Spencer[RL]
Normally 4 inlets/outlets on a surge tank . Top - over flow Mid top - return from rail Mid low - from tank Bottom - To rail With Big pump feeding Surge tank, and small pump feeing to rail. Also going to need fuel filter before Big pump and before Small pump Edited January 18, 2012 by Spencer
B.L.Z.BUB
Sooo, basically a fishtank? Why couldnt your return go to the fuel tank? Or is that just optional Already have a fuel filter before pump under car and one in the engine bay. B.L.Z.BUB
It can , Unnecessarily plumbing tho Not if you are running original fuel lines. All id have to do is plug the return on the surge tank, yeah? Find the hose to the pump i have and run it to the second pump to the surge run a new one fro surge to the Walbro and an overflow return. Seems pretty basic.
Ella
part of the way the surge tank works hinges on that return at the top of the surge tank reed.
B.L.Z.BUB
Why, does it keep the whole fuel system at a constant pressure? That makes sense
Ella
yes and any air that gets in the tank is pushed back out into the return to the tank as its at the top

oh what a nissan feeling!
You can return to either, the only probelem is that the lift pump has to be much larger if you return to the tank, as it literally has to supply more than the pressure pump. If you return to the surge tank your lift pump can be quite small, as it only has to supply slightly more fuel than your car is actually using at any given time. The advantage to returning to your tank is a supply of cooler fuel, as it has not been circulated to your engine and through your fuel rail 20 times while waiting to be used. Although this is hardly relevent in most situations. Either way you still need an overflow from your surge tank back to the fuel tank.
