I agree this car certainly has a presence either sitting still or on the open road. Now don't ride the ke too hard :no2:

Hahahaha no this time I was driving mums Magna, grandpa enough? Preety relaxing to drive. Dave didnt have a clue who it was in front of him as I had the Magna, when I was waving and turning he was like :|, then when we went down Springvale Rd he pulled up beside me and was like Oh yeah hows it goin' and motored off. Um what else did I see :hmm: A silver ae71 csx parked at pick a part - force of habbit I looked through the window and it was the cancermatic stick popping through the floor. And coming down Lower Plenty rd towards montmorency was a really nice red ae86 sprinter with some 15" wheels parked and ready to be rammed up the arse from some twit too :glare: Should be in a carcoon.
-
Yes I've seen the exclusive photo too :laff: Have to love the 80's!! Coming back from Kilsyth pick a part I'm stopped at the lights near Doogs' work so I look for his Stanza to no avail. Out of habbit I always look in the rear view and who pulls up behind me. Mr TE278U with his schmick ke38.

Here it is, cleaned off all the grime thats accumilated over time and will be popped in when I see the car next. Should I relube the small plastic knuckle on the end of the stick where it enters the box?
-
Went for a drive to Pick a Part in Kilsyth on the hunt for a full lenght gearstick for a k40 and found one  Its out of a 4 speed slanty front but I can't see any issues of it not fitting in the early model (flat front) gearbox. Just took the stick after unpopping the circlip. Unsure whether you clean it up as its preety dirty or just leave it as is, either way I'm happy with the purchase.
-
Hey Ryan, Thankyou very muck for the offer but the 4 speed is all I need, I appreciate your consideration :)
-
It definitely wasnt an upspec option. Like you said, there must have been a shortage on local units so they ran to Japan for a rear end. Prior to me detailing my ke70 undercarriage, the diff had and in some places still has the red brush marks where bolts and nuts were tightened. It was a practice Toyota did on its mechanical components when they were built on the line. I'm guessing like a quality check. But as I mentioned, 99% of standard ke70s running around both flat and slant fronts have the Borgy diff. Toyota and its tricks.
-
So was it the big hair you hated Parrot :laff: I can understand you're discontent. Its like when I'm the ke70 or ae71 and I see some ungratefull bimbo on P's driving a tacky Korean built Barina with those stupid stickers plastered on the windows which was probably given from the parents.
-
Mr Baker you are aware I have standards. Laymans terms "fussing" would be appropriate :laff: I glad my ke70 is worthy enough to be on the steal list Now its our little secret, or i'll chase you with the wooden spoon  You'll need to find the car first before you grab it.

It sounds like a lot of work but isnt, The roof is perfect only the pillars a tad thin so blend it in with the red and continue the blending onto the boot, bonnet doors etc, etc. The car is straight however the little dents and shiny paint don't do it justice up close. Doing this will make it better :y:
-
No worries at all, I noticed yours is an SE so I thought i'd ask. Yeah the little ke is nice  you'll love it in the flesh maybe next meet or I might come down your way to say hi and give it a run.
-
don't be cruel Jarrad, clean Sigmas that are original or lowered slightly with appropriate wheels look rather sleek comapre to the equilivant Coronas. Sigma with Toyota reliability would be nice. Still i'd rather my boxy e7 anyday :)

Went to see my uncle as the AE71 needs some rust cut out, he does professional panelbeating and spary painting so he's preety thorough when it comes to finish. What needs to be done.... Rusty Bits .Remove rust from LH rear wheel arch (inner and outer) and bottom of 1/4 panel. .Remove rust above both rear tail lights and weld in replacements and a wee bit on the bottom of the beaver panel above the bumperbar. (caused by leaky boot seal) over time. Dents . There is one irratating dent on the LH front passenger door, so that will go along with some little dents around the lock barrel, back RH door small dent, drivers door is small dent and on the bonnet and boot lid is three small dents. Now paint is thin on some edges of the car, like A pillars one c pillar, bonnet hump and front guard so my uncle will blend the paint into the areas there no worries. Then the bonnet, boot will get a good few coats and so will the rear beaver panel and doors to finish off the small repairs. It sounds daunting :( But it will definietley be worth it so I will be really looking forward to it

If the bumpers begin peeling don't paint them, you need a proper plastics paint called bumpercoat. It was recommended to me from another member and its very effective. I'm guessing you may have used export gloss black :hmm: with no prepping before hand. Either way it will peel/flake off and when it does clean it again and spray it with bumpercoat. :y: If you can, take a pic of the diff so I can whether its an Aussie borgy or a jap diff. For some unbeknown reason some flat front ke70's in SE spec like yours and mine mysteriously came out with jap diffs, and in my case it has a t series thats compatible to having an lsd centre... I have seen two other original ke70 in SE trim getting around with a t series. How did you come across this car, did you door knock or just find it by fluke? And when do you get you're P's  Edit Here is my 70' and the front and rear bumper have "forever black". Its a black dye you apply with a sponge tipped bottle but the surface mut be clean as before you even put this on. Its tedious to do and bumpercoat should be muck easier to use. But the finish is mostly the same. Just to give you an idea

What about "Muckowt" its produced by Tectaloy and is used for problems like this you are experincing. Apparently it gives the system a good ol' clean out after you run it in there for 20 mins or more. There is more info on their products page. Just last week i flushed my ke70 cooling system as i thought i may have had a blocked rad, it wasnt blocked but sticking the hose down the thermostat then up the bottom hose outlet did it wonders after six shots. Did the same on the rad and it runs like a champ and keeps its cool. And yes gurney the hell out it for good measure :y: Some food for thought.

That van your takling about is the one I saw parked near Makin and Luby Hyundai in Heidelberg. Sigmas look tasteful if immaculate, or mildly styled i.e wheels. Much better than a Corona in my opinion.
-
Its definitely been shortened, Baker had a gawk when he was down last week and agreed also. This may be a clean original ke70, but back in its day it had quite a few visual things done on it.... that didnt suit my taste. But its becoming the way I like it
-
Hey guys quick update, got the ke70 clock fixed a fortnight ago. A solder behind the cluster was broken hence why the clock didnt work :glare: Main thing is that it woks again after 6 dead years  Flushed out the rad and engine cooling system, reversed fush and normal flush 5 times each on the radiator and motor for quite a while. Runs much cooler now  and so do I now worrying about it  When I was mucking around taking the dash and plastics out I kept looking at the shortened gearstick thinking it doesent look right. After comparing it to the ae71 it definitely needs the proper lenght stick. I have the specific knob that I hauded nearly 10 years ago as it was and still is relatively clean and shiny so its halfway there.. Most of these knobs lost the little shift pattern years ago, so its a lucky find for a 4 speed. Current stick and knob.

Ah interesting stuff Taz :y: , so is that the k bell housing coupled up to the w sereis gearbox? I havent really paid much attention in to this topic before so its rather interesting to see what combinations work well as a whole. Thanks. :)
-
Thats a very nice and clean little slanty you have. Nice to see a overrated finished metallic paint job. Colour coded hotwires look very tasefull too. :y: :y: Keep it covered if you want it to look like this for a long time.
-
A mild or hot 7k will chew up a k40 or 50 eventually. These boxes are made for light Corollas to tolerate the lower outputs of a 4 or 5k. A W-56? Townace box is the wisest choice as it can handle the torque produced along with the capability to move a commercial rated load too. So atleast if you have a hot 7k backed with a w series you know the chances of it breaking are very slim. And Mr 78 7k rolla broke one or two k40 or 50 gearboxes behind the 7k.
-
Ah yes Evan, I completley wrote the opposite to what I thought. 7k is physically wider than 5k, I was aware the sump required modding but wasnt sure to what extent - hence why I suggested a little further :y:
-
True I'm from Melbourne as well, however I get the feeling Adelaide is much, much more harder. From what Ive read (and S.A members please correct me), but if you're car goes to regency three times is it permenantly defected and deemed undrivable? On the flip side though, they don't have to worry about roadworthys like Melbourne does.
-
Reading somewhere else on rollaclub said that normal k40/50 gearboxes arent the best to have bolted behind the 7k as the amount of torque produced is over what the box can handle. Unless you source a W series box from a Toyota Townace $$. 78 7k rolla has this conversion properly and it has paid dividends as far as drivability. 5k physically smaller than a 7k, so no sump modding is required. Secondly they are more rev happy as well torquey over the 4k. Especially if you have a set of carbs, camshaft, head work and exhaust done. If you want torque, go 7k but as far as revving ability most of their grunt is produced dowm low. As you'd know, there are numerous threads on here that will answer you're questions better than I  Good luck :y:

If you are in Victoria Regency isnt relevant, though you may have heard of the term "Canary" Its a bright yellow piece of paper stuck on the windscreen saying the car is defective. I have not had one so I can't speculate what else is written. That is what Victorians get. :fuzz:
