kickn5k Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) When i started working on my ke 11 i realised that the 5k in the car is not the same engine thats out of say a liteace, For starters it runs 10.2:1 comp, a 5k-c waterpump needs modifying to fit the old pulley and so on. When i reaserched a little the only thing i could get anything from was the super long electrode plug and a denso plug book which does say the comp ratio is 10.2:1 it says its a 5k-j out of a KE 74 corolla any info pics would be great. The reason i ask this is after aus day long weekend its time to make power and I'm not real keen on modding her too much if its rare ill just buy a 5k-c and go from there and stash the other one away. thanks in advance stu. Teddy Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 5K-J was in a Ke74; being a Wagon. It was only released in Japan. Thats about as much as i know on it.. there were some brosures on them on ebay, but prices hit like 50? each - and i went F&*$ that for a joke :) Quote
Nitephyre Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 J = Japanese emissions as opposed to C = Californian emissions. the J's usually have slightly more power because of the lack of crap on them :) Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 J = Japanese emissions as opposed to C = Californian emissions. the J's usually have slightly more power because of the lack of crap on them :) Isn't U supposed to be Japanese emissions? Or did they change it somewhere along the line..... Quote

THANKS heaps for the info. Quote

Des Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 The J was autochoke or unknown pollution gear. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 no trying to pick holes but...... B Twin SU-style side-draft carburetors doesn't a 3k-b have twin downdrafts?? F Economy narrow-angle DOHC and isn't a 4a-fe a single SOHC engine?? Quote
Redwarf Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 no trying to pick holes but...... doesn't a 3k-b have twin downdrafts?? Correct. I think perhaps B and D maybe ack the front? and isn't a 4a-fe a single SOHC engine?? Nope, it' a scissor drive twin cam. Two cams and a heap of valves. ;) Quote
Des Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 4AFC is the economical twincam, More power than a 4ac but less than the 4age. 1st cam is drivin by the belt and the 2nd is drivin by a gear from the 1st cam, A very cheap engine and i rate them highly for a daily engine. ;) Quote

Taz_Rx Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 ah, well they say "assumption is the mother of all f-ups"!! I have just seen the width of the tappet cover on a 4a-fe and assumed it was a SOHC. ;) Quote
