we recently put a set of twin SU's on my car after a few months of it being off the road. Because they are su's we had issues with sourcing parts for linkages etc to set them up on my 4K. We also had issues with the needle and seat being shit, causing the float bowls to overflow onto the extractors. we took it to a speed shop to fix that, but everything else we did ourselves as my man's a mechanic. I agree with the whole lumpy cam, extractors and exhaust thing because i don't think my car would run without these with the su's on. Actually I think my car could now deal with a lumpier cam. the cam I have now was reground by crow cams and was the second grind up from mild, and it was very grumpy when it had the single down-draught weber on it. The twin carbs have smoothed it out heaps  hooking up a choke was a little bit of a hurdle, and we also slapped a regulator on as the car still has the original fuel pump on it. Anyway I don't know if any of this will relate to webers, i'd say some of it will... We've had the carbs on for a couple of weeks now, but have not got the mixture quite right, nor the ignition timing, pretty close but not quite. anyway we're fixing those this afternoon. Hope some of this helps :lmao:

That blue is awesome! It's very similar to the colour of my ke55. It looked good on my car when I first bought it cause I'd say the people who owned it before sprayed it to cover all the rust and bog that has well and truly come through in the two years i've owned it. Time for a new car me thinks... :)

hey i like your console and how the stereo and heater controls are all mounted. pity you didn't go with a toyota engine of some sort to keep it all neat. cut springs worry me a bit i would have to imagine that they would make it handle a lot worse, they are soft enough when they are whole. that being said i've never had enough money to go the whole way with coilovers and suspension that has been modified properly, so i just put up with things at the height they are from factory. but thats just me. robert.

The bigger the tip the deeper the note will be. Try and make the exhaust pipe as smooth and direct flowing as possible, mandrel bends are nice :S you will need a resonator and a straight through muffler as well. i'm not a big fan of "cannon" style mufflers, i've seen too many shitboxes with them. you would need two more cylinders to make it sound like a skyline. i don't like how six cylinders sound they are very muddy. i think four cylinders sounds a lot crisper and nicer, but thats just me. the best exhaust system i've seen was on my boss's impreza wrx sti. very smooth and straight, all mandrel bends, high flow cat, resonator and muffler, NOT a cannon... it makes 300kw at the wheels, and it sounds very tough when you get into it... Yeah, you'll be hard pressed to find a storage shed that's open that late anyway. And, seeing as though you are living in Northern beaches, your neighbors probably won't have much gratitude towards you when you're using a noisy power tool at all hours of the night :) I don't have that problem, I live in central western NSW, in a poor neighbourhood where people aren't quite as cranky and their house is at least 5 or 10 metres away from yours. :S Good luck anyways

You will be lucky to find anyone with a storage shed for lease that would actually let you rent it if they knew what your intention was. Plus, it's a bit difficult when most of the sheds only have 240v power and not 3 phase which you need for compressors etc. Although I am currently leasing a storage shed which my ke20 is sitting in right now. I was working on my car in it until I moved. It costs me 27.50 a week and I didn't let the real estate know what I was using it for. and as for the 3 phase power we just bodgied up an extension cord so that one end had a 3 phase power socket and the other had a male standard socket. As for the idea of setting up the sheds for people to work in for a profit (silverra23), I don't think it's such a bad idea. We had a business in Dubbo just down the road from where I was living a couple of years ago called DIY Mechanic. He had a few hoists and tools and a shed that you could lease out to do your own mechanical work in. I think it worked out cheaper than going to an actual mechanic, but I never went there as my boyfriend and my Dad are both mechanics so I have never felt the need. Cheers Kylie

Well I suppose those coil overs are out of the question. Shame for thinking I could get out of it cheaply Thanks for the help guys! -
Hi everyone I'm Kylie, 19 I live in Orange NSW, work at BP and doing a full time fine arts course at TAFE. I have 2 rides at the moment, one going, one not. 1. 1980 ke55 Sedan. Bright blue colour. Way, way, way, way too much rust, all over. There's a pic of it on my profile. It's got a 4K in it with a mildly reground cam, Twin Su carbs, rebuilt 12 months ago with 40 over thou bore and pistons, 3K head with upped compression. Electronic ignition, oil catch can, braided hoses, fuel pressure reg, extractors, 2 inch exhaust, black hotwires, black racing seats, sports steering wheel, temperature guage and tachometer, rebuilt radiator with an extra core, thermo fan, sony Cd player and 6" speakers held in a custom mount because the console was rooted. That's all I can think of for now, but as you can see, it's had a bit done to it. 2. 1973 ke20 2 door. multi colour. currently in the process of being stripped and painted the original colour orange. It's getting the engine and a lot of other bits from the ke55. Gonna look really mean, thinking about airbrushing on it. Doing the paint job, interior, tinting myself. Going to upgrade the brakes aswell. :poke:

That looks feckin' awesome! lol :poke:

Hi I'm looking at coil overs for my 1973 ke20 and I was wondering does anyone know what measurement the stock spring dimension is in a ke20? Does anyone know if you could modify a set of Toyota Passeo coilover springs to fit a ke20? The measurement of the inner diameter for these is 52mm. Be great if someone could help... :poke: Cheers

Hey I've been looking through the cruises for nsw, and they all seem to start around Sydney and end in Blue Mts/Bathurst/etc. Now that's a problem for me because I live in Orange. I was wondering if there's anyone else on here who lives in this area who would like to have a cruise From this way out?

Name: Car: 1973 ke20 2door Motor & Driveline: did have a 5k in it when I bought it but didn't go. Once bodywork is done, the 4K out of my ke55 is going in it. Rebuilt 12 months ago, 40 overthou piston and bore, 3K head, shaved, mildly reground cam, electronic dizzy and coil, twin SU caburettors, oil catch can. Standard driveline, looking at a locked diff. Suspension & Brakes: Looking to put bigger brakes on the ke20 and some coil overs. Wheels & Tyres: 13" either the black hotwires off my ke55 or rechromed mags off of an old graveyard ke30. Interior: Black bucket racing seats, black and white/orange trim, sony cd deck, 6" speakers, 6x9 speakers, maybe a couple of 10" subs as well. Dash was cracked completely into three, currently down at Bendigo dashboards being a donor for a mould for my new dash :) Body: Currently stripped back almost completely to bare metal. Going to paint it the original orange - it looks sweet! There were 3 different layers of different coloured paints on the thing. Need to organise some oxy bottles so that I can weld up a little bit of rust holes here and there. Other: as you can tell this car is still in the project stage and has halted recently since moving from Dubbo to Wollongong to Orange. It still being back in Dubbo in a storage shed and us having no money to go and get it and nowhere to put it at the current stage. ;) So I'm organising trims and tinting at the moment. Wanting to do it all myself. Ah satisfaction when I finish :hmm:

Love my ke55 because you don't see many older cars on the road, the engine's a blast to do up and the body shape is awesome. Hate the excessive amount of rust below the taillights, in the windscreens and wheelarches, on the a pillar.... They look really mean though!

Hi guys My boyfriend ahs recently made a really sweet set-up on my 1980 ke55 Sedan. We put a set of twin SU's off a mark II jaguar with a lynx manifold onto my modified and rebuilt 4KC engine. It took a while to source all of the parts as there were no linkages with the carbs when we got them so we had to clean and rebuild the su's and source all of the cables and throttle linkages etc, which was a very lengthy process due to the guy who was supposed to be getting them all for us being drastically slow and getting nowhere. Anyway it's all on the car and hooked together. but the fuel pressure (we think, robert's a 3rd yr mechanic so he should know what he's doing) is pushing the needle and seat too far open and letting in too much fuel, hence fuel is overflowing. this isn't good as the carbs are above the extractors and it would not be good if fuel spilt on it when it's hot (bye bye car :hmm: Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has put twin su's on their engine's, as i'm interested to know. I'd like to know if anyone else has had the same problem. I think that a fuel pressure regulator would solve the problem but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with su's on a rolla, and if the stock corolla fuel pump will deliver enough fuel to the carbs? Kylie
