Bathurst Globe 4x114.3 Convert To 4x100
silverra23 replied to ae95- wagon kid's topic in General Mechanical
I would also think that the wheels you are looking at will be a rear wheel drive offset, and you are looking to fit them to a car that runs front wheel drive offset. This is a bad idea and can ultimately lead to issues with bearings and god knows what else. Looks for wheels in the stud pattern you have, what you have is going to cause trouble, and be illegal and uninsurable. -
Anyone want a manual KE70 - there is a stolen and recovered one going at auction http://www.pickles.com.au/damaged/vehicle/...2153120/lotid-0

Here is that thread.. it was still on the front page! http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=35852

Phil's seems to be a reseller of the rubbers from Thailand. Have a bit of a search. This was covered about 2 weeks ago for a KE10 I think. General consensus was that the Scotts Old Auto Rubber / Rare Spares stuff was a million times better than the gear from Thailand, but you pay for it.

Battery is first stop. Then pull your plugs out and rub the electrodes with a bit of emery paper. Chances are you have fouled them with all this over fuelling etc. Then crank it and don't give it more than one stab on the throttle.

centre rd today.. three ae71 slant fronts... the ae71 wagon still there... various ke30/35/55's not sure that anything is new there. some kind of weird late model crown or something with a wild body kit... in the car park ready to be brought in was what looked like a relatively straight ke36 wagon though i didnt stop and have a look

It was a moderately productive weekend with Mr Hanky, despite the crap weather! Hired a rug doctor from the local safeway and gave the interior a good carpet shampoo. It came up a treat! Also replaced the dodgy chopped springs with the standard ones that twentyeight supplied with the car. dfunkt reckoned the stance was all wrong before... how about now?? dragster!! Clearly need to get good springs into it front and rear after rego inspection eh?!

The conversion guides I have read all said 14's were necessary.

G'day all Victorians This event is a good one to put in your diaries now. By far the biggest car show in Victoria, there are usually so many cars that you can't get around to see them all in the time available! Its held at Hanging Rock, just north of Melbourne, on February 14th (very romantic valentine's day!!) The Celica guys on toymods usually organise a bit of a convoy in so they can be all parked together. rollaclub guys might consider the same thing or even joining the celica guys. They do knock back late models so its probably going to be more KE's that they would take in the show, but its worth the drive up for a look regardless of what you have.

Leaf springs certainly present more challenge for setting a car up for the circuit. There is no easy adjustability, and if you want to do it properly, each time you want to make it softer or stiffer, you really should be talking about new leaf packs/reset leaves. Of course there are ways around this - reversing them, adding or removing a leaf, etc etc etc. Not to say it can't be done - plenty of old Corolla's (KE20's and KE35's) running leaf spring rear ends and doing very well on the track.
-
Great looking car. Sounds like you need to go over the basics. Timing and general tune. When did it last have spark plugs and points replaced? Should do the air filter while you are at it if its dirty and possibly give the carby a good does of carby clean.

Easiest engine conversions are going to be a 2TG or 4AGE into one of these. They have been done many times so there is plenty of information on it. The corona strut/brake upgrade is excellent and worked really well in my track only KE35 Corolla They are a great fun little car on the track and easy to drive. Leaf spring on the rear is the biggest challenge - mine had serious axle tramp at times, and I couldn't get the corner weights perfect purely as there is no adjustability with the leaf. My thread listed in my signature might give you some inspiration too!

Nope.. unless you want to offer me $500 for it :)

It has a full air-con set up...in the boot! Will get around to fitting it at some point I hope. Body is pretty good, though I think its had a recent respray and that may well cover all sorts of sins! Little bit just in the corner near the boot seal, thats it that I have seen though.

Collected my latest machine from twentyeight today... given its brown and my girlfriend thinks it looks like crap, we have christened him Mr Hanky! I was only half intending to buy it to be honest.. thought it would be a good buy under $1000 and put a bid in on ebay at $950... watched it creep right up to that number and thought oh well, its not meant to be... but the other bidder stopped at $948 and it ended up mine! Here I was thinking I was just helping Simon pay for the Crown by helping the bidding price up hehehe Not sure what I am going to do with it yet.. clean it up..rego it... put some decent lowered springs in it rather than the bodgy cut ones it has in the rear... fit the air-conditioning...maybe a decent steering wheel....I hear the $$ flowing from my wallet already! Anyways first step was to slot a set of Enkei Crossfevers on to it that have been taking up space in the garage, which were originally acquired for the race car. Before and After shots

Silvo it is then! Cheers :)

I don't think they had time to muck around! Pulling something together like that in just a month's time is a bit of a challenge I imagine :) -
What are you using to polish all the chrome? Its coming up very nicely.
-
Great pick up. Keep it stock - with that kind of mileage its only going to get better with age :)
-
Good info. Variations on that theme which are pretty common are the RT132 strut which is the same as the XT130. Hilux 4 spot calipers bolt to the corona strut And if you want a new master cylinder then a Pajero one can be bought off the shelf for not much money at all.

When I bought my rubbers off ebay - seller was in Thailand but I forget which one - the door rubbers were good. Windscreen rubbers looked fine but I never actually used them. Boot rubber was a stick on piece of crap that was a waste of time.

They are all full now. Thanks for making this a sticky mods. Hopefully a few of us will be able to go down for a look even though its not for the public. Will post some photos if I can :S -
Run it I reckon. Importantly, did you hit yourself in the head with the steering wheel when you pulled the original one off? If not, you aren't doing it right  hehe
-
Mate buy yourself some black VHT vinyl dye... that will sort out any vinyl parts in the car. You can buy plastic trim paint too. Cheap and looks good if you take your time.

TCCA Club Meeting is on this Tuesday - Bells Hotel South Melbourne at 8pm. We are usually at Table 8 having dinner from about 7pm. Looks like we will have Peter from Toyota coming to chat about his plans for the Toyota Australia factory display mentioned else where, so it might be a good opportunity for people to talk to him about their car.
