  1. Ah you'll have all the answers after that then ;) Yea, I certainly think HKS goes that little bit further with their turbos. Everyone was ranting and raving when Garrett bought out their version of the HKS GT-RS, the GT2871R 52 trim. There was gonna be back to back testing and they were gonna show how much of a rip the HKS version was. The testing happened but the results never materialised (not in a timely manner anyway). The Garrett version is still very good, I've got that turbo myself, but the HKS version is still better IMO.

While I would agree if your site was specific to those objectives individually, a site targeting the range of objectives you might just be better off with one system. If you introduce individual systems for each specific objective you suddenly have 4 different moderating systems, 4 different potential security risks, 4 different systems to maintain, attempt to retain a common look and feel and integrate some kind of central authentication system. Think of the poor sys admins! Forums are fairly versatile, you can twist them around to be almost anything but I have seen some pretty shocking implementations (a forum turned into a shopping cart?). I might be able to do something like the stack overflow style just through templates and post ratings. I'll have a look but it can be just as much of a pain to maintain, every time they do a minor release the forum templates (usually) change and you've gotta spend a few hours going through reimplementing everything. I've been pondering this one for a while for the Rides area. Once I get the server move out of the way and upgrade to the next minor release I'll get the add on and see how it goes. Change is usually resisted, but I'll do my best to promote the move.
  3. Argghhh I hate this mouse. Its suddenly gotten an acceleration added to it for no apparent reason. I like my mouses linear, none of this stupid "oh we'll help you move FASSSSSTTTT". Its as bad as those bloody awful Razer mouses.
  4. Is this the HKS you're talking about? If the HKS exhaust wheel is non-magnetic then that would suggest its possibly INCONEL! Which is about as good as it gets for turbo wheels. I checked my inconel T28 wheel and its non-magnetic. As for bush bearing, I would suspect the HKS 2530s are all ball bearing but you're going to have to figure that one out.

Dave makes some good points. It pretty much boils down to which is easier for a newbie? Taking 30 minutes to read an introductory guide someone has painstakingly put together or spending 30 seconds to cobble together a barely comprehensible post and waiting for the silver platter? Also, who is going to put it together? Whenever this kind of thing comes up there seems to be this insinuation that the powers that be should be the ones responsible for putting others plans into action. If you want to suggest a course of action, I'm more than happy to provide whatever tools you might need to put your plan into action (within reason) but please don't just throw it out there and distance yourself from the actual implementation. I hope that doesn't read the wrong way, just some extra help putting valuable information together would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Amazon sent my books to the future :( Arrival Scan - September 2, 2030 11:52:32 AM Anyone got a DeLorean I can borrow?
  7. I love the engine to bits, but I don't have anything to put it into. The Silvias almost track ready again so I don't really want to f@$k that up. Glorious sounding engine though, I caught my father starting it and revving it one weekend :P I thought about buying a cheap auto NA 300ZX and building him a retirement car but I haven't got enough dosh to do that at the moment. I need to get rid of the car though because I need the space for a trailer so I might just strip the engine and transmission and store it for later.
  8. Its kinda pointless arguing about it really. There's nothing amazing about either side, its all a trade off. Want capacity? live with the weight. Want lightness? live with the low capacity. Throw engine loyalty out the door if you really want to win. Analyse what you need to win and use that. The WTAC results are interesting though, two turbo 4cyls followed by a rotary, two more turbo 4s, straight 6, turbo 4, rotary, V6, turbo 4. More than half the Top 10 is turbo 4cyl. The fastest V8 that's been at the event was 6 seconds slower than the 10th position 4cyl (I noticed they didn't come back this year). But that just means they suck (at the moment) at outright one lap circuit speed. The distribution would be completely different at a drag meet or speed trial event.
  9. I'm serious, it looks like this (but still in the donor car): Good for 1200hp with a freshen up, valve springs and turbos.
  10. Quadcam V8 SR20 stroker ;)
  11. Not a guru but I know how much it sucks having to get a base tune done yourself. You just sorta stumble around in the dark until you can figure out whats going on. Batch fire is going to suck, what kind of ECU is it? I'll see if I can dig out one of my old Wolf maps to give you some kind of idea of transient pulse widths. Its with 700cc injectors, but 4x290cc is bigger than that anyway.
  12. I have one in my driveway looking for a home for cheaper than a dinosaur crate motor.
  13. If the shit hits the fan and I have to make the switch I'm sure you'll be hearing from me Mitch ;). But I'm going to try and stick it out with the Haltech if I can, I really really don't want to spend more money on f@$king ECUs. Sick of dealing with the bloody things! Nothing in the car has let me down aside from ECUs so far. But I'll cross that bridge if/when I get there. I forgot about this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9UUWau0ajE Can't remember who owned the first GTR. Pretty sure the second one is Willo's old R34, then Mikeys old R32, Si's current R32 (300kW at the time) and me trying to keep up. You'll notice all the GTRs going into 4th just near the camera, I'm in 4th pretty much just past the corner exit all the way around to the dipper or even turn 3 on the limiter lol.
  14. Be realistic though, the aftermarket for 1G is well... virtually non-existent (I'm sure Andrew will chime in here one way or the other). SR20s? Well, there's a forged rebuild kit selling for less than $1500 (CP pistons, spool rods, MLS HG, bearings). (Buying) Power in numbers. Yea the noise is so-so (it was, bizarrely, one of Nissan's design goals for the SR) but I'm happy enough with mine. It can't compete with the noise of most of the Skylines at track days though.
  15. Oh well, if you get really stuck there's always sexy, sexy titanium: http://www.probolt-australia.com/Products/Titanium_Bolts_Flanged_Hex/TIHX1260FF Watch that wallet burn!
  16. I know we have a video thread, but this is just WOW! Make sure you make it HD and fullscreen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74mhQyuyELQ
  17. New servers got rollaclub running on it (just testing), configs just about finished. Hopefully going to run on it through till at least 2015 once we change over. Also finally got a hosting quote I'm happy with! Good times.
  18. M or F series would be the closest. Any reason why you want to know though?
  19. This weather is fking awesome!
  20. Ah the mythical interheater. What a gigantic waste of time :S Looks like a good find nonetheless.
  21. So shades infected you too? There's already one getting around in the iRace series. I know the rims are a bit off in this shot, but he has a set that are more true to the original for display.
  22. You need to realise that if we pinned every thread that was useful, there'd be pages and pages of pinned threads before you got to anything current. Ok, an exaggeration but I try to keep the number of pinned threads to a need-to-be basis so you don't have to scroll through stuff you're not usually interested in to get to what you want. It also tends to make threads invisible... Annnyway, I'll find somewhere to stick it.
  23. Just to add to the last post, going for the bigger rotors wont necessarily decrease your stopping distance. The only real advantage is increased heat handling capability. That said, if you want a caliper to trial fit I could post you down a loaner when I pull my R33 GTSt calipers off Stu? Seriously considering a set of Driftworks Geomaster knuckles all round at the moment. The reason being, they would solve a huge portion of the suspension work the car needs. Roll center, geometry, bump steer, lower, increased shock stroke and quicker steering all in one hit. They are designed for drifters but aside from the ackerman change (which I'm still trying to figure out if its good, bad or indifferent) I can't see anything that isn't an improvement for grip. I was looking at them a few months back but dismissed them when I decided to move to a drum handbrake because I thought they didn't fit. Turns out you just invert the backing plate and bobs your aunty. Its just price stopping me now, $1300 is a hell of a hit to the wallet. I'll have to wait and see how much extra work the car needs in the shop before I decide. mitch-12: If I have to replace it or do a new loom I'm still not sure what I'll do. Motec crossed my mind though, had enough of dealing with half arsed ECUs, time to deal with the masters? I am bloody pissed off that Haltech don't appear to want to support a product that they only stopped producing a couple of years ago. A friend sent an E11 (IIRC) down to be diagnosed, it came back with some extra weight reduction and a note saying to buy a new platinum series. Needless to say, that cars now running a different brand of ECU.
  24. Taking bets on time till he sets it on fire :P
  25. If the ports are just round, hole saw slightly smaller then file/dremel out to the required diameter? Impressed with how fast you're moving. I'm half expecting it to be running in a month :P
