Jason Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Yeah quick question are they legal? Has any body had any issues in passing RWC in queensland with them? Quote
Des Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I don't know if they are legal but dad always had them on his cortina's back in the day and a couple of my mates cars have passed rwc with bonnet pins so..... Quote
Raven Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 As long as nothing is protruding too high, I don't think you'd have a problem with it. Quote
flat out Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 there secondarybonnet restraints so i don't think there would be a problem Quote
demuire Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I've been told that they aren't legal (hazard to pedestrians if you happen to run a couple over) but most places overlook them for RWC anyway. My car passed RWC with a set on. Quote
Jason Posted November 19, 2006 Author Report Posted November 19, 2006 yeah thats what i was hoping for, my intercooler fouls the latch, and i herd about harzards to pedestrians. Ok so it should be to bad Quote
ancullen Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 (edited) You could always go the Ford Falcon GT style latches. I think the bronze bits attach to the support beneath the bonnet. The black & silver round bits below them are put in the bonnet (you'll need to make big holes). Then you use the screw in bits to hold it all down. Not sure how the other bits are installed. The whole mechanism sits almost flush with the bonnet, and you won't have big ugly pins sticking out, so it should be easily legal. EDIT: Oops, got those install directions wrong. I don't know how the bronze bits work exactly, but I think the black pieces at the bottom of the image are the bits that mount to the support beneath the bonnet. I think the pins slide through the slot in the piece, and then you turn it ninety degrees so it locks in place. Edited November 19, 2006 by ancullen Quote
Dan Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 They have to be flush-mounted to be legal in WA unless they are OEM equipment. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I think I've seen people put some rubber over them in case someone is hit they hit the rubber instead of metal.. Quote
love ke70 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 illegal as far as I'm aware. and even if you pass its a likely defect if you get on the wrong side of the ʇ~~ɔstabulary Quote
JiP Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I've been told that they aren't legal (hazard to pedestrians if you happen to run a couple over) WTF Whos gonna care about a bonnet pin after you've just mowed someone down. I think the car will do more damage to the pedestrian than the pin will. Quote
love ke70 Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 but the pin wasnt oem, that bumper bar that left them needing dual knee reconstructions was  so, you don't have to pay for the knee surgery, but you do have to pay damages for the bruise in their chest as they crumpled over and landed on a bonnet pin :) Quote
Des Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 If you drive a KE70 with stock bumpers you wont need to worry about there head getting anywhere near the bonnet, the bumpers are just so big. Quote
stax Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 If you drive a KE70 with stock bumpers you wont need to worry about there head getting anywhere near the bonnet, the bumpers are just so big. yeah good ol ke70 bumpers, prevent them putting a dent on the bonnet :) Quote
anastasios Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 yea they are illegal had them on my brothers ke70 and was told many times, the best ones are the gt ones that are flush, nothing can be said about them Quote
