Mr Hanky had bad tail lights with the lens trying to escape. I was hoping to find some nice second hand ones but it wasn't happening for me, so I bit the bullet and bought some new ones from one of the thai guys on ebay.

They are good, and come with the lamp holders which always appear to all be crap on australian cars.

The wiring connector one of them was all ass about, but I used the old as a comparison base and moved the terminals in the plug and it all works, no smoke getting out :P They look good!

In the last week I also replaced all the missing vacuum lines, and now the auto choke seems to work. Not sure it turns off though! Its spaghetti in there!!!

Last but not least, the drivers door lock was mangled from a slide hammer, and the door was a bit bent around the lock. Took a lock off a xt130 corona at centre rd cos I couldn't find a corolla one. Got it re-coded to suit Mr Hanky and fitted it. Works perfectly :y:

Next step, degrease the engine bay, a wash and RWC inspection!

I'm having the same issue with my reversing light lens and also the lamp holders.. how much the pair of newy's set you back?

$118 delivered, from seller bangkokparts

how much did it cost to get the lock recoded?

May need a new one for mine

$38.60 for the recoding which I thought was pretty hefty, but I hadn't shopped around. Lock was cheap as it was in a whole bundle of stuff I got from the wreckers for $10.

I'm actually waiting to get my mazda locks back from re-coding. I'm getting the whole lot done - Ignition barrel, 2 doors and boot and was quoted between $150-$200 with me doing the removal and re-fit. $300 if they had to do it.

I'll let you know how much it was when I pick them up which hopefully might be this arvo.

Good progress Mate, like you with my AE71 I need to replace my passenger door lock as its broken and wouldnt mind cleaning the interior with the method you did as yours looks exceptional. How badly dirty is the engine bay? where abouts are the areas that need to be cleaned, My old leaks were coming from under the dizzy...

Yes the sight of all those emission hoses would give anyone the shakes - even more if they have to reconnet them. Where abouts do live in the south east as I'm from Greensborough.

This is a very nice AE71 you have there mate, keep up the good work.

When you do your steam cleaning, make sure you rent the upholstery hand piece. I saw someone suggest on another forum to hire one for the day and get a few mates together to split the cost. Smart idea I reckon.

Engine bay isn't too bad and no real oil leaks to speak of, just needs a quick clean to make it presentable.

I am Oakleigh way.

I had an issue with those thai taillights. My brake light flashed when i put indicator on. So I replaced the still good wiring from my old one into it, works fine now. don't seem to seal very well, maybe a bit of silicone.

My left hand one did the same thing. I changed the wires around in the connector, using the original as a guide, and it was all good.

Ahh Mr Hanky you cost me so......

RWC Inspection found a bent auto gearbox cross member, a split rack boot and a taillight globe out (they were brand new farkers!!)

Off to Centre Rd tomorrow for a cross member... and now I have to figure out how to replace a rack boot!

Posted

steering rack boot will take a good 2 hours to do,

remove wheel

remove tie rod end (ball joint separator)

count how many turns when undoing, it will throw out your alignment if you don't.

(not sure if you have to undo the tie rod from the steering rack 70% sure you don't_

remove old boot

fit new boot and make sure they have some sort of clamp on them (cable ties work ok)

refit tie rod end with the according turns

use a new locknut for the tie rod nut and FT

refit wheel

rolla will roll again :)

Thanks Evan, thats a really good run down.

Sounds like its time to invest in a ball joint separator.

I got away with a big hammer on the ke35 but probably farked my ball joints in the process, so i should do it right this time eh :)
