Alrighty some more photos, spot putty sanded down and sprayed over. Front door handles removed (little bit fiddly)and the dents above the handles are gone. Wire wheeled two small spots on the boot seal, masked up the boot lip area and gave it a coat of etch primer. Next is to enlargen the two holes in the passenger door skin for the left hand mirror. Looks like the dealership just drilled two holes and put some self tappers in there :n: So the plan after drilling will be to put some plastic bushes in there (the type which clips in and expands when the self tap taps in. More of a secure fit. Photos courtesy of my cousin Matt. Car now has green patches, grandma thinks it looks the business :y: One last wet rub, mask up and she's ready to go, in the meantime ill clean the front and rear bar a freshen up :y:

Bit more work done :) Took of headlight frames, tail lights and washed down most of the disassembled interior trims and stored in the car. The fitment of the back passenger door is much better now as it sits just about flush with the front door. You could see the difference when looking from the front to the rear of the car where the leading edge of the back door was sticking out a tad more... A minor adjustment of the bolts which go inside the door frame cured it to a degree. The striker plate for the front door I brought outward 3-5 mm and the improvement was almost instant. The door catch grabs fine, no clashing between the lock and striker so it must be right. Gave my uncle a hand rubbing down the repaired spots, flawless is the only word to describe the finish so I'm very pleased! I also got back a metal section with the match and finish of paint which is going to be used and its going to be good. Nearly every e7 owner will notice above the front door handles there are always shallow dents from thumb pressure? My uncle noticed them and the time he took to repair both sides, so gently bringing the dent up, lightly tapping it flush, sanding for high/low spots more correction, lightly filling, curing, filing, sanding for a perfect finsih and priming was pretty damn remarkable!, Its like nothing is there. After repairing Euopean makes and models he seems to be enjoying working on this one. No camera again, I will update photos later on :)

This is definetley one of the cleaner e7s getting around, was good to catch up too. Did you wash down/polish the side of the car after removing those silver stripes? Looks shinier. Keep up the good work :y:

Yeah I'm serious Sam, unless fb had a glitch :n: Normally takes ages for me to upload anything. I managed to find a pic of one many years back in Tassie with 50,000 on the clock. Identical except for the interior colour but its the benchmark for the ke70 to exceed. Really looking forward to seeing it complete again. Thanks Justin, I remember telling you last year when I was looking at the 92's Ill just buy one and daily it.... and that'll be it! Its one those things, for me anyway if I see good condition things like that I can't help myself by adding goodies to it :blush: I must say my hair dosent get messed now! Well June will be the 6th year I have been the sole driver, and I thought it would be good to give the car the attention it deserves. While the car was more than acceptable for most people it had niggles (now identified in the current photos)that have now been rectified. Being fair dinkum its going to be more original now than it ever has been. The paint on the roof, bonnet and boot is A1. So the paint will be blended from the c pillar vents down in te rear while the rest of the car will have it done from the beltline. It'll be a seamless finish. The paint has had the tinters and multiple checks done so its getting very close. Audio side its got an old enough headunit and graphic equalizer which work great. The only other things its got is the full lenght centre console and tray under the glovebox like a cs, but alas they will stay. The only thing I will need eventually will be the dark blue gear stick surround as mine has a switch fitted to it. But we'll see.

I sent you a facebook message! I was waiting for a reply and all *sigh* I was thinking about you... in a car related way :wink: Factory options to go back on the ke70? Definetley the mudflaps and maybe, just maybe the weathershield :y: I already have the headlight covers on and venetian inside. The plain stock standard look has really grown on me, given how fresh it'll look once its done will it stand out in its own right. And the chrome dress rings will be coming off too, then Ill sand the stepped dish part, wash it with prepsol and undercoat and give it a coat of aluminium as the clips have scarred the paint.... but thats last though :) Definetley come down to a cars, coffee and donuts meet. You'll enjoy it.

That repair looks great, nice feathering of the filler too. I'm in the process of doing a similiar thing too. Those mag wheels look pretty good :y: Keep the updates coming.

Oh come on Paul don't be like that :laff: Pictures are thanks to my cousin as I forgot the camera :n: Went back to pick a part today in hope of finding a decent bailey channel if thats what its called? Saw a blue flat front xx and removed the chrome beltline trim and guess what..... the bailey channel is part of the chrome assembly unlike the se which is a plain black sprap of rubber. Anyway after some persuasion I pulled off rust free clips from all the doors and cleaned them up further when I got home so now I need to fit them to the existing "se" spec bailey rubber. Coat of etch primer after sanding. (With the window up its that really dark strip at the bottom) :wink: I also grabbed a couple of badges, the current se one on the car was worn so now I have a nice chromed lettered one in like new condition, came off a ke55 but its the same as a ke70 and also an unusual gl badge from the blue xx. The car was an adm model which mustve had a replacement bootlid during its life. Its not the first JDM badge ive grabbed from there, many years ago 10+ I used to collect this sort of thing, mainly now its the rarer things. Later on drove down to Kilsyth Pick a part and grabbed a weather shield for the ae92 so it dosent mess my hair :laff: Thats all to report.

Were you at pick a part kilsyth just after 3pm today? I saw a two young guys coming up the toyota section with a carby which caught my eye. Both of the e7s which were there were 1.3. Did you pull it from an ae82? How keen would you be on manual running gear? Would you be prepared to trailer away a wreck with full running gear?

I can't blame you, at least its justified on yours being a cs model as thats what it had from the factory. Mine being the se was plain, plain, plain and then later fitted with what has been seen on here for all those years the stripes, wheel arch moulds, body moulds, electric antenna blacked out panels etc, etc. Looking forward to it being plain.

Its had me puzzled too Reed, the door wouldve been hung right from factory with the stripe fitted later from the dealer. Then for whatever reason the skin got painted from the stripe down and then hung as it was previously in an attempt to make the stripe line up. While it was noticable where the lines in the body didnt line up it never stood out unless you picked for it. When I initially lowered the b pillar hinges and got the door alignment correct the matching of the stripes was way off which prompted me to remove them. I quite like the look of a plain ke70..

That looks neat, I remember seeing the other thread where you had it sitting under a tree. Definite improvement, so are you retianing the original plates? Even though the rego has been out for so long time it should still be okay to re register with that combination. It may cost a few $$ more but it should be so-able.. Good to see its gone to a r.c member? Where abouts in Melbourne are you?

Update time... It was mentioned in a earlier post the rear passenger door was not aligned properly which is true. Now lowering the door and getting the shut lines was reasonably okay with the help of a jack, but a small problem... the pin stripe wouldnt line up with the front door would it!? After listening to peoples opinions and thinking over the initial plan of keeping the stripes I have decided to remove them permenantly along with the moulds. Removing them was okay albeit time consuming, and the washing up of the glue with thinners made this stage complete. That was two days ago, today I removed all the door trims and bagged the relevant bits and pieces into groups. Then slowly peeling away the water sheeting in the top corner out came the exterior door handles and a bailey channel on the drivers door as the metal clips were corroding onto the door, I masked up the window pane and belt line of the door and rubbed it back and coated it with 3 coats of etch prime. Luckily it was coming off for the respray anyway so now I'm in the process of getting a cleaner replacment. The front beaver panel I took off and rubbed back and wire brushed on the raditor side as it was oxidised before giving it a good coat of etch primer. The fuel filler recess is now finished with the final touch of drip check, the repaired areas need a rubdown before the sides, front and rear get the final one again. Then it'll be the masking up time and then paint. Stripes removed. Beaver panel removed. Passenger mirror removed and in the process of doing the chrome door handles. Drivers side again. Not that you can really tell but the rear door is now aligned :) Its getting there.

Welcome Sam, Where abouts in Melbourne are you located? Going by the photos and street only parking I'm guessing maybe Brunswick/Coburg area?? Its a great tidy car i'd seriously consider putting away some $$ to repair that damage properly. Once you cut away the damaged areas theres not much left of them in the rear. Will it be an undercover car, or street parked? Ive got one identical, white se little rust always (above tail light) always garaged. Just doing dent removals around the rear 1/4 panels so the rust prone area have been stripped and thankfully its all clean but as I said do it once and do it properly. There are few e7 enthusiasts so keep the updates coming :y:

Nice work Luke, I didnt even realise that was the rh wheel arch until you said. I admire your patience and determination as it required a lot of it! :y: Thats pretty good going 18sec time for a 2a, the 4a's back in the day were capable of around 18.5 or a tad less.

Okay this weekend was rather productive, a big thanks to my uncle for the work he's put in so far on the car. As I mentioned in the previous post there were quite a number of dents around the car which to the average person were probably insignificant.... anyway there gone! Even in the state its in now with the repairs it looks much better. Hammer, dolly, oxy, a bit of welding and shrinking and time and its come so far. The horrible antenna is now gone so there are no external holes, as the original one in the front rh guard was plated many moons ago which I'm leaving like that :y: In the meantime ive pulled out the tail ligts, boot garnish, rear numberplate and bar in preparation for the paint to be flattened when it gets sprayed at a later date. Then it was just a quick reassembly as the car will be driven elsewhere for the later stages. Again it was the same affair for the front, with the removal of the nasty gloss black paint and lastly the sides of the car right down to the sills were sanded so the paint is flat. Took the old boot rubber and was suprised with how little rust there was under the rubber, maybe the mile trail length of sikaflex which bonded the rubber to the beaver panel kept most of the moisture out. Then with a blade off came any remailing sikaflex before moving on to the fuel filler recess where the old silastic had perished. Just need to give the recess a coat of primer before I apply the silastic last. The following adjustment will be the height of the back passenger door, it dosent line with the front door as the hinges have been tampered with who knows how long ago..... Picture time. Welded antenna area in 1/4 panel. Pretty clean. Front passenger door.. Left rear 1/4.

From the drop down box select the make and model and it will upload a listing of Corollas at both yards starting at oldest from the top :y: I done the old trick of phoning up but as they're in the office they can't tell you whats been pulled off the cars.

I like reading those sections of past cars which couldve been. Good pick up with the T-18 article Dave, It was marketed as a "macho machine" by Toyota but Wheels testers said otherwise. This is one of my own copies from Jan 1980, wasnt what you'd call a bad review, but wasnt the best either..
