love ke70 Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 how are the cars? my HKS 1g was in a workshop in ipswich, went for a 3 metre swim, along with a ke70 sedan shell, and a very well running 4k in a neat-enough ke70 panelvan. but its only money if i can save the HKS bits before the rust sets in the rest can be replaced. my feelings go out to everyone thats been properly effected in this situation, its unbelievable to think its 20 minutes away and all ive got is a squelchy backyard, like it has been for weeks :blinks: Quote
irokin Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Yea we're all good, just got isolated for a few days. There was at least one Medevac in the middle of the night here and a wedding party got flown out yesterday. Cleanups going remarkably fast here. I did a shift up at the emergency shelter and it was staggering the number of people bringing in food to donate. Even more staggering was that there were only a few people staying at the shelter. Everyone else had found accommodation with other people in the area, even complete strangers. I think one lady had taken in 12 people! IMO the peak up here was a fair bit higher than what all of the flood maps are showing. Higher than the BBCs flood flag maps so if that means it was higher than 74 here I'm not sure. Moggill Ferry on Monday: Moggill Ferry on Wednesday about 2 hours before the flood peak. Trev I can put together an computer for you if you need? Probably be something like a Core 2 Duo, I'll see what parts I've got. Should have a legit WinXP COA too. Quote

Good to see you are ok Ben, I went and seen corollaparts69 yesterday and he has lost 99.9% of his contents, the roof in one of the bedrooms was collapsed and there was thick mud everywhere (more then I had 200m up the road). Ben, this flood was nowhere near the 74 flood level, we got to 18.2m at mogill and the house across from us went under in 74, this time it was level with the floor boards, I am glad that it didn't peak another 2-3 meters like it was meant to. All I can say is that it stinks but oxley and rocklea are worse. Thanks for the offer Ben but I managed to grab my laptop when we did the evac, if you have a spare monitor and keyboard handy then I am sure that Joe (corollaparts69) would love to borrow them for a while, thankfully he grabbed his tower. Also anyone that is interested in helping Joe his number is: 0413960696 Edited January 15, 2011 by Trev Quote

Yea I'm just going by what the flood flag maps show and what the reality of the water level was. I think their data or modelling is just somewhat incorrect, around here anyway. In some places the flood extended 50m or so further than the maps show. Wivenhoe and SEQ waters exceptional management IMO really did make a signifigant difference. The afternoon of the 12th they closed Somersets gates completely and let it fill to full flood capacity and were releasing something like 640,000ML/day to try and keep Wivenhoes levels under control. Then on Wednesday morning they began reducing Wivenhoes releases ready for the flood waters coming out of Lockyer creek and Bremer down to 300,000ML and then somewhere around 200,000ML during the actual flood peak. I think at one stage early in the week Wivenhoe was filling at a rate of 1 million ML/day and releases were half of that so they did a good job of having enough flood storage capacity to minimise the impact of the Wivenhoe catchment on flood levels. I think without their efforts it would have rivaled 1893 levels. Thanks for the offer Ben but I managed to grab my laptop when we did the evac, if you have a spare monitor and keyboard handy then I am sure that Joe (corollaparts69) would love to borrow them for a while, thankfully he grabbed his tower. No worries. I've got a spare 17" LCD and no doubt I'll have a spare keyboard somewhere he's welcome to have. I should be able to drop it off after work on Monday if you let me know when/where. Quote
towe001 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 My dad (he's down in victoria) called just before to say that he's ok and that he's also been watching whats been happening up here. We went out today to donate some food, clothing etc and amber got talking to one of the girls who wound up, it looked, crying when she started talking about grantham. I think there's also been a record set on the forum as well - my post will make it 141 posts in a "off topic" thread that started off in the "KExx Corolla Discussion" section then moved into the "Automotive Discussion" section. I'm surprised it hasn't been moved to "Off Topic". Cheers to the mod's for letting it stay. Quote

Oh fvck mate, was it in the project shell....Can we help with the cleaning of them? Surely you can recoup some cash by wrecking out the shells at least, I know the trim will be rooted but panels, lights and maybe some mechanicals should be salvagable..... PM me if you need a hand mate...Most days are fine coz I work early mornings  Quote
tojo2 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 crying when she started talking about grantham. Understandable . Just saw a newsstory with some interviews from Grantham .. was hit hard by the looks of it. Natures forces can be scary. Kind of stuff that puts things in perspective. Feel with you guys and gals Quote

PM me if you need a hand mate...Most days are fine coz I work early mornings  it was in the workshop, i couldnt get the motor out on saturday when i went there as there were too many cars in the way, and the mechanic wasnt there. both the shells are just about ruins, they had been outside in the open for several months, with sides cut out of them etc, i was a bit pissed to discover the seats and everything were still in the good one, the good seats that is, alternators, flywheels etc, but that doesnt matter. they have apparently drained the motors and flushed them with diesel, but i still wanna get it home, clean the crank and the cams and does the rest with a can of wd40, maybe ill be able to get it on monday. thanks for your offer of helping, but as you said, its just gonna be a salvage job on the shells and then getting rid of them, not much more i can do :) hopefully ill get some form of insurance pay out, but we are not holding our breathe at the moment Quote
Trev Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I went out and got some mobile interwebs so I can look for housing so I will only post a couple of pics. was coming home from a mates house last night and bumped in to trev on the ipswich highway heading from goodna to darra and so i pulled over at progress road and had a good old chat with him was good to have a few laughs he showed me a really good pic that you people will see when he can upload it funny as Here is the pic, someone thought that optus was garbage... My bike and parts: My bike should be ok, just gotta clean all the oil/water mix out and hopefully the diesel does the job, I am just a bit worried about the clutch. The 4age that is going into the sedan, I think I will re build it though but I put diesel in it as an anti rust agent. Quote
