A Bit Of Advice

nah we're running out of power so i think our lack of supply will do that for us hopefully engineering design. Probably the dream of most mechanical engineers but ive managed to do pretty well in design and manufacturing papers so it should be alright. All we have here for mech are building services. there are some firms but they botique type operations. -
hey all, I'm a kiwi uni student about to finish this year and looking for jobs. So far most of the offers have come from sydney, melbourne and perth. Just wondering, what cities, states are best for the car enthuisast. If i move i want to be somewhere where i can pick up a reasonable k series corolla and expect to keep it (don't know if uve heard but in christchurch there has been a wave of theives either stealing or molesting k series corollas and starlets) and also just about living in each city cheers

my dad has a kings ransom in some kind of bug and tar remover/brake cleaner type stuff. I just did a real lazy ass job with hammer and chisel, then just sprayed it over and over and over again with the cleaning stuff. Probably the most expensive way to do it I also turned slightly pyro and set the shit on fire by pouring kero on it. Works ok, but do it in small sections

$300!!! damn scam artists. They would clean it up and turn around and sell it for 5G the next day!

Sc14/12 Supercharger On A 4k
tenyearguarantee replied to [email protected]'s topic in Engine Conversions
I was talking about torque low down, anyway with just a cam and a piston balance and 100hp atw? id love to know who built this engine. I mean thats at least extra 40hp atw from what they are supposed to run out of the factory with. -
Sc14/12 Supercharger On A 4k
tenyearguarantee replied to [email protected]'s topic in Engine Conversions
when you got 230 was that just based on airflow calcs or was it on some engine that you played around with heaps? could i get some details on what is required for that sorted of output? -
Sc14/12 Supercharger On A 4k
tenyearguarantee replied to [email protected]'s topic in Engine Conversions
superchargers are not very thermally efficient, the newest roots max out at around 75%, most older roots brand new max at 65%, second hand who knows, 50%? they give nice low down torque which is why people use them, i don't think you'd get so much of that if you ran n/a, you'd have to increase the stroke or something. They have a nice sound too which is pretty cool. You could try a centrifugal s/c, they are small like a turbo, look like a turbo, almost as efficient as a turbo and don't require the throttle to be moved like a turbo. they only really shine at higher revs tho like a turbo, so you may as well go turbo... -
Sc14/12 Supercharger On A 4k
tenyearguarantee replied to [email protected]'s topic in Engine Conversions
the sc14/12 are roots so the throttle needs to be moved to before the blower blowing through a carb requires some thought as they wont have been made for extra pressure you'll need a custom plenum etc. Mounting is a small issue, selecting your pulley diameter for your crank to ensure the s/c runs well for your desired rev range and makes power when you want it and belts require a small amount of thought, not alot. if you have the appropriate carb and plenum then the hard work has been done -
Sc14/12 Supercharger On A 4k
tenyearguarantee replied to [email protected]'s topic in Engine Conversions
a rough calc is to take the power it has now, then multiply it by 1+(boost [in psi]/14.7psi) 14.7 is how many psi in a bar of pressure, you need to get a ratio of the boost added to the engine relative to normal pressure the engine is exposed to, ie standard atmospheric pressure = 1bar ie say you want to run 7.4psi at your engine and your 4k puts out 60bhp then the new power is 1+(7.4/14.7)*60 = 90bhp obviously due to losses etc you'd the boost at the engine will be less than the sc is putting out -
maybe its just an nz thing, but we use a ball joint remover. It just wedges between the control arm and the ball joint, a couple whacks with a hammer and it pops out. Arm stays on the car, easy as pie

Who Would Be Interested In Ke1x T Shirts
tenyearguarantee replied to Matt-e30's topic in Automotive Discussion
have a competition for the car on the shirt, make the prize a free shirt or something and get the entries posted on the website. At the very least there might be a nice wee post with a few hot ke1x's -

What Engines Fit Into A Ke11
tenyearguarantee replied to ke rollin 20's topic in Automotive Discussion
its not that crazy, they're small and powerful. To get similar power from a piston requires an engine larger than a rotor. Still i reckon that chucking a ridiculous amount of money at the standard 1.1L (or watever) would be freakin cool -
and long spark plugs
