+2 for this, I had mine short out on the starter motor itself and it wouldn't crank, thankfully cause of dodgey earths and old battery there wasn't enough current to make the thing catch on fire. Definately sounds like you have a permant short to earth somewhere.

Thought I'd update this again, have started to strip the replacement e35 and am very happy with the current condition of it compared to my old one. I've hit a bit of a cross road though.....Basically I plan on doing a full rebuild like paint, interior, new dash etc and I've seen a 3sge beams package with 6 spd box for under 3k, do you guys think it's worth doing that. I mean it's a fairly broad question and I know alot of people ask this type of question all the time, I don't mind spending a little bit of money and can do all the mechanical work myself. Apart from specialist things like machining parts and what not. So should I Beams it up or should I stick with the worked 5k for now (haven't driven it yet so don't know what the powers like). P.s. I know what's involved, as in diff upgrade, brakes, suspension and so on. Cheers

Head gasket goes between the head and the block, so no need to get a recond. head. Just take the head off and have a look, will take less than half an hour. Putting it back on with a new gasket will take a bit longer though as you'll need to torque the bolts up and do the tappets.

My 3k 3spd didn't have trouble doing that sort of thing, like blzbub666 said do a service and tune then go from there.

I would still recommend finding a distributor that's been changed to inductive or hall effect as they output a better signal. The kit can be configured to which ever you have.

From what I've read this should be in the wanted to buy section and a location would help us out a lot. I have a manual pedal box I just pulled from my 35, if your in Adelaide you can have them for $80.
