Your Corolla

Ive been here for... what.. too long now, and ive gotten to know most of you pretty dam well.

Somethings have caught my ears and eyes latelly.. well not so much latelly, but here goes anway.

Most of us here, the regulars, have corollas - new / old / stock / not stock / rusty / K powered.. what ever it may be.

Do you own a corolla becase you like them? because you can't afford anything else? because of toyota's reliability?.. and why do you like your corolla?

I like my ke70, because of its unique shape, its reliable factor, the ability to get new parts for it.. well.. most of the time, its simialiries with the drifto Ae86 parts.. etc. Edit by me -> its RWD, and easy to work on.. i know it like the back of my hand, too :)

I don't intend on moving on from my ke70 for quite a long time.

Am i the only one here which actually Really likes there corolla? or are there others here which are on the same wave length as me ?

Meh, i duno... People and cars move on, but dam it goes quick sometimes...

Oh, to add on...

I work at toyota, ive driven a VERY large range of vehicles. New, and Old.

I still get into mine at the end of every day, and truely enjoy driving it.

No power steering. Old smelling interiour. Weber noise. Exhaust note.

But i have to replace the drivers seat.. the horozontal bar sticks into ma ass and its starting to piss me off :)

I first got a Corolla because it was one of the two old cheap plentiful cars I could get that was RWD (the other was a Gemini). I'd just rolled my Lancer GSR which I'd spent a lot of money on, at QR, and thus had no money, so was looking for something cheap and fun to get me around for maybe a year or two, before I could save up enough money to buy a CC Lancer GSR or an early'ish WRX. It was especially crap because I'd put a deposit on an Evo3 (well not exactly, but I'd verbally agreed to buy it), and the GSR was going to be sold to fund this purchase but of course, that didn't happen. I still wonder what it would have been like, if I had gotten that Evo.

I inteded on spending zero money on the Corolla.

But then, bit by bit, the bug bit me. And the Corolla was here to stay for a bit longer. And a bit more money was spent.

And then I bought Jamie's KE35, because it seemed like the logical thing to do, given I wanted to rebuild my KE55 anyway and make it faster. And now I've spent too much money on it to move on to anything else.

So to answer your question? No, I'm not necessarily a "big fan of Corollas" per se, but I like my Corolla. I also like other old school cars like old Dattos (1200's, 1600's), old Mazda's (RX3's etc) and some of the new cars. I'm still a big Evo fan (have always been).

ok, i started this, with my desires to own an FC rx7. now that i have no corolla, i have the opportunity to change manufacturers. here are the good points and bad points that i can see about owning:

a corolla

KE20hanslv.JPG

they're cheap. i don't want to get into much more debt, and i'd be happier owing money on things like race seats and lsd than a whole car which is just going to depreciate. and i also have lots of corolla bits already, which makes doing up another one even cheaper

i love the look of the ke2x cars, i'll always have a soft spot for them. owning a beautiful OLD old car (and 30 years is pretty damn old these days) is a thing to be proud of

part of me is sick of owning a rattly old car with things that break. i'm also sick of having to customise everything good that i want such as suspension parts

i know the damn things inside and out. they're not hard to work on, and i can do everything myself. i can't build my own rotary. i could learn, but it took me ages to build this 4k, and again to get it running well enough i was confident with it. i wouldn't be willing to spend another 20+ months doing the same with a rotary. and that's a bit of a defeat

an fc

rx7t2_1.jpg

expensive. i don't want to get into 12 grand of debt to own a car. i'd have to get a turbo one, which would make insurance impossible

LOOKS SO PHAT :D i don't know which i like better tho

rotary engine, stock. i like rotors, and i want one. sure you can put an n/a 12a into a ke20, but i like the fact that i can legally have a turbo 13bt fc, which i can't do with a corolla

bolt in parts everywhere. engine upgrades and bolts ons, suspension bits, coilovers, decent kits. it would be nice to just spend the cash and spend a day bolting some coilovers in, and get instant rewards

realistically, i can't afford an FC, it's just out of my grasp at the moment, so i guess it will have to wait till another day. i can always put an efi 12a into a ke20, which is my dream now :D with low suspension, lsd, quiet exhaust, comfy race seats. a real cruise car :)

lol, i always was the weird one :)

*gasp, i didnt think id ever say it - but don't get me started on generation 1 RX7's *

I figure, if i have a dream car, i WONT stop untill i have it, just how i like it. and lets face it, it would send me broke. REALLY broke.

I'm more than happy with my ke70! - it toes stuff, ive had alot of adventures in it, and its my first car :D

i also have efi turbo envy, but a 4agte is too common, and nick would never forgive me for a ca18det. personally, i think unless it's a dedicated drag car, a force inducted corolla is just way too much power for such a light package

a wrx or evo or skyline or something with well setup irs like an fc, sure. but not a shitty little snap-oversteering live axle corolla

The 4agze caught my eye :D

I didn't want to go FWD but i still wanted a relativity easy swap.. ! Ae71 :)

Also there cheap for spare parts and got a sleeper look.

I wanted a bogan spec Torrana V8 308 :D but then i though of fuel consumption + i couldn't even afford to buy one stock.

And now i love all the old school rollas :D

Dam Internet keeps cutting out :)

my third car was a s2 rx-7 12A 6 port... spent 5k on it to have the engine blow an apex 6 months later... of course stupidly at purchase time i didn't get the 1 year warranty for the extra $150...

i still wish i had it, and i will get another one in the future as i love the shape, it was an awesome car to drive and i love rotaries... but i'll also love my ke70's (2nd car) so i'm kinda screwed unless i get a nice $$$ job...

hah!

At first.....i didnt like the shape of mine. The VERY first time i laid eyes on my current corolla i thought "what an ugly looking car". That has now changed to everytime i see one i think "damn....i can't believe how good they look"....

my love for corollas has grown and grown.....now i would be hard pressed to cope if i smashed mine up.....touch wood....

i love my corolla....its moderately fast, easy to work on, easy to get most parts for....hehe

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent my love, Teddy. lol

When I was looking to buy a first car I was looking for a TA22 celica but eventually got impatient with finding a good contender, so followed up an ad for an old corolla just because I knew they were a reliable and cheap car.

So I get there right, its a KE70, except its got bright blue paint and dished mags, with a sunroof to boot. Cool! Get in.. f@$ked interior.. oh well what do u expect. Drive it... didn't really know cars back then but it sounded cool and didnt have any bad noises. Not fast, but again what do u expect. I buy it and am happy with a pretty cool looking daily driver, that is manual and RWD to boot. Oh and a sunroof. That feeling never wore off and evolved to the state I'm in now, catching myself looking lovingly at my car sometimes, pity about how tight the exhaust pipe is. Its just cool, its really original and interesting, it has a lot of soul. Its a bright blue corolla! Its super user friendly to tinker with. I even love it for no reason. I learnt to drive in it! The engine puts up with a lot of shit. If I crash it, oh well its either cheap parts or a writeoff that doesnt hurt my wallet's feelings too much at all. This car was a successful mass product for a reason and I am proud to have a modified version of what most people just have because its cheap and reliable. Corollas deserve a lot of love, they are good to us.

Part of my love for my car would be biased by the fact I have a good stereo and love music :)

love the ke1X because at the tender young age of 15, when riding my 2spd puch moped, i came across a ke17 sprinter.

3kc, red k40

love at first sight....there was nothing wrong with it when he parked it, just that he had a company car with free gas

well, it sat for 10 years, i put a half ass battery in it, primed the carb, and drove it immediatly home (on 10 yr-old gas, no less)

it used to overheat A LOT, so i traded it for a '66 dodge polara x-police car and regretted it the second i closed the deal

i found daisy 6 mos. later and bugged that old man for 9 YEARS to sell her to me

he finally did, and now she's almost done.

i used to have a ke30 2door sedan and thought it was so good.... until one day this beautiful little red ke15 rolls up at a set of lights and proceeded to blow my doors off. the ke30 just looked ugly from then on, by comparison.

i didn't know what it was at the time. a chance find of one in a wreckers a year or so later, let me in on what they were (the 1st of 4 ke1x sprinters i have seen in the wreckers in over 12 years). i lusted after them for years. took me about 5 years to track down the one i have now.

i now have a ke1x, coupe, wagon, and 2 sedans. i would never drive a later corolla, they have no real interest for me, except parts. LOL.

i think the thing that does it for me with the ke15/17 coupes is the european fiat like styling, but with japanese reliability. the ke16/18 are the nicest by far of all the corolla wagons. the ke10/11 sedans themselves are ok, cute, but nothing real exciting. they respond to simple mods, particularly engine mods, so much better than all the later (heavier) models.

of the ke2x, i like the ke25s (look very rx3 coupish, tough when done right), but don't think much of the sedans and wagons.

i was thinking for a next car, i would love a mk 1 escort, with a turboed 2l pinto.

Corollas are now my life and always will be....

and i am a big fan of the old skools!

i have always had a thing for being unlike the majority, and although it would be cool to get a silvia and bolt on all this cool stuff, why would you be any different from anyone in hot 4s cept a selected few?

my corolla is built how it is because i wanted to be different!

ke's are the toughest little cars and k's, the nicest little engines...

i would never step up to a newer car, i couldnt leave my old corollas, i would have to have an old ke20 with all the mod cons that i would need...

i definately agree with teddy - rust, squeeks, rattles, funny smells, broken stuff..... HOW COULD YOU LIVE WITHOUT IT??!!!

I always wanted to find poeple with the same passion as me, look what i have got myself into! :)
