  1. I have posted it all over the place... someone on Toymods had beaten me to it actually and I didn't notice.
  2. Hi all Through the Toyota Car Club down here in Victoria I have received some correspondence from Toyota, as they are putting together a display of original Australian built Toyota's. They already have a good collection from the 60's when AMI first kicked off, but then it drops off, so they are looking for some assistance from enthusiasts out there. If you have a nice nanna spec corolla/corona/crown that was built here in Australia, they would like to hear from you. Given you won't have your car for a few days, I am thinking it will suit Victorians mostly. Anyways here is the message - contact Peter on the email listed, or alternatively PM me. > I'm the National Manager of Product Training and Publications for > Australias favourite car company. > > My employer, the Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Ltd, wish to hold a > display of vehicles to celebrate the commencement of volume production of > Australia's first Hybrid Car and 50 years of manufacturing Toyota cars in > Australia. > > You probably already know that the first Toyota to ever be built outside > of Japan was also the first Toyota built in Australia. > > Anyhow, the TMCAL collection covers most models built thru the sixties > and we are seeking cars built at Port Melbourne during the '70s, '80s and > '90s for the display, which will be at the Altona Manufacturing Plant on > December 11th, 2009. > > If any of your members have such a car in good condition and are prepared > to let us look after it for a few days (they'll need to be on site for a > couple of days before the show and will be under 24 hour security and > pampered by professional detailers), the corporation would really > appreciate your help. > > Alternately, if you know somebody who has such a car and they may be > willing to allow us to display it, they can contact me by email at [email protected] > > My office phone number is 03 9647 4325 or mobile 0419815037. > > thanks > > Peter Carpenter > National Manager Product Training > Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Limited
  3. The size of the Toymods forum means that it takes a little while to get approved. They also don't approve you if you didn't answer all the questions and fill it out properly.
  4. Check this link out on toymods http://www.toymods.net//forums/showthread.php?t=15622 not sure if you need to be a member or not to read it. lots of good information on what goes wrong with solex carbies. loose venturis are apparently very common.
  5. The guys on toymods indicated that they thought it was one of Al Palmer's cars that he had recently had advertised on carsales for $7K or $8K. It has since had whitewalls put on it apparently. Nice mark up if that is the case!!
  6. I believe the concern is that the load slicks put on the wheel leads to the welds in the wheels cracking and then the centre separates from the rim. You end up with no wheel half way through the corner. Bugger! I have seen it happen at Winton last year. This year the Alfa club that ran the winton 6 hour relay race banned steel wheels and I don't think its an uncommon concern. Spring for a set of alloys as soon as you can :(
  7. Steel rims and slicks are frowned on at some events, so be careful of that. I find the improved production forum really good for getting second hand tyres. www.ipraforum.com.au 15's are easiest, but 13's aren't too bad. 14's aren't common. As Dave says Forumla Ford tyres are an excellent and cheap option too. They will heat up pretty quickly since you car weighs near double the Formula Ford but this is perfect for sprints and hillclimbs.
  8. Spotted a nice KE36/38 wagon in purple down at Torquay. Not part of the show - just driving past. Anyone here?
  9. Good show - not enough Japanese metal for me, but lots of gorgeous American chrome and fins and plenty of Aussie classics. Hope we can get a few more cars from the club in to next years event and Tate doesn't have to carry us!! Perhaps the Celica will even be ready by then :2thumbs: Here are the pics http://picasaweb.google.com/adamlaws1974/T...feat=directlink
  10. how good is type3selecta/busselecta - could spend hours on there!!
  11. Love type 3's.... would reallllly like a wagon!
  12. For any one who wants to come have a look, this is going to be held around "The Elephant Walk" which apparently is near the end of Zeally Bay Road at Torquay. dfunkt is coming in his Crown.. we might have another club member in a corolla I think... would be cool to have a few others come along. should be a good day for a drive down to a nice part of the world!
  13. *crickets* I have formed a plan. Anyone who wants to come along, meet at the BP servo on the Princes Freeway at Little River (Avalon Airport - Geelong bound side) at 10.30am. dfunkt i reckon we just meet you there eh?
  14. Corona strut conversion (XT130) sounds like your best bet, but seriously 17's on a KE55 is going to look crap! Get some wheels in the right offset in 15's and she will be a good thing. Thats just my opinion of course
  15. Same one I mentioned up a few posts ago. Girl who owns it works at Brighton Toyota. Bumpers are pretty straight but have some surface rust I think.
  16. or just turn up and tag along on the end... no one objected when i parked my commodore ute in the same car park albeit 50 m away.
  17. Probably better to ask on a celica forum than a corolla forum. He has a username on toymods - http://www.toymods.net/forums/member.php?userid=6649 Maybe you can pm through there and find out what he is up to these days.
  18. Any one looking for a KE20? I had a look at this one on Saturday. Its in reasonable shape for the money and is a two owner. Has a ding in the drivers side rear quarter, and has a big rust hole in the bottom of the drivers front guard. Other than that seemed pretty straight. Started and idled well, don't know how it drives as I didn't take it for a run. Interior needs a fair bit of work as most of the seats had some kind of wear and tear. http://melbourne.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Veh...QAdIdZ161671210 I made an offer but it was a bit lower than what she wanted, so I thought I might let you guys know about it
  19. I run performance superlites on my race car and I wouldn't describe them as light weight by any stretch of the imagination. The Konig Rewinds I have for it are much lighter. Superlites are strong though, and they come at a good price. I have been told then can be lightened too by a supplier, but not sure how true that is.
  20. Might be a better question to ask at toymods. Its not a very common engine out there. Parts would be moderately difficult but you should be ok if you use some one like Stewart Wilkins or SSS Automotive to source engine parts. I think they are pretty strong though.
  21. Anyone after a KE36 wagon parts car or project car? I had a look at one this afternoon that has a 5K and a 5 speed. Body is average with quite few spots of bog, seats seemed to be OK from the peer through the window I had. Guy wants $500 for the car which seems ok given the mechanical package. PM me if you want some details.
  22. We don't have yearly inspections in vic either. When you sell a car the new owner has to have a road worthy in their hand to transfer the car into their name. Thats the only time that it would get checked. So there are no guarantees the car has been looked at in the last few years by vicroads. What is the engine change?
  23. 150 kmh according to gearing/rpm/tyre size.. not that fast but fast enough!
  24. Car performed like a champ all weekend at the Winton 6 hour. Not a thing went wrong and she was faster and performed better than ever. New front tyres got rid of my braking problems and my thoughts of steering or geometry issues went away with it too. The car is a giant killer (thanks for that line Timbo!!) and if I do manage to sell it I am going to miss it a great deal. Here are some pics and in-car video links (sorry to any one who has seen them already in the 6 hour thread!) Team shot New sticker.. its staying on I reckon! On track Lifting a wheel (I got a mention at the presentation ceremony for being one of three cars that did it constantly all day!) Ian hard at work doing a sash change In car race footage session 1 In car race footage session 2 In car race footage session 3
  25. Car looked good on the weekend at Winton. How did you go?
