  1. Yeah, interesting afternoon. I love peoples reactions when the car oils up - they range from cheers when they think its tyre smoke (I WISH), through to pity as they think its died a glorious death. The best part about the mini was the fact that they repaired it and it returned to the competition. I loved the afternoon tests, Locker heaven :) PS. I thought I drove like crap yesterday.........
  2. Old man tried something like that but stuffed up the somewhere along the line - ended blowing the dip stick out of the motor so it shorted out the coil :((
  3. Its a "must see" for me on Monday nights. So good to get a discussion going in class. Even kids who hate school watch it.
  4. G'day I'm Colin (Coln72 on this group) from Maryborough I have a KE20 Corolla as a club car.
  5. You guys are all Mythbuster wannabes or something.......
  6. The event should be over by 3:00 at the latest but there are no restrictions on when you leave (there is for me though). I'll just cruise through to the event as I will need to be there for scruitineering by 9:00ish
  7. Dunno, only is you let me rally yours next time I'm in Qld :) Anyway, last time you competed in Vic, you robbed me of a class win........ How do you feel about slumming it in my car Rob?
  8. Same here Spent around 6 years at uni - changes courses from engineering to science (found out I hated the type of people that engineering attracts) changed to science. Spent those six years working part time in a fish and chip shop (usually 20+ hours over a wekend). Got a degree and a $13000 HECs debt. Couldn't score a job in my field so ended up being a lacky in various jobs for 4 years paying back that debt. Got sick of it so I went back to uni to do a Grad. dip in teaching for 12 months. Now a teacher but still have around $13000+ owing the government. Can only score 12 month contracts so can't even buy a house (can't get a loan). Contrast this to my brother in law. Left school at 16, worked as a laborer, got offered an apprentiship as a printer and now has his own home, caravan ect, ect. Who done the smart thing?
  9. Hey, the more the better :angrybird:
  10. You could try to get an apprenticship with a gavernment department eg. CFA in Vic. Usually get better conditions like uniforms as part of the deal. My old man only had to applicants that he would employ out of the 20 or so that applied for his apprentice position so if you are switched on you should do well.
  11. They were using RS spec Subies as course cars in Tassie last year. Was great until they crashed both of them........on the same corner..........one landing on top of the other :angrybird:
  12. I was hoping the you would say that you got it from xyz toyota at the wreckers for stuff all money and that it bolts straight in :)
  13. Having a welch plug start leaking on the way to QLD one holiday, my old man tried to fix it by sticking a half chewed Mintie :) It didn't work because the mintie melted. The units where we stayed were not impressed with engine parts spread all over the parking area.
  14. Bugger, I was trying to convince you to get rid of it and give it to me :) By the way, what did you get the 4.77 from?
  15. I'll be in a burgandy KE20 with "MYTOY" on the rear plate. My old man may be there in his KE20 as well (also with "MYTOY" on the plate). BP Oasis is a truck stop just pass the Ford factory. As you head out of Melbourne, its on your right hand side. You turn right at a set of lights (think its Cooper St) and enter via the truck stop. Start time is around 10:30ish. Last round there were around 30 cars entered, from early Peugots, to a Porche Boxter, through to purpace built specials. So it should be a reasonable day. Sup regs are available here sup regs VMC round 6
  16. Even on those tests I would keep it in first (the shift light would be on for the whole test though :) ) Have tried using second occasionally but its just one more thing to stuff up, I'm normally to busy just hanging on. I'll either be doing a state motorkhana championship round or a club khanacross on the 19th as well. Another option for you would be to change your diff ratio to a 3.9 or so if you can find one. Be cheaper than a close ratio gearbox.
  17. I think CAMS have homoligation papers for different models which state what engine can be used in what model. Give CAMS a call to check before spending any cash.
  18. My old man has a collection of spanners with stategic pieces ground out of them from his days as an apprentice working on mini's and other assorted BMC machinery.
  19. Yeah, I just tend to rev the ring out of mine in first with the 4.2 gears as it bogs down to much in second if the tyres stop spinning. Time wise for me there wasn't a big difference between first or second on the same test (using first was quicker by .1 of a second or something). I imangine 4.77 gears would make second more usable though. Maybe the close ratio gearset would be an advantage in your case to prevent swapping between first and second.
  20. I guess it depends on how slow the slowest point of the track/course is and if you have enough torque to accelerate from this speed in first gear.
  21. Don't think you need heavy duty springs. I have had no trouble with stockers revving out to 7500+rpm.
  22. Just letting everyone know that the next round of the VMC is on the 19th June at the BP Oasis, Somerton. All you need is a current club membership and a CAMS 2NS or higher licence. Cost is $30 if you enter on the day (cheaper if you enter prior). Can link to sup regs if required. If not, I am looking at competing so if you are not doing anything come a say g'day.
  23. He wants to go up not down. If you can not get your standard ones reset then take a coil to the wreckers and start comparing. If it was a KE20 I would steer you in the direction of a HZ kingswood. The springs (can't remember if they were front or rear are the same diameter as KE20) fit the struts. You just have to shorten them heaps. I made the mistake of using V8 ones which I had to cut in half to get the standard ride height. These were way to stiff for my application. I have a photo some where of my car with both front wheels in the air from hitting a small bump. Loosing steering while drifting between cones in a motorkhana sorta grabs ones attention :)
  24. Sorry I upset you Fook, it was just a general comment. I'm surprised you are breaking fourth gear, it seems weird. I've only changed one gearbox in my club car in six years due to a pin falling out of the linkage and leaving it stuck in second. I'm lucky as most of the events I do are on dirt so everything seems to get an easy time (except for diffs  seem to do one every 18 months or so). I also had a mate that broke a 9" diff which was behind a mild 351. Sometimes shit happens.
  25. I had a K50 behind a lightly worked 5K (carbs compression exhaust) with an uprated clutch. Driving included spirited street driving, some clutchless changes, and motorkhanas. It held up ok. It eventually broke through driver error. Hitting 1st gear at 50km/h didn't do firdt gear any good. Took three teeth off the gear but it was still drivable until I sourced another box. Also I was running 225/60/13's on the back so to get them spinning to a bit of effort. As one gearbox repairer once said "If you keep breaking our boxes, we suggest you change your driving style or by an automatic"
