  1. Sorry, a bit behind this thread again. Semi related, but can't ignore opportunity to soap box: I think it is ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT when people at uni, or others percieve those that have uni quals, as "intelligent people". Seriously, IT ISN'T THAT HARD in most cases. It requires discipline more than anything else. The most intelligent people I know haven't spent a day at uni in their life. And some of the stupidest people I have ever met are the most academic. It's like God gave them academic smarts and there was no room left in their brains for common sense. Re: job vocation - for me it comes down to whether you enjoy what you're doing or not. Confucius said something like: Do a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. Formula: ( :D Well paid + good conditions + interesting work + nice people) MINUS ( :) Cost of 3 years of uni + 10 months unemployed +3 years in unrelated field earning shit money) = :D ????? I guess you can only tell at the end of your working life
  2. An alternative view: I went straight from high school to uni, and worked part time at a coffee shop. Working at a coffee shop isn't the greatest (cranky people and you have to clean up other peoples shit, including childrens vomit etc). I know there are worse ways to get yourself through uni, it wasn't fun. So, I was racking up a HECS debt of about $10K and supporting myself mostly via working after uni hours. I graduated and started applying for jobs..... *insert very long time here* I didn't get a job unitl 10 months after I graduated. This means that I was working in a coffee shop, wiping up peoples messes, arguing over coffees for 10 months after I had finished. Now THAT pissed me off. I was on the dole for much of it and it was very humiliating. In the end I was really REALLY lucky getting a job in the government that was completely unrelated to my degree (I studied environmental science) and about 4 years later I managed to get a job that was related to my degree.
  3. The road leading up to the accident site...
  4. I thought I'd post a series of pics that I got through the grape vine... They were taken on a phone by someone at the recovery site so they're not the best. This is an extract from what that person wrote in that email: "What we can figure is that Paul came over a sweeping right hand bend over a crest at over 150kph, he lost the back of the car which hit into the bank and rolled him a number of times over 200m! Both Driver and Co-driver where fine other than a burn on the hand from trying to move the exhaust from a fuel hose!! The car was Car 29 a Subaru Liberty RS competing in the Subaru RS Challenge" The Photos are also on: Pics I am so impressed with the efforts of the roll cage. It is amazing how great they are. Here is a BEFORE photo

  11. Yeah, unlike the previous 3 (?) years, the event has been POSTPONED (not cancelled) due to excessive rain. They're talking about having it again around July/August.
  12. Unfortunately we found some BAD in the extractors of the WRX. It is severely cracked, right near the turbo. It's been cracking for a while and has welded several bolts in places they need to come out of. Plus some of them are in places that you need to remove the engine so that you can get a grinder in. :) So we're OUT of the event this weekend as there is no way we can make it in time. Ah well, it was a big ask considering I just came back from Targa. :D I'm pretty disappointed though, but at the same time somewhat relieved. So Tony you can have service crew Teddy (if he wants that is - I feel like a pimp now!) but only on a temporary basis!! Instead I am going to consol myself by going to the Crusty Demons of Dirt world record attempt show at Queensland Raceway. Cool fun! But I'll be thinking of you rolla heads - good luck and hope you kick ass!!! :P But I'd like to reiterate that the Brisbane Sporting Car Club REALLY needs help, please consider.
  13. The rally needs rollaclub help!! Please, if you can spare a day to watch rally cars in the bush - we really need your help.
  14. I agree - it's great to see how many Toyotas have won ARCs in the last few years as opposed to WRXs. It is also grand to note that Corollas are currently winning the ARC again!! And I love how Toyota have a strong presence in the WRC also NOT!!
  15. Thank you, now that's more like it (phew). Good service crew are worth their weight in gold, you have no idea how valuable you are!
  16. Breaking down WRXs don't count
  17. NO HE'S MINE YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM!
  18. HEY!!!! Oh no you don't mister!! you're tagged for my team! :P Just arrived back today. I thought that KCF2 was on ... well... today, but turns out that there I had the wrong date. Anyhoo, as soon as I stepped out of the nav seat, I sent off the form for this weekend coming. We'll be there. Although this event is purely a teach-the-nav about pace notes, so we'll be well (further) off the pace. Teddy, I will talk to you during the week once I have things a bit more sorted. Literally walked in the door after being away for 2 weeks 1 hour ago. Don't go promising yourself to other teams!! *hurt*
  19. Yes, rallying is certainly NOT cheap. However, you could buy Dino (that 1600 I previously owned, much love for it) for $4K and do some really fun and relatively cheap things in it such as autocross and khanacross in the dirt. I have been in one of those Sigma races and they are INSANE. I was lucky (!!) enough to be passenger in one of the races but absolutely refused to get into the drivers seat. In *my* opinion, while you'd only spend $500 on a turn key package, it's bloody rough. Ie, there is LOTS of crashing (they do it on purpose) and you're not even required to have anything more than a lap sash. I personally believe its quite dodgy and only designed to try and suck you into spending the major $$$$ investing in a litre sprint car or something. I know I'm biased, but my opinion is to buy a cheap thrasher like a 1600 ( :P ), muck about in motorkhanas, khanacrosses, autocrosses and the like and then, if you feel the need, take it up a notch to the more expensive rallying end of town. Actually, you could get into rally navigating so that you get a real feel for the arena and you know what you're really in for!!! good luck (and I hope you choose a Datsun!)
  20. Tony, damned fine effort. I can't remember hearing so many stories about overshooting corners since my life!! I personally did about 4, so now I don't feel so bad knowing you (rally god) did too. But mine were at 2 spectator points, beat that!!! ha ha Overall though, I found it to be a good rally - the roads were indeed effing GREAT!! I lurve the fast flowing stuff, less so the twisty roads. Nice mix, good to see new roads.
  21. I'm not sure I can forgive that!! It's not the almighty Datsun's fault if they are so well known that everyone thinks that Corollas look like them!! But perhaps a forum purely about Corollas is not the best place to start that discussion, I may lose. :blinks: :D sorry!! but he started it!!
