NickZ Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) gee you people must hate my wheels then....I think 17" look just right on my KE30. i run 205/40/17 tires. yes they are a little bigger but not by much. Downside of these wheels is axle tramp as there is no sidewall flex. if i buy wheels again ill be getting a minium of 18" Edited May 28, 2005 by NickZ
Teddy Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) Set of 4, 15" will cost you $1,704.40 Australian without rubber, or postage to australia ! lol just get something old school which will suit the car, and spend your money elsewhere :)! ! Something like these? These are sold, but around the $550 mark- what you see, is what you get. Edited November 19, 2005 by Tiger
kangaroosa Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 lol just get something old school which will suit the car, and spend your money elsewhere :)! ! He's already spending $4000 on bodywork and paint. Numerous Dollars on custom interior and stereo install, and the car is planned to be a show car. I don't think he would mind spending a few more bucks on a NICE set of wheels - after all, its one of the first things you see. I hope you don't get offended, but both those wheels you showed were shite.
Teddy Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 the 1st set was more to show dish than anything. the 2nd set was more to give an indication to the erra of wheels i was talking about. Oh well. I guess i don't like rice on old school. There's always exceptions tho :)
Redwarf Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) I disagree. The BBS's do it for me, on an old school car. Meh. Beauty is in the eye..... Edited May 28, 2005 by Redwarf
Jason Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 i don't see how all chrome wheels can be determined as rice. yes a lot of them are. But the 1st set does not look rice. My view on rice, is how its used, anything can look good. (Except cheap fake bonnet grills etc), the right wheels can set it off. Same with some body kits.
Tiger Posted May 28, 2005 Author Report Posted May 28, 2005 Well, a good thing about the Momos is that they are available in 16"x7.5" and the 4/114.3 stud pattern. If I wanted to go 17" x 7" it is available also. Strong decision here. I wouldn't mind keeping the tough old school look, but I am redesigning a few things that WON'T look so old school... like the interior for example. So... that's what leans me towards wheels like the Momos. Nick, what dramas did/do you have with 17s on your rolla?
Tiger Posted May 28, 2005 Author Report Posted May 28, 2005 If I got the momos... I wouldn't get em polished. I'd either leave them silver... or if I chose to do my interior tiger/white... I'd get the momos powdercoated white. I've seen it on one of my mates old dattos and it looked like a true 4 cylinder toughie... But yeah, I'd prefably keep them silver. If I found a wheel that made the car look fat... I'd maybe get them in chrome. But nothing has crossed my mind as yet. And I'd only go chrome on 17s.... not 16s. It just ain't the same!
Tiger Posted May 28, 2005 Author Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) Kanga.... these grab your attention more? Because I don't mind them.... Edited November 19, 2005 by Tiger
Xany Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 pity those vaults look f@$king ugly. sorry....but i can't justify putting anything over 15's on an old corolla....ruins the look...plus what nick has already said. btw.....keep in mind most of the wheels you have posted have either no dish or very little...if you intend on running wheels with minimal dish, you WILL run into problems with the wheel hitting the strut. You'll need spacers depending on how much thickness you need.
demuire Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Of all the wheels posted, I don't mind the Simmons, both the ones Teddy posted, and the 2nd last one Tiger posted (5 spoke). I don't think any of the rest suit the car, personally. Yes you can "update" the look of the car, but unless you do something about the general body shape, it'll always have a hint of "old school" to it, so you have to at least sort ot stay with the era.

Tiger Posted May 29, 2005 Author Report Posted May 29, 2005 The more I look at the 5 spoke wheels I posted up last, the more I like em! I'ts got old school and new school look about em. Why, old school fact that 5 spoke wheels always look the goods, and new school about the smooth lines about them. Time for some prices I think.
coln72 Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Dunno, Only the Simmons have really grabbed me so far. Have you thought about getting a custom set made. Uncle was looking at this for his EH (mainly due to the offset required because of the narrowed diff). They were looking at Dragway Wheels, made here in Victoria I think Dragway Wheels On an old Corolla you need something with a bit of dish in my opinion. Actually anything RWD looks tuff with deep dish rims. Some of Dragway's billet rims may apply. eg.
kangaroosa Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) Kanga.... these grab your attention more? Because I don't mind them.... YEP - That wheel looks the best so far. I actually wanted something similar for my car, but couldnt get the right stud pattern. You got anymore info on those wheels? I want to look into them further. *EDIT* don't bother - I found them on Tempe Tyres. BTW - I thought here in VIC, the biggest wheels you could go are 2" bigger diameter than standard. That means 15". The first wheels pictured are Concept 5 Silver 16 x 6.5. This wheel is available in the following offsets +20,+30,+38&+40. We also make this wheels in shadow chrome and full chrome.
