleaned up and running and welcome to the Rollaclub.
  14. Look up rust converter. Chemical converter, strip right back and slap it on then cleanup and prime/paint it
  15. Yep. Should be an adjuster somewhere. I guess you get flat spots too if you stomp on the accelerator?
  16. Are you talking about the accelerator pump arm? Do you have to pop the bonnet and actually pump the arm to get fuel in there?
  17. I was going to see if you could give an update on your progress. Let me know mate, and I'll write it up for the FAQ as well.
  18. Cheers Jono, I'll add that when I get a chance.
  19. Redwarf, I've seen other Forums where moderators edit out irrelevant posts, stupid arguments and off topic rubbish. Is there any chance we could enforce more of this on RC? In particular, I've seen peoples "For Sale" and "Rides and Project" threads get out of hand and would like to see more editing of this, perhaps with the thread owners approval? TP. PS - there's been a proliferation of people saying ay, which is a mortal sin. Can we fix that too ay?
  20. Folks, I just added a section to the FAQ about engineering cars etc. Still needs editing, but its useable so far. Read Me I have researched stuff in Victoria and SA, but have no idea about any other states. I hear about mod plates and blue plates, but it all means nothing to me. I was hoping someone else could fill in the other 6 gaps, or at least email me with a summary of what they had to do/who they had to talk to etc so that I can expand for all the states in Aus. Please have a read, try to get an idea of what info I need to see and let me know. Or you could edit the wiki yourself. Cheers. Tom.
  21. Holy crap - I was at a servo the other day after my rolla blew a head gasket. Some other dude in a KE30 came up and asked what was wrong etc. He told me there was a burnt out ke70 up at cherry gardens. Let me guess, scott creek road? Damn thats rude. It never even crossed my mind that it was this one......
  22. hmm maybe thats a deadline for me to get my 5k built and in the car...
  23. I never even noticed those stickers were fitted to cars until an obliging police officer with his torch demanded to see mine hahahaha. Couldnt find a single thing to defect me on though ahhahahahahahahahah!
  24. You'll need to plumb the water line Upstream of the heater tap as well, otherwise it will choke too much if the tap is closed! haha.
  25. Cool, I was going to make one myself as well. Its basic principles really. But, a mate at work has a Carbmate. Incidentally, it wouldnt be too hard to make your own with a 5 Volt pressure transducer or two and a multimeter.
