anyways i got bored just than and thought i'd have a crack at flaring a front guard.. first attempt ever and it wasnt as hard as i thought it would be.. not the prettiest flares ive ever seen but i'm not building a show and shine car now am i  standard passenger side: 5 minutes on the drivers side: also took a vid of what the car sounds like, it's misfiring a little bit and it has something to do with cylinder number 3, and it has an exhaust leak lol.. i'll post that up as soon as i figure out how. took the side moulds off one side, in bad need of a buff.. it has purple mirros on it now because i wanted something to remember my last ae71 that i wrote off by, and the drivers mirror was smashed anyways. AND i accidentally figured out an easier way of getting the old sound deadening up, before i was using a heat gun and a scraper.. but it's relatively cold here today and i was hitting a dent out of the floor pan and a big chunk of sound deadener came off .. after about 20 light hits:

awesome stuff thanks heaps for the replies guys .. i took tha car to tafe and did a couple of different tests to it, compression test, head gasket test etc.. the alternator has shit its self so ive bought another one.. and also the compression in it wasnt very good. 165 1st cylinder 165 2nd cylinder 145 3rd cylinder 170 4th cylinder it's definitely not a blown head gasket, any ideas what could be doing this ?

good stuff, anymore news about the twilight meeting in october? i'd be pretty keen to join the club and participate if i could find a way of getting my car there

haha thats insane !! obviously i want a fair bit of lock but yea i don't wanna be doing that.. thanks for the advise mate you've helped a fair bit .. i didnt want to go spending money on things that i didnt need, i have 2 grand to spare after selling a car and it's all going to go into suspension :rolls: check out my ride thread as to what i'm looking at buying and let me know if you think i'm wasting money on anything lol.
-
yep strictly track car. so i couldnt care less about noise or stiffness .. i just want really nice steering feedback :P will i need lock spacers if i'm putting T3 outer tie rods in ?

awesome stuff thanks heaps .. i'm taking the car to tafe tomorrow as it needs a wheel alignment anyways so i might have a play around with it and see what it feels like, eventually i am gettin a pair of these http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=665

oh.. well thanks for the replies guys, i realise that suspension geometry can get pretty tricky but i guess i will cross that bridge when i get to it! at the moment i'm thinking i'll be running about these settings for drifting: minus 2.5 degrees camber 2 degrees toe out 3.5 caster does that sound about right ?
-
what does caster do ? is that what makes the wheel come back to centre? like toe in i think its called?

sorry to rip up such an old thread but why start a new one ? how much weight is in a cage roughly ? say the $1150 one, just wondering as ive taken all the sound deadening out of my car and wanted to know if it was worth the weight loss to replace with a cage. also whats involved in getting it signed off for CAMS approval ? does the car have to be taken some where? keepi9ng in mind i live in the middle of nowhere

stripped off some more sound deadener today and painted the floor satin black, fixed up the fuel pumps so they werent just floating around the boot, stripped the roof lining and modified the rails for a racing seat

oh and i think i remember reading somewhere that a certain model of datsun come out with the same mirrors as your car, worth looking into (:
-
WOW !! this thing is so clean youve done an awesome job i remember reading this ages ago but havent seen it in ages .. I LOVE THIS CAR !!
-
4G63 oh shit yea :y:
-
started strippin the rear half of the rolla tonight.. i figure if its going to be a track car than why have all that extra weight ? found a pretty nice suprise when i lifted the carpet, someone else has already stripped all the sound deadening off and painted the floor flat black, saves me doing it :y: sorry about the crappy photos i only had an ipod handy

also welded on some fully hectic bonnet pins onto the other two corners of the engine bay so i can take the bonnet right off easily :P

new brake booster in. when i bought the car i was told that the brakes just needed bleeding, looked at the filler and it was empty, poured some in and it rub straight out the bottom, also ordered a new steering wheel, one of those deep dish suede wheels with the yellow centre mark.. been cleaning up heaps of wiring on the car cause its not the best. also priced up the suspension set up i'm going for at around $1800, which includes; FRONT T3 Adjustable Lower Control Arms (it says 'for ae86' will these fit an ae71 with 86 struts?) T3 Outer Tie Rods A J P S RCA's Tension Control Rods Adjustable Whiteline Swaybar - Already have lying around. A J P S 7kg Springs T3 Camber Tops REAR Custom MIG Differential Centre ;) - Sitting in the backyard  T3 Adjustable 4 Link Kit - Already have a pair of adjustable lowers but i want to get a full set of these as they also have Heim joints. T3 Traction Brackets (thinking about just making a set for $10 at work) A J P S Adjustable panhard (Also have one of these but want them for the Spherical joints) A J P S 5kg Springs Whiteline swaybar

buy some material from spotlight and get some old carpet underlay and do the trims ya self .. it cost me probably 8 bucks a door to do mine and they look... ok i guess lol.
-
while we are on the subject of camber .. what is a good amount of camber for drifting, before it gets to the point where its just pointless.. i'll only be going to about 20 drift days a year. i already have ae86 struts and am trying to keep it on a budget till i can afford camber tops, so I'm just looking for an easy bolt in control arm. also i remember reading a while ago a thread that had a list of control arm vs. camber in order. anyone know where this thread is ?
-
yea but a mate told me that you need some sort of licence card weather it be l plates p plates or full licence, oh well i guess i will find out tomorrow when i give them a ring.. and lloyd is in tazzy isnt he? id say rules are probably a bit different there
-
ahk thanks guys i hope i can get a track licence without having a drivers licence .. it's stupid imo, i think they should make track days/drift days a place where anyone can go (with an age limit of course) and go silly instead of them doing it on the street.
